Abstract: This paper examines how firms have transformed and executed IT-enabled remote work initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic. After examining archival data on a sample of 100 firms in Spain, we discover three types of IT-enabled remote work firm’s strategies: leader, agile, and survival. Leader companies have a competitive advantage over agile companies, which in turn have a competitive advantage over survival organizations. We find that firm size was crucial to executing remote work firm’s initiatives as a leader or survival. The industry significantly affected the implementation of remote work firm’s initiatives during the three pivotal periods in the telecommunications industry. Collapse

Abstract: This study delves into the potential influence of Algorithmic Personnel Management (APM)-based systems on optimizing personnel management (PM) processes and their subsequent impact on personnel slack. Employing a multi-case study analysis, we probe the capabilities afforded by APM-based systems, with a keen focus on their potential effects on PM processes, personnel slack, and organizational outcomes. Our exploration intimates the possibility of APM-based systems augmenting talent acquisition, talent management, and performance management processes, aligning employee competencies with organizational opportunities, and fostering adaptability amidst tumultuous business landscapes. Furthermore, the study conjectures the metamorphosis of conventional personnel managerial roles within the APM-based systems context, accentuating the necessity for personnel managers to acclimate to strategic and analytical duties. Abstract: Researchers have a growing concern about assessing sustainability performance in various industries, including healthcare. However, there is no consensus on evaluating the sustainability of healthcare systems, especially regarding the social pillar. Therefore, this paper aims to develop a conceptual and structured framework that can measure the level of social sustainability of healthcare systems. Using a novel approach SSP-COPRAS, based on The Complex Proportional Assessment method, the work offers new insight into the comprehensive assessment of core dimensions of social sustainability (equity, quality, responsiveness, financial coverage, adaptability) in healthcare systems. The proposed approach can also guide crossnational comparisons, supporting health policy leaders in decision-making. The research findings reveal that the most socially sustainable systems are those in Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and France. On the contrary, the most unsustainable systems are those located in central and eastern European countries (Poland, Hungary, Latvia). Collapse

Abstract: Contact tracing has been a main topic of conversation in the COVID-19 pandemic. While implementation of app-based contact tracing can be beneficial, it raises concerns of privacy and confidentiality. To better understand how these issues were addressed, a qualitative study was conducted which analyzes the current status of contact tracing apps from Iceland, Italy, Germany, India, Singapore, Japan, and four states within the United States. The comparisons made amongst the contact tracing apps will be surveyed across numerous criteria. The results show contact tracing apps are able to assist in the COVID-19 caseloads by determining self-isolation periods. Future developments can change these apps into a tool for returning to normalcy that may require more user information disclosure, but limited protections of privacy and confidentiality issues have not been addressed at a worldwide level. Abstract: Some cities in the United States experience gaps when it comes to income inequality. Entrepreneurs, managers, etc. can take advantage of information technologies (IT), while those in the middle and the bottom see fewer benefits. San Francisco is a perfect example of this dichotomy. Meanwhile, some countries, such as Iceland, are more capable of using the diffusion of Internet infrastructure to reduce income inequality, which contributes to the wellbeing of its citizens. This paper explores the relationship between the diffusion of IT infrastructure and income inequality through Rogers’s Diffusion of Innovations Theory. Using quantitative data through hierarchical regression, the empirical results show this theory’s tenets do not necessarily hold, because there is a significant negative relationship between infrastructure diffusion and income inequality growth. This paper contributes to research by expanding economic and sociology work to the IS domain, and provides suggestions for practice, such as more focused IT infrastructure investments. Collapse

Abstract: Telemedicine innovation is important for accelerating the digital transformation of the health care sector. However, telemedicine is a discontinuous digital innovation, and incumbent health care organizations are lagging in its adoption. We combine research on IT innovation adoption and discontinuous innovation to study the relative role of two drivers of discontinuous innovation adoption: digital complementary assets and the regulatory environment. Our findings from 1,753 acute care hospitals across 30 European countries suggest that digital complementary assets have a stronger effect on telemedicine innovation adoption than the regulatory framework. In addition, we observe application- and business model-specific differences. Overall, our findings add the role of organizational versus regulatory drivers of discontinuous innovation adoption to information systems research, emphasize the importance of digital complementary assets for the adoption of discontinuous innovation by incumbent organizations, and provide new insights into how the diffusion of telemedicine innovation can be accelerated. Abstract: As a result of the climate change the situation in Arctic area leads to several important consequences. On the one hand, fossil fuels can be exploited much easier than before. On the other hand, their excavation leads to serious potential threats to fishing by changing natural habitats which in turn creates serious damage to the countries’ economies. Another set of problems arises due to the extension of navigable season for shipping routes. Thus, there are already discussions on how should resources be allocated among countries. In Aleskerov and Victorova (An analysis of potential conflict zones in the Arctic Region, HSE Publishing House, Moscow, 2015) a model was presented analyzing preferences of the countries interested in natural resources and revealing potential conflicts among them. We present several areas allocation models based on different preferences over resources among interested countries. As a result, we constructed several allocations where areas are assigned to countries with respect to the distance or the total interest, or according to the procedure which is counterpart of the Adjusted Winner procedure. We consider this work as an attempt to help decision-making authorities in their complex work on adjusting preferences and conducting negotiations in the Arctic zone. We would like to emphasize that these models can be easily extended to larger number of parameters, to the case when some areas for some reasons should be excluded from consideration, to the case with ‘weighted’ preferences with respect to some parameters. And we strongly believe that such models and evaluations based on them can be helpful for the process of corresponding decision making. Collapse
