Abstract: Human users contribute to the spread of disinformation on Social Media. To reduce the spread, we apply Transaction Cost Economics (TCE) Safeguarding, which penalises the sharing of disinformation. Using the economic theory TCE positions Social Media platforms as free markets, in which actors are motivated to protect their assets and peer reputation. We conducted a study exploring TCE Safeguarding as a market correction mechanism to change the disinformation diffusion behaviour of users. Our findings show that users will be less likely to post a comment and more likely to correct their previous disinformation diffusion actions when TCE Safeguarding is applied. Focusing on Social Media as a market rather than its individual components may provide a mechanism to address the "fake news" phenomenon. Collapse

Abstract: The introduction of machine learning (ML), as the engine of many artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled systems in organizations, comes with the claim that ML models provide automated decisions or help domain experts improve their decision-making. Such a claim gives rise to the need to keep domain experts in the loop. Hence, data scientists, as those who develop ML models and infuse them with human intelligence during ML devel­ opment, interact with various ML stakeholders and reflect their views within ML models. This interaction comes with (often conflicting) demands from various ML stakeholders and potential tensions. Building on the theories of effective use and wise reasoning, this mixed method study proposes a model to better understand how data scientists can use wisdom for managing these tensions when they develop ML models. In Study 1, through interviewing 41 analytics and ML experts, we investigate the dimensions of wise reasoning in the context of ML development. In Study 2, we test the overall model using a sample of 249 data scientists. Our results confirm that to develop effective ML models, data scientists need to not only use ML systems effectively, but also practice wise reasoning in their interactions with domain experts. We discuss the implications of these findings for research and practice. Collapse

Abstract: There has been an increased usage and popularity of digital platforms during the COVID-19 crisis. This has resulted in many new types of digital platforms emerging that are tied to specific localities and based on emergent needs. This article presents the results of a study on the ClickforVic digital platform that was started during the first 2020 lockdown in Melbourne, Australia as a way for country farmers to connect with urban consumers. The study is premised on transformational entrepreneurship theory that enables a focus on the so­ cietal changes that have resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic. A semi-structured in-depth interview approach was utilised to understand how farm entrepreneurs perceived the digital platform and how this contributed to transformational entrepreneurship outcomes. The study is amongst the first to incorporate a digital platform, farm entrepreneurship, transformational entrepreneurship and COVID-19 perspective. The findings suggest that farm entrepreneurs are driven by financial, social and community goals during a crisis that influences their usage of digital platforms. As a consequence, the findings contribute to managerial practice and policy debate by highlighting the way digital platforms can be used in times of crisis to produce transformational entrepre­ neurship outcomes. Abstract: Fortnite is a massively multiplayer online firstperson shooter that grew rapidly in 2018 to become one of the world’s most popular games, with current estimates of 350 million active players. In this paper we argue that Fortnite’s success can – in part – be attributed to the affective sensation of worldness that it creates via its 10 week ‘seasons’. Via a study of children’s digital play cultures, we discuss the implications of this way of thinking about the spatial, social, and material structures of the gameworld for understanding Fortnite’s success, countering discourses of ‘videogame addiction’, and guiding future research. Abstract: Online open innovation platforms are being used widely in the public sector of many countries. Citizens are the main users of these types of platforms which allow citizens to share and post their ideas online. The citizens' values that can be derived from the content of public open innovation platforms are not clear in the literature as previous studies were limited to studying open innovation platforms in the private sector. This study will explore the content of two public online open innovation platforms, specifically citizens' interests which are called "values". The ideas of around 2580 citizens from open innovation platforms in Saudi Arabia and Australia will be analysed. By using thematic analysis and a non-linear coding process, themes will be generated. These themes are categories of citizens' values. Finally, citizens' values will be represented as a framework of the content of citizen inputs in public online open innovation platforms. Collapse

Abstract: The sharing economy has experienced massive growth in the short-term shared-home rental industry. However, few studies have investigated the determinants of the number of customer reviews received by these shared-homes. To fill this gap, we were motivated to propose an analytical framework that identified these determinants, both explicit and implicit. We applied Poisson, Quasi-Poisson, and Negative Binomial regressions with a dataset consisting of Airbnb properties from ten different cities worldwide, while successful bookings were proxied by the count of customer reviews posted by guests. We performed a cluster analysis based on the properties to generate homogeneous “cluster cities” and performed the regressions separately for each cluster. Among host-generated features, superhost, host duration, bedrooms, and amenities became significant. Among user-generated features, overall review scores and negative sentiments were significant. We also found that the “superhost” badge moderated the effects of host-generated content on the count of customer reviews. Consequently, guests paid a higher “price per night” for “superhost” properties, while they overlooked crucial attributes such as “website features.” Through these novel “cluster-specific” recommendations, our study extends the existing theories and contributes to the literature of decision analytics and tourism management. Finally, we performed a sensitivity analysis to check for the timeliness and robustness of these determinants. Collapse

This research in progress paper addresses the post-operative discharge phase of the patient journey and proffers a technology enabled model that both supports a quality care experience post discharge but also prudent management to minimize costly unplanned readmissions and thereby subscribe to a value-based care paradigm. The chosen context is stoma patients but the solution can be easily generalized to other contexts. Abstract: In this study, we examine the nature of Schumpeterian competition between entrants and incumbents. We argue that incumbents may respond to the threat of entry by either attacking the entrant or trying to learn from it, and that entrants, in turn, may react by either reciprocating the incumbent’s advances or retreating from it. Putting these competitive choices together, we develop a framework of four distinct potential scenarios of Schumpeterian competition. In particular, we emphasize a scenario we term creative divergence, wherein incumbents try to learn from entrants and build on their technologies, but their investments to do so cause entrants to retreat, resulting in diminishing returns to learning investments by incumbents. Exploratory analyses of the U.S. cardiovascular medical device industry find patterns consistent with the creative divergence scenario, with incumbent knowledge investments helping them to learn from entrants, but these learning benefits being undermined as entrants move away from incumbents. Abstract: Big data analytics is a fast-evolving phenomenon shaped by interactions among individuals, organizations, and society. However, its ethical implications for these stakeholders remain empirically underexplored and not well understood. We present empirical findings from a Delphi study that identified, defined, and examined the key concepts that underlie ethical issues in big data analytics. We then analyze those concepts using stakeholder theory and discourse ethics and suggest ways to balance interactions between individuals, organizations, and society in order to promote the ethical use of big data analytics. Our findings inform practitioners and policymakers concerned with ethically using big data analytics and provide a basis for future research. Collapse
