Abstract: This paper provides a literature analysis of digital dark nudging instances. Specifically, the literature analysis identified 14 relevant publications from various research disciplines. As a result, we systematically categorized the publications into seven instances of digital dark nudging (e.g., false expectations) within five application domains (e.g., e-commerce). Moreover, our results suggest that digital dark nudging leads the various adverse effects for individuals, such as monetary losses. We contribute to existing research by providing an overview of digital dark nudging research. Our findings indicate the need to investigate the long-term consequences of digital dark nudging. Furthermore, we pinpoint the need for clear differentiators between regular digital nudging and digital dark nudging, which is desperately needed to ensure to positive nature of digital nudging. Abstract: To achieve organizational goals and remain competitive, evaluating, selecting, and managing IT projects and proposals to build a value-driven portfolio is a critical activity. IT project portfolio management (ITPPM) tools assist these portfolio-related activities, support strategic decision-makers, and help complete more IT projects successfully. Despite existing research on this topic, knowledge about the characteristics and design elements of ITPPM tools is still limited. We develop a taxonomy based on scientific literature and 60 real-word ITPPM tools with four perspectives, 20 dimensions, and 51 characteristics. Subsequently, we perform a cluster analysis and identify five ITPPM tool archetypes. Our results and findings contribute to the knowledge base and integrate scientific and practical knowledge to build the basis for further research on ITPPM tools. Further, we structure the ITPPM tool market, guide practitioners in selecting an appropriate ITPPM tool and support the development of new solutions or develop existing ones further. Collapse

Abstract: To sustain competitive advantage in dynamic business environments, organizations have to constantly adapt, innovate, and recombine their business models. As some configurations of business model design options are more successful than others, it is crucial to have a holistic understanding of the (current) solution space of those options and their dependencies. To be aware of and manage the set of possible design options, one can rely on classification tools, including taxonomies, typologies, and classification schemes. Given the availability of several tool types, different underlying assumptions for each type need to be considered when designing and applying a tool. Following a descriptive literature review approach, this paper structures the diverse body of classification research by presenting a repository of tools and deriving an analytical grid to disclose the similarities and differences between selected tool types. Thereby, this paper (1) raises awareness for the plurality of tools and their underpinning concepts, (2) provides a status quo overview across tool types, and (3) derives design-relevant knowledge for the tools, points to current challenges, and paves the ground for future research on the building, evaluation, and use of this class of tools. Abstract: Organizations adapt their business models (BM) frequently to remain competitive. One reason for this is the digitalization of products and services. A change in strategy often brings along an adaption of the BM or a complete business model innovation (BMI). In this context, software tools can support users in the presentation and analysis of their BM by providing methodological knowledge. The assessment of a software tool is influenced by different orientations and functionalities, e.g., for pure BM representation or simulation. This contribution provides a procedure for systematically assessing BMI tools and offers an overview of existing BM tools as well as their support for BMI and a related transformation process. The results show that early phases of BMI are well supported, while later phases are hardly represented. A possible reason for this lies in the complexity of later BMI phases. First steps towards supporting later phases through software are discussed. Collapse

Abstract: In the last decade, a diverse array of information systems (IS) has emerged to help organisations achieve their performance goals. As a result, global spending on information technology (IT) has increased manifold. These developments have reopened the fundamental question of how IS success is shaped at the organisational level. Scholars and practitioners would also like to understand if, compared to the individual level, IS success patterns differ at the organisational level. The last meta-analysis of IS success was conducted nearly a decade ago and it could not examine IS success at the organisational level. There is also a need to gain a deeper understanding of key contingencies influencing success at the organisational level. Based on a comprehensive meta-analysis of research studies conducted in the last decade, we not only report how IS success patterns are shaped at the organisational level but also show how these patterns compare to success configurations at the individual level. Additionally, we conduct detailed multi-level meta-analyses of system complexity and user type as two key contingencies influencing success at both individual as well as organisational levels. Findings of our moderation analyses reveal distinct constructions of IS success across both levels. Collapse

Abstract: Researchers and practitioners often face challenges in structuring larger design projects and, therefore, struggle to capture, discuss, and reflect on essential components that should be considered. These first steps are, however, of great importance because decisions such as in terms of selecting an underpinning (kernel) theory, following certain development approaches, or specifying knowledge sources impact the resulting design solution. To provide a frame for developing one of the dominant forms of prescriptive knowledge in information systems (IS), we present the ‘Principle Constructor’ that seeks to support the iterative endeavor of formulating design principles. This so-called visual inquiry tool is grounded in previous research on design knowledge and an empirical analysis of IS articles that present principles, built according to available guidance for this class of tools, and evaluated through several workshops. Abstract: IT value research has witnessed growing interest in the use of joint IT resources and capabilities following recent shifts in market competition from the firm to the network level. Despite research efforts in this domain, there remain substantial inconsistencies in the IT value cocreation literature regarding the effect of interorganizational IT on business value and the role of methodological and contextual factors. Drawing on the resource-based view and the relational view of the firm, we conducted a meta-analysis to synthesize and integrate the body of knowledge of IT-based value cocreation. Our analysis of 80 studies, encompassing 21,843 observations, highlights the value-generating effect of four interorganizational IT capabilities: IT-based relation-specific assets, IT-based knowledge sharing, IT-based complementary capabilities, and IT-based governance. Insights from our preliminary meta-analysis reveal that contradictory findings are driven by the conceptualization of IT variables as interorganizational IT resources. A further moderator meta-analysis explains divergent empirical findings in the literature. We find that the use of relational-level value and perceptual measures, use of single respondents, and the context of developing countries and supply chain and networked interdependencies result in larger estimates of business value. In contrast, the use of network-level, firm-level, and objective measures; use of matched-pair approaches; and the context of developed countries and pooled interdependencies result in smaller estimates. Overall, this paper provides clarity and structure to the current understanding of the research field by providing explanations for inconsistent findings as well as a foundation for future research and theory development. Abstract: IT/IS strategy is of central importance to practice and many well-developed lines of research have contributed to our understanding of IT/IS strategy. However, throughout the last decade, digitalization has fundamentally transformed the business world and put into question traditional strategy wisdom. As information technologies are the driver of this digital transformation, we can expect an even more fundamental change in IT/IS strategy thinking. To verify this expectation, we undertook an in-depth, extensive review of the academic literature on this topic. Our review, which is time-framed to the years 2008–2018, distils five different directions in the development of IT/IS strategy research. It also identifies a shift in how IT/IS strategy is defined and investigated over this period. Moreover, we present an emerging debate on how digitalization challenges traditional IT/IS strategy wisdom. As this debate is still in its infancy, we take it further by entering into the larger discussion on digitalization, including digital innovation, digital ecosystems, and digital transformation. Building on this, we derive at deeper insights on how IT/IS strategy could, should, or should better not be understood in the digital age. Collapse

Digital Twins are virtual representations of physical objects and they can be connected with their physical counterparts. Through this connection, Digital Twins contribute to the convergence of the real and the virtual world. While existing literature reviews focus strongly on the manufacturing industry, this paper analyzes Digital Twin applications across industries. Based on a systematic literature review, this paper examines 87 Digital Twin applications and proposes a classification scheme with six dimensions to describe the applications identified.
