Abstract: The emergence of low-code/no-code (LCNC) platform technologies and the resulting increase in citizen development programs are facilitating the democratization of the design, development, and deployment of digital solutions. Citizen developers, non-technical employees who leverage LCNC platforms, are at the heart of this trend. While many firms perceive LCNC and citizen development as a crucial component of their digital transformation strategy, little is known about the evolving roles in this field or the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA). To address this knowledge gap, we processed 113,106 job postings published on Indeed.com. Our topic modeling methodology identified 34 KSA topics and classified them into the three domains platform, business, and technology. We contribute to research by empirically demonstrating which competencies are required to successfully work in the LCNC field. Our findings can guide individual professionals and organizations alike. Abstract: This paper used web scraping and data mining to analyze 831 health informatics job advertisements on indeed.com. Results showed that 87% of jobs explicitly required a college degree in a related field, 41% of jobs preferred a graduate degree, while 29% preferred or required professional certification. The analysis showed that preferred skills were analytics problem solving, communication skills, oral communication, interpersonal skills, project management, statistics, and critical thinking. The analysis also showed that college degrees, certifications, and the above-mentioned skill set are in high demand for working in the field of health informatics, especially in states with large populations and strong economies. Our results inform curriculum development of health informatics programs in higher education, which helps map knowledge units across the curricula to bridge the skills gap and meet employers' expectations. At the same time, the results help job seekers familiarize themselves with what employers seek in a successful candidate. Collapse

Abstract: Higher education professional programs must respond efficiently to evolving Management Information System (MIS)/ Information System (IS) industry needs. The purpose of the study is to identify minimum educational attainment requirements, minimum work experience requirements, and platform and tool preferences as a first step in helping institutions decide whether or not the time is appropriate to begin emphasizing RPA in the curriculum. The study suggests, based on the available data, that work experience requirement and degree attainment requirements have declined between 2019 and 2021 suggesting that the skills requirement is getting closer to when a student might graduate. Abstract: Data analysis is becoming an increasingly critical activity in today's organizations as companies collect more data and rely on data analysis to drive decision-making. To meet this need, many universities now offer data analytics programs to train entry-level data analysts. However, the field is changing rapidly, representing a challenge to academics determining which skills and software platforms to include in a data analytics curriculum. Information systems researchers have investigated this problem, but gaps remain in our knowledge. Specifically, it is unclear how important different technical skills and tools are to managers hiring entry-level data analysts and what is expected of graduates of university data analytics programs. In this emergent research forum paper, we review the existing research on data analyst skillsets and outline a plan to bring the field up-to-date by building on the extant literature with a new focus not just on frequency of skills listed in job postings but also on their importance to today's organizations. This work will contribute valuable findings to IS scholars developing data analytics curriculum, entry-level data analysts competing on the job market, and hiring managers staying up to date on the field's demands. Abstract: Recent scholarship has established several ways in which external hiring—versus filling a role with a comparable internal candidate—is detrimental to firms. Yet, organizational learning theory suggests that external hires benefit firms: by importing knowledge that is unavailable or obscured to insiders and applying it toward experimentation and risky recombination. Accordingly and consistent with studies of learning by hiring and innovation, we predict that external hires are at greater risk of intrapreneurship than internal hires. We test this prediction via a study of product managers in large technology companies. We use machine learning to operationalize intrapreneurship by comparing product manager job descriptions with the founding statements of venture-backed technology entrepreneurs. Our research design employs coarsened exact matching to balance pretreatment covariates between product managers who arrived at their roles internally versus externally. The results of our analysis indicate that externally hired product managers are substantially more intrapreneurial than observably equivalent internal hires. However, we also find that intrapreneurial product managers have a higher turnover rate, an effect that is primarily driven by external hires. This suggests that hiring for intrapreneurship may be a difficult strategy to sustain. Abstract: An important aspect of human resource management is understanding employees’ values, motivations, and factors of satisfaction. Relationships between employee satisfaction, values, positivity and negativity, employee retention, and industry allow human resource managers to make decisions on employee recruitment techniques and budgets, employee retention efforts, and even company image initiatives. Traditional methods for identi­ fying employee values, job satisfaction, and linkages to important company outcomes are through employee entrance/exit surveys, annual evaluations, and informal interactions. In recent years, companies and researchers have begun to take advantage of the increasing ubiquity of online reviews, including unstructured text responses. In this paper we explore 682,176 employee reviews of Fortune 50 companies from Indeed.com using Structural Topic Modeling (STM) to identify salient aspects in employee reviews and automatically infer latent topics that are salient factors related to employee satisfaction. We compare these topics with the five facets of the Job Descriptive Index (JDI) that are traditionally used to measure job satisfaction among human resource experts. We conduct further analysis comparing comments of current vs. former employees. Results suggests that management may be an important salient factor in employee satisfaction and turnover, as it is consistently mentioned by current and former employees in both positive and the negative comments. Similarly, monetary benefits are mentioned as a negative by former employees, but as a positive for current employees. Furthermore, we examine topic differences by industry sector and find that retail employees frequently mention Pay and Benefits and Length of Breaks, whereas technology sector employees were more concerned with Work-Life Balance. Our results can be used to support company behavioral management decision makers to conceive and evaluate initiatives intended to enhance employee satisfaction. Furthermore, our techniques, including the visualization of topic composition and quality, are generalizable to any setting that uses topic discovery from unstructured text, such as customer reviews, social media posts, and critic reviews, especially when comparing topics across entities. Abstract: The growing demand for business intelligence & analytics (BI&A) practitioners has been recognized in higher education. In the past decade, over 130 business analytical academic programs have been launched. To the best of our knowledge, no research has examined whether the current business analytics curriculum design fully fits the industry demand. To answer this question, we take the initial steps of identifying a common set of skills that is frequently required across different business analytics job positions. Further, we reviewed undergraduate business analytics/data science curricula at 29 universities across the U.S. Our results show that companies expect a balanced set of soft and technical skills for entry level BI&A job positions. In terms of the gap between the academic curriculum and skills in demand, Python, Microsoft's Excel, communication, and collaboration skills are underdeveloped in most academic curricula. This study assesses text analytics techniques for this problem by utilizing Indeed.com employee reviews. These techniques provide value to human resources management by rapidly prioritizing documents. We compare general sentiment analyses with dictionaries curated for this domain, and the domain-specific approaches offer superior prediction of employee dissatisfaction.
