Abstract: With the increasing digitalization of health data, patients need to make informed decisions about the online sharing of their protected health information. This necessitates a robust technical infrastructure that enables patients to self-manage consent and the trusted exchange of this information across sharing entities. Unfortu­ nately, current health information exchange systems in the U.S. are limited in both these regards. While there is recent work on digital patient consent management, there is limited work that provides effective solutions for patient self-management of consent. Further, interoperability issues in the way health information exchanges are currently architected and differences in regulations across localities exacerbate the challenges of consent man­ agement. In this research, we survey potential patients' willingness to self-manage healthcare-related consent. Having established the desire for consent self-management, we propose a solution that enables the seamless sharing of patient consent across different healthcare providers and health information exchanges. Specifically, we use a rigorous design science approach to create a blockchain-based, self-managed patient consent system and we evaluate the design through an instantiated prototype. The results of our study should be useful to researchers in healthcare information management as well as to practitioners designing consent management systems. Our research contributes to design science research with an innovative, rigorously evaluated, design principles-based artifact that addresses a critical problem of sharing protected health information. Abstract: This research contributes to the knowledge of how Information Systems (IS) researchers can iteratively intervene with practitioners to co-create instructional programs with a framework designed for fast-paced, rapidly changing IS fields such as cybersecurity. We demonstrate how complex fields, such as cybersecurity, have the need for a skilled workforce that continues to rapidly outpace supply from universities. IS researchers partnering with practitioners can use this research as an exemplar of a method to design, build, and evaluate these innovative co-curricular IS programs. Moreover, we find these co-curricular IS programs are essential to upskilling students, integrating training on the latest tools, systems, and processes in these rapidly evolving disciplines. Abstract: The healthcare industry is currently going through a digital transformation, and the implementation of blockchain technology has emerged as a promising solution to overcome many of the difficulties faced by healthcare financing systems. This research paper presents a systematic review of the existing literature to recognize the issues that healthcare financing systems are currently facing and how they can be addressed through blockchain solutions. The review also identifies potential solutions and frameworks proposed for the implementation of blockchain solutions. The study has revealed that the combination of blockchain technology and machine learning has high potential in developing a smooth healthcare financing system that is secure, accessible, and has data integrity. The use of blockchain can provide a secure and transparent platform for storing and sharing healthcare data, leading to improved accuracy and efficiency of healthcare financing systems. By integrating blockchain 3.0 with healthcare 4.0 processes and technologies, a real-time and reliable blockchain-based healthcare system for financing can be developed that is highly secure, transparent, and can execute transactions on any IoT-enabled device. The study has revealed that the Ethereum blockchain network is the most suitable platform to implement a distributed ledger to address the challenges faced by healthcare financing systems. This is due to the various applications of the platform already being used within remote medical healthcare operations and other healthcare processes as found in the literature. The study's findings are expected to contribute to the ongoing discussion on the digital transformation of the healthcare sector through emerging technologies. Collapse

Abstract: Data science is widely perceived as an attractive, lucrative, and prestigious emerging occupation. Research so far has focused on understanding data scientists' practices and identity work associated with establishing and legitimizing this new occupation. This work, however, is not sufficient to explain a phenomenon we observed whereby professionals rejected the opportunity to adopt this new occupational identity. To understand why professionals may not want to be labeled data scientists, we analyzed 43 interviews with data professionals at an educational measurement company in the U.S. Despite a clear steer from management towards the data science label, many interviewees stuck to their established professional identities. In our preliminary findings, we use the literature on identity conflict as a lens to make sense of our observations. By identifying three types of conflicts: 1) task conflict, 2) role conflict, 3) tool conflict, we begin to explain what turns professionals away from data science. Collapse

Abstract: By 2021, Hortilux, a Dutch horticultural grow light company, offered multiple digital services in its low-code-based HortiSense IoT platform. HortiSense was developed to fulfill the company's mission of moving from a product-centric to a service-centric solution provider. Based on interviews with IT and non-IT employees, the case explores an example of a company using low-code development beyond simple task automation and illustrates the company's journey in bringing its IoT platform to market quickly despite a technical talent deficit. Abstract: To tackle climate change in the digital economy, there has been increasing attention to the role of information technology (IT) investment in decoupling economic growth from greenhouse gas emissions, or reducing carbon intensity. This research examines the impact of cloud computing on carbon intensity and further scrutinizes how the advent of cloud computing has altered the relationship between IT capital and carbon intensity. We combine data on IT capital stock for 51 countries during 1995-2014 with a natural experiment involving the staggered launches of cloud data centers across countries. Our preliminary findings suggest that cloud on-ramps availability is positively associated with carbon intensity, whereas it negatively moderates the impact of IT capital on carbon intensity. Taken together, our preliminary evidence implies that the environmental impact of cloud computing may not be as adverse as conjectured if we factor in its indirect effect on making overall IT capital greener. Abstract: Demand for food delivery services has grown significantly in recent years and, in particular, during the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting stay-at-home orders. From a business perspective, food delivery platforms work as intermediaries by mediating interactions among customers, restaurants, and delivery workers. This paper suggests that blockchain technology coupled with smart contracts can help remove centralized food delivery platforms by enabling peer-to-peer interactions among stakeholders. Following the design science research framework, we first conducted interviews with some relevant stakeholders. We use the obtained responses to design requirements related to cost reduction, transparency, and privacy. We thereafter suggest three design principles to tackle the design requirements. Next, we design and instantiate our artifact based on a decentralized business process model and blockchain technology. Finally, we evaluate our solution in terms of its potential for cost reduction and handling conflicts. Collapse

Abstract: This paper develops a typology of digital offerings to shed light on the distinct characteristics of this emerging digital phenomenon. Drawing on Roman contract law, the typology focuses on digital rights offered (selling, leasing, partnering, and agencing) and digital assets involved (tangible and intangible). These two dimensions lead to eight archetypes that we illustrate through the diverse Amazon portfolio of digital offerings. The typology sets out to shape the scholarly discourse around digital offering research and practice and to provide a foundation from which the characteristics and mechanisms of digital offering value appropriation can be further understood and operationalized. Ultimately, by rejecting the traditional service vs. product distinction and instead accounting for offering variations based on the intrinsic merits of digital offerings, we are embracing a digital terminology rather than attempting to transfer the terminology of the physical world to the digital realm. Abstract: Customers in cloud spot market choose from a set of computing resources (spot instances) some of which are same along one or more of the dimensions of hardware configuration, hardware capacity, software, and location (or zones within the same region). While prior research in IS has shown that cloud market consumers do not substitute identical spot instances across distant locations or regions due to costs associated with latency, there is a paucity of research examining spot price dynamics of similar instances which are same along only some of the dimensions (or characteristics) within a region. Using the economic theory of substitution in production and consumption as our theoretical lens, our empirical analysis finds evidence that consumers substitute similar computing resources in the spot market. Further, we find that while hardware configuration similarity between two instances is positively related to spot instance substitution, this substitution effect along hardware config­ uration is moderated by similarity along hardware capacity and location (zone). Our work contributes to the literature on cloud spot market by providing empirical evidence of the substitution effect among similar spot resources within a region, and thus help in understanding the choices of consumers in this market. We conclude by discussing how practitioners can leverage these findings in the procurement of computing resources from cloud spot market. Collapse
