Abstract: Whether entrepreneurship generates economic growth depends on the institutional environment due to its impact on the mix of productive and unproductive entrepreneurship in the economy. The incentive structure embedded in each society affects whether talented people become entrepreneurs and potentially, the extent to which they engage in more productive forms of entrepreneurship. We examine how trust in institutions affects the entrepreneurial intentions of potentially productive entrepreneurs. We utilize the unique event surrounding the impeachment of South Korea’s previous president. The event improved people’s trust in the government because it was ultimately the people’s protests and demands that led to the impeachment of the president for influence peddling and extracting personal rents from businesses. By surveying the same individuals before and after the impeachment ruling, we identify people’s changes in trust in government and various institutions. We find that increased trust in institutions increases one’s intent to start a business within five years. Moreover, we show that the relationship between trust in institutions and entrepreneurial intention is significantly stronger for engineering majors from top universities. Abstract: Recent developments in big data technologies are revolutionizing the field of healthcare predictive analytics (HPA), enabling researchers to explore challenging problems using complex prediction models. Nevertheless, healthcare practitioners are reluctant to adopt those models as they are less transparent and accountable due to their black-box structure. We believe that instance-level, or local, explanations enhance patient safety and foster trust by enabling patient-level interpretations and medical knowledge discovery. Therefore, we propose the RObust Local EXplanations (ROLEX) method to develop robust, instance-level explanations for HPA models in this study. ROLEX adapts state-of-the-art methods and ameliorates their shortcomings in explaining individual-level predictions made by black-box machine learning models. Our analysis with a large real-world dataset related to a prevalent medical condition called fragility fracture and two publicly available healthcare datasets reveals that ROLEX outperforms widely accepted benchmark methods in terms of local faithfulness of explanations. In addition, ROLEX is more robust since it does not rely on extensive hyperparameter tuning or heuristic algorithms. Explanations generated by ROLEX, along with the prototype user interface presented in this study, have the potential to promote personalized care and precision medicine by providing patient-level interpretations and novel insights. Abstract: This study contributes to the information systems literature on mobile health interventions and omnichannel management by examining the relative effectiveness of mobile and offline channels in facilitating personal weight management. Drawing on the social cognitive theory of self-regulation, our empirical analysis utilizes a system generalized method of moments approach applied to panel data on customers enrolled in a weight loss program that delivers services through multiple channels, including a mobile app and offline office visits. Our results show that the use of the mobile app is positively associated with weight management by both free and paid users. For paid users, who have access to the mobile app and office visits, usage of both channels is associated with increased short-term weight loss. Furthermore, the two channels function as substitutes for one another, with users able to compensate for infrequent offline store visits through more intense mobile app usage. In the long term, however, only mobile app usage (and not offline store visits) contributes to the sustainability of weight loss, as reflected in reduced weight variability and lower overall failure rate. Qualitative evidence gleaned from interviews with actual customers substantiated the self-regulation mechanism enabled by mobile app usage. Additional empirical analyses further revealed that frequency and granularity of mobile app usage are positively associated with weight loss. We also found that individuals exposed to low performance pressure benefit more fully from mobile app usage. The results are robust to endogeneity concerns and alternative measures of the key variables. Overall, our analysis sheds light on the important role of a self-regulatory mobile app in a multichannel setting of personal weight management, as compared with the external influence stemming from human experts in offline channels, with useful implications for research and practice. Abstract: Live streaming has become an important feature on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. More and more entrepreneurs (content creators) are competing in live streaming platforms like Twitch to maximize the attention they receive from consumers (viewers). In this competitive landscape, it is crucial for entrepreneurs to develop and provide new compelling content that can maximize the consumers' attention and aid the discovery of their content. We adopt an exploration-exploitation framework and assess the four strategies these new entrepreneurs could use to attract viewership and position themselves on Twitch: exploration, exploitation, learning from viewers, and their neighbor streamers. We combined the natural language processing techniques with theory-driven measures to accomplish this. Abstract: The advent of the Internet of Things (IoT) has not only improved people’s quality of life but also raised concerns about information privacy. Although several studies have been conducted regarding information privacy concerns, there has not been sufficient discussion of the information privacy trade-off behavior in the IoT environment. Because previous studies only indirectly measured the information privacy trade-off behavior, the understanding of the behavior itself or its cause is limited. To address this issue, this study explored information privacy trade-off behavior in more depth using a large-scale sample and two-step analysis. Both panel data (23,724 samples for three years) and cross-sectional data (350 samples) were used in the analysis. The analysis results confirmed the existence of the information privacy trade-off for IoT users. Furthermore, it was found that the trade-off is associated with the social value of IoT devices and that men with IoT experience predominantly have strong trade-off behavior. Collapse

Abstract: In this study, we developed and tested a theoretical model to understand online music piracy behavior via email and instant messaging. We developed this theoretical model by drawing on a comprehensive literature review on music piracy, theory of reasoned action, social identity, and the deterrence theory. We collected primary data to test the hypotheses, and the results from the partial least squares analyses suggest attitude toward music file-sharing behavior and social identity positively affect intention to pirate music, whereas the perceived severity and certainty of punishment do not have significant effects on the attitude. The findings highlight the important role of social identity when a theoretical model with the concept explains music file-sharing behavior without monetary benefits in return. Collapse

Abstract: The widespread use of media streaming services has resulted in a surge in network traffic, triggering debates on network usage fees between Internet service providers (ISPs) and content providers (CPs). As a response to network usage fees imposed by ISPs, CPs have opted to provide discriminatory service quality as a means of mitigating costs associated with high traffic volume. In 2022, a leading Korean ISP charged discriminatory network usage fees to Twitch TV, the media streaming platform, due to its excessive network traffic. In response, Twitch implemented a discriminatory service quality reduction policy. Our study examines the impact of this policy on the streaming platform ecosystem. Our results indicate that the implementation of the service quality reduction led to a remarkable decline in the number of viewers, which then resulted in adverse effects for streamers. This study contributes to the literature on network neutrality violation by offering empirical evidence. Collapse

Abstract: Despite the potential of bike-sharing services to influence the local economy, the impact of these services on local businesses has been overlooked. Hence, this research aims to examine how a bike-sharing program influences the success of local businesses. We analyzed sales data of 2,928 local restaurants recorded from February to August 2019, along with bike rentals made near the restaurants. Our findings show that the number of bike rentals around a restaurant is positively associated with its sales. Further, the impact of bike rentals intensifies when there are more subway passengers around the restaurants but weakens with more bus passengers. Moreover, non-franchise and lesspopular restaurants benefit more from bike-sharing programs. Our findings offer significant contributions to the existing literature by theorizing the value of sharing economy in the local economy. Practically, our results provide strategic implications for policymakers, bike-sharing service providers, and local businesses to effectively use sharing economy programs. Collapse

Abstract: Donation-phobia has been spreading across several Korean nonprofit organizations (NPOs) because of donationrelated scandals. This study analyzes whether blockchain-based donation system (BDS) can resolve this problem by enhancing NPOs’ trustworthiness. This study examined the effects of the following three features of BDS: transparency, immutability, and efficiency, along with their subsequent effects on formation of NPOs’ trust­ worthiness. Accordingly, information on NPOs’ activities was offered using a BDS with a two-group post-testonly design.
