Abstract: As healthcare organisations are looking for ways to improve their processes, process mining techniques are increasingly being used. Current process mining methods do not offer support for translating process mining insights into actionable improvement ideas. By performing action research at two healthcare organisations, we introduce and illustrate the INTEL funnel, a novel three-staged method consisting of process familiarisation, domain explanation and improvement ideation. Our method complements existing process mining methods and constitutes the first attempt to open the black box regarding the path from process mining insights to actionable process improvement ideas. In this way, it can contribute to a more systematic uptake of process mining in healthcare practice. Collapse

Abstract: This paper examines how firms have transformed and executed IT-enabled remote work initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic. After examining archival data on a sample of 100 firms in Spain, we discover three types of IT-enabled remote work firm’s strategies: leader, agile, and survival. Leader companies have a competitive advantage over agile companies, which in turn have a competitive advantage over survival organizations. We find that firm size was crucial to executing remote work firm’s initiatives as a leader or survival. The industry significantly affected the implementation of remote work firm’s initiatives during the three pivotal periods in the telecommunications industry. Collapse

Abstract: When allowing third parties to join their platforms, platform owners run the risk of attracting harmful third-party complements. Existing literature considers that low-quality offerings negatively affect crossside user satisfaction and attractiveness, ultimately harming the platform's reputation and stability. However, recent events show that negative externalities from third-party offerings can also motivate platform sponsors to adapt their membership conditions. Existing platform literature does not explain the underlying theoretical mechanisms. In this paper, we examine why platform sponsors adjust the conditions that govern third parties joining their platforms in response to negative externalities. We apply legitimacy theory to a critical case on a payment transaction platform. We find that negative externalities affect both moral and regulatory legitimacy, which in turn motivate the platform sponsor to adjust the conditions under which third parties may join the platform. Abstract: Robotic Process Automation (RPA) has gained much attention both in industry and academia. One of the main challenges for a successful implementation of RPA is selecting which tasks should be automated. While different methods exist to identify RPA candidate tasks, they lack in providing objective evidence on why to automate that task. Such objective evidence can be gathered by applying process mining techniques to gain insights into the performance of a process and its tasks. Although this has multiple advantages, it can be time-consuming to analyze all potential processes. We conducted a literature review of existing methods to identify relevant criteria and method components, based on which we designed a framework for identifying and prioritizing suitable RPA candidate tasks: the Prioritized List of Suitable Tasks (PLOST) Framework. The framework includes both qualitative and quantitative assessment criteria and guides the analyst to focus on relevant processes before zooming in on the task level. It also takes into account a customized automation strategy. We conducted a case study to evaluate the applicability and effectiveness of the PLOST Framework and performed thinking-aloud sessions to evaluate its usability, practicality, and completeness. The results show that the framework is easy to apply and feasible. Collapse

Abstract: Incumbent business models are being challenged by technological developments, resulting in tension in these organizations. Thus, Leadership Teams (LT) need to execute Managerial Actions (MAs) which assist in Digital Business Strategy Implementation (DBSI). To explore these MAs in the context of the DBSI, we conducted seven in-depth case studies of Dutch incumbent firms across a diverse range of industries that were undertaking a DBSI. Five propositions were tested to identify the challenges that the LT encounters when using MAs in a DBSI, and their differences compared to a standard strategy implementation. All five propositions are supported, allowing us to form specific and practical recommendations for enabling the DBSI in various business contexts. Collapse

Abstract: Cyberattacks can be considered one of the fundamental challenges that paralyze the progress of digital payment usage (DPU) progress among citizens, as consumers shun away from using digital banking services due to increased concern over information security. National Cybersecurity Commitment (NCSC) has emerged as a preventive cybersecurity mechanism for countries to tackle such cybersecurity threats. Previous studies have shown that a country's NCSC positively impacts the business and economy of the country. This study examines the effect of NCSC on digital payment usage (DPU) across nations by grounding our discussion on the institutional trust theory. As trusting belief in security measures is a culturally embedded characteristic, we also examine the moderating role of national culture through Hofstede’s cultural dimensions. We use multilevel models to analyze publicly available archives of repeated cross-sectional data covering 76 countries to test the proposed relationships. Our findings indicate that NCSC has a positive influence on DPU. Further, our results highlight that the relationship between NCSC and DPU in a country is contingent on cultural dimensions. Overall, the evidence suggests that a competent cybersecurity environment compatible with cultural values can influence the speedy diffusion of digital payments in a country. Implications of our findings for research and practice are also discussed. Collapse

Abstract: Recently, the topic of research data management has appeared at the forefront of Open Science as a prerequisite for preserving and disseminating research data efficiently. At the same time, scientific laboratories still rely upon digital files that are processed by experimenters to analyze and communicate laboratory results. In this study, we first apply a forensic process to investigate the information quality of digital evidence underlying published results. Furthermore, we use semiotics to describe the quality of information recovered from storage systems with laboratory forensics techniques. Next, we formulate laboratory analytics capabilities based on the results of the forensics analysis. Laboratory forensics and analytics form the basis of research data management. Finally, we propose a conceptual overview of open science readiness, which combines laboratory forensics techniques and laboratory analytics capabilities to help overcome research data management challenges in the near future. Abstract: Decision Support Systems (DSS) are increasingly being used to support operational decision-making using large amounts of data. One key aspect to successful adoption is that the user trusts the DSS. Large contributors to trust often mentioned in literature and practice are transparency and explainability. But what happens when a DSS is transparent and explainable by design? What other contributors to trust are relevant is the main focus of this paper, in the context of Dutch governmental subject-matter experts designing and working with DSSs. We used a Mixed-Method Sequential Explanatory Design in which a survey was conducted to gather empirical data. The findings present 20 focal points contributing toward trust in DSS. These focal points require future research, specifically on considering these for development by the design of a DSS. Ultimately, this could help in increasing the adoption of DSSs in general.
