Abstract: Previous research has suggested that unlearning is not linked to performance improvements in a team setting. Further, unlearning may have deleterious effects on performance outcomes because when it happens, teams are likely to lose the way they perform tasks and the reasons for their operational existence. In contrast, this study predicts that teams can conduct exploitative and exploratory activities in a balanced manner predicated on unlearning practices to improve new product development (NPD) performance. We hypothesized that while unlearning allows NPD teams to balance exploitative and exploratory learning activities, simultaneous yet balanced exploitation and exploration at high levels, namely innovation ambidexterity, links unlearning practices to NPD performance. This occurs by providing task-relevant knowledge for the replacement of outdated routines and beliefs during NPD processes. Data were collected from 198 NPD teams (i.e., 464 individual participants). The examination of ordinary least squares regression-based path analyses revealed that innovation ambidexterity mediates the relationship of unlearning with NPD performance, operationalized as product development speed, cost, and product success. Overall, this study shows that the unlearning-performance relationship occurs through simultaneous exploitative and exploratory learning activities in a balanced manner. Collapse

Abstract: We rely on socioanalytic theory to explore the relationship of the crowd’s inferred attributions to an initiator’s personality and crowdfunding performance. On the basis of videometric measuring of the perceived personality of project initiators in 673 rewardbased crowdfunding campaigns, we provide empirical support for this coherence: crowds allocate resources guided by their judgements of an initiator’s extraversion, openness, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and emotional stability. Our work suggests that the crowds’ resource allocation behavior is guided by decision biases according to their perceptions of a person’s personality, rather than race or gender, which constrain or enable crowdfunding performance. Abstract: The growth of cities’ population increased the interest in the opportunities and challenges that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) have on carbon footprint reduction, which fosters their environmental sustainability. Using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), six ICT-related variables from European Union (EU) cities were combined into a single two-dimensional ICT index. Then, through cluster analysis, cities were clustered into four groups based on the ICT index and Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Using ICT as an indicator of smartness and CO2 emissions as an indicator of sustainability, we show that it is possible for a city to be smart but not sustainable and vice versa. Results also indicate that there is a gap between cities in northern Europe, which are the top performers in both categories, and cities in south-eastern Europe, which do not perform as well. The need for a common strategy for achieving integrated smart, sustainable and inclusive growth at a European level is demonstrated. Collapse

Abstract: This study seeks to investigate the effectiveness of Cloud Computing Utilization (CCU) in the mitigation of informational and marketing barriers for SMEs from the Emerging Market-Countries (EM-SMEs). A quantitativeresearch methodology was applied to collect data by using self-administered questionnaires from top managers of 227 SMEs based in Iran and Turkey. The study contributes theoretically to both small business and international business literature by developing a new classification of the internationalization barriers that EM-SMEs face, and proposing a series of cloud computing (CC) solutions for mitigating these barriers, resulting in the creation and testing of a new model. The empirical findings confirm that CCU can help EM-SMEs to mitigate a series of informational and marketing barriers. The key practical contributions of the study offer insights to both EM-SMEs and Cloud-Service-Providers (CSPs) on the extent to which CCU is effective in mitigating the internationalization barriers faced by EM-SMEs. However, we highlight the substantial differences between the domains and explore how IT-enabled innovation shapes and is shaped within state government. Analyzing state-level IT governance data using crisp-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis, we uncover that low state attainment is a catalyst for IT-enabled innovation. Abstract: This study addresses two questions: (1) which Information Technology (IT) project manager competencies influence team commitment? and (2) how much these competencies impact team commitment? The main objective is to propose and evaluate a measuring instrument to identify the IT project manager competencies that are necessary to build and sustain team commitment in IT projects. We adopted mixed methods as the research methodology. Firstly, we did an exploratory and qualitative research. Then, we did a quantitative research. An academic contribution is the new scale designed to identify competencies that are more relevant to develop team commitment. Besides that, the research offers a conceptual model that can be used in future studies. This research also presents pertinent implications to the practice of project management in IT settings. For instance, organizations can use the measuring instrument to evaluate project managers, to assess organizational climate or to structure training programs for their employees. Collapse

Abstract: User–website interactions in service contexts create opportunities for positive online experiences that can foster brand equity, nurture trust, and eventually lead to long-term relationship building. The purpose of this study is to examine the concepts of “online customer experiences” and “flow” and their mediating roles in influencing customers’ loyalty to a hotel booking website. To achieve this goal, a theoretical model was developed, which suggests that online flow in services includes both hedonic and utilitarian features. According to the study results, hedonic and utilitarian features affect the flow experience positively. The study results indicate that hedonic features have a stronger effect on the flow experience compared with utilitarian features. The findings imply that when customers experience flow in online hotel booking services, they develop a sense of trust toward the website. Positive experiences with the website enhance the brand equity. These findings can help researchers and service providers understand the flow concept in online hotel booking services. Collapse

Abstract: The retention of newcomers is of vital relevance for initiatives developing Free Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS). Based on previous FLOSS research which repeatedly highlights the amount of knowledge developers build in the beginning of their project participation for their continuance and experiences from the organizational domain, we evaluate the use of mentoring as an appropriate knowledge transfer and retention strategy for FLOSS projects. Combining FLOSS and organizational literature, we develop our research model and hypothesize that (i) mentoring facilitates novices in their learning, which, in turn, increases their retention (ii) and (iii) that mentoring has direct effects on protégés’ continued participation. The evaluation of 91 newcomers to the KDE project supports our hypotheses and finds a strong direct and indirect association between mentoring and novices’ project retention. On the one hand our analysis shows that mentoring significantly increases novices’ achieved level of knowledge after their ramp up period which, in turn, enlarges their project permanence. On the other hand, we find evidence that there is also a strong and significant direct association between mentoring and protégés’ retention behaviour, which could be the result of the strong interpersonal relationship which is formed between mentors and protégés. Abstract: Online product presentation constitutes a key challenge for marketers and designers who want to satisfy consumers’ needs. Visual and textual product information affect recognition and knowledge about the product. This research examines whether the presence (vs absence) of a product image and textual information in a schematic mode (vs paragraph mode) affect users’ recall and perceptions of the quality of the electronic products’ information. The moderating role of user's familiarity with the website and product also may play a role; the evolution of these variables likely will determine trends in e-commerce research. The results show that a schematic display of textual information improves perceptions of information quality. When a picture of the product appears together with textual information, users remember more information and consider it easier to remember if that information appears schematically. However, without a product picture, users allocate more resources to process paragraph information and therefore recall more information and perceive it as easier to recall. The degrees of familiarity also have important directional effects on these relationships. Collapse
