Abstract: Employees' nonwork use of information technology (IT), or cyberslacking, is of growing concern due to its erosion of job performance and other negative organizational consequences. Research on cyberslacking antecedents has drawn on diverse theoretical perspectives, resulting in the lack of a cohesive explanation of cyberslacking. Further, prior studies have generally overlooked IT-specific variables. To address cyberslacking problems in organizations, as well as research gaps in the literature, we used a combination of a literature-based approach and a qualitative inquiry to develop a model of cyberslacking that includes a 2×2 typology of antecedents. The proposed model was tested and supported in a three-wave field study of 395 employees in a U.S. Fortune-100 organization. This study organizes antecedents from diverse research streams and validates their relative impact on cyberslacking, thus providing a cohesive theoretical explanation of cyberslacking. This study also incorporates contextualization (i.e., IT-specific factors) into theory development and enriches the IS literature by examining the nonwork aspects of IT use and their negative consequences to organizations. In addition, the results provide practitioners with insights into the nonwork use of IT in organizations, particularly regarding how they can take organizational action to mitigate cyberslacking and maintain employee productivity. Abstract: Information technology (IT) professionals are a strategic human resource for enabling competitive advantage through the application of data and technologies. Yet, it remains a challenge for organizations to retain top IT talent as the business context and the nature of work change. Retention strategies that have worked with other business professionals have faced limited success with IT talent, leading some scholars to ask whether the latter are unique in terms of culture, personality, and tools. This study seeks to address this question by (1) undertaking a meta-analysis of studies investigating the turnover intentions of IT professionals, and by (2) conducting a second-order meta-analysis to compare findings between IT and non-IT professionals. The meta-analytic findings identify new antecedents more recently examined in information systems (IS) research while confirming enduring relationships between antecedents and turnover intention. The second-order meta-analysis provides intriguing findings regarding the potential uniqueness of IT professionals. We provide an integrative discussion on the state of turnover intention research within the IS discipline, start a dialog on interdisciplinary comparisons, and offer a forwardlooking agenda for future research. We conclude by calling on scholars to revitalize turnover intention research within the IS field by moving toward fresh theories, fresh constructs, and fresh approaches. Collapse

Abstract: To improve the academic integrity of online examination, digital proctoring systems have been implemented in higher education worldwide, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this paper, we conducted a literature review of the research on digital proctoring in higher education. We found 115 relevant publications in nine databases. We applied topic modeling methods to analyze the corpus which resulted in eight topics. The review shows that the previous studies focus largely on the systems' development, adoption of the systems, the effects of proctored online exams on students' performance, and the legal, ethical, security, and privacy issues of digital proctoring. The annual topic trends indicate future research concerns, such as systems' development, online programs (MOOCs) and proctoring, along with various issues of using digital proctoring. The results of the review provide useful insights as well as implications for future research on digital proctoring, a crucial process for digitalizing higher education. Collapse

Abstract: Leadership in online communities has received research attention in the past ten years. Given the popularity of online communities and practical challenges facing community operation and sustainability, understanding leadership in online communities has great practical and theoretical significance. We systematically collect and analyze the past ten years of research on leadership in online communities. By differentiating socio-oriented and technical-oriented leadership, we propose an integrative framework to link various leadership manifestations and the corresponding outcomes. While four types of outcomes emerge from our review, existing studies exhibit major interests in member participation, and the other three types of outcomes (i.e., task, team, and community outcomes) are less known. In addition, there is a lack of understanding of the boundary conditions, opening avenues for future research. This review study contributes to online leadership research by offering a holistic view of leadership mechanisms in online communities and identifying emerging research directions. Collapse

Abstract: Videoconferencing fatigue or 'Zoom' fatigue has emerged as a distinct and pressing phenomenon in light of rapid videoconferencing adoption during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of an ongoing broader literature review project, we find that extant literature primarily conceptualises videoconferencing fatigue as an error that needs to be detected and corrected based on techniques derived from medical, psychological, technological and media theories. However, we observe that videoconferencing is also a work activity, and thus consider what additional insights on videoconferencing fatigue could be obtained by deconstructing videoconferencing according to the labour that is involved in videoconferencing. Based on thematic analysis of the extant literature, we thus develop a perspective on videoconferencing in relation to the performative and interpretive labour that videoconferencing entails. This new way of thinking about videoconferencing fatigue, as labour cost, enables us to offer implications for theory and practice, and comment on directions for future research. Collapse

Abstract: Natural Language Processing (NLP) is now widely integrated into web and mobile applications, enabling natural interactions between humans and computers. Although there is a large body of NLP studies published in Information Systems (IS), a comprehensive review of how NLP research is conceptualised and realised in the context of IS has not been conducted. To assess the current state of NLP research in IS, we use a variety of techniques to analyse a literature corpus comprising 356 NLP research articles published in IS journals between 2004 and 2018. Our analysis indicates the need to move from semantics to pragmatics. More importantly, our findings unpack the challenges and assumptions underlying current research trends in NLP. We argue that overcoming these challenges will require a renewed disciplinary IS focus. By proposing a roadmap of NLP research in IS, we draw attention to three NLP research perspectives and present future directions that IS researchers are uniquely positioned to address. Collapse

Abstract: Human emotion expressed in social media plays an increasingly important role in shaping policies and decisions. However, the process by which emotion produces influence in online social media networks is relatively unknown. Previous works focus largely on sentiment classification and polarity identification but do not adequately consider the way emotion affects user influence. This research developed a novel framework, a theory-based model, and a proof-of-concept system for dissecting emotion and user influence in social media networks. The system models emotion-triggered influence and facilitates analysis of emotion-influence causality in the context of U.S. border security (using 5,327,813 tweets posted by 1,303,477 users). Motivated by a theory of emotion spread, the model was integrated in an influence-computation method, called the interaction modeling (IM) approach, which was compared with a benchmark using a user centrality (UC) approach based on social positions. IM was found to have identified influential users who are more broadly related to U.S. cultural issues. Influential users tended to express intense emotions of fear, anger, disgust, and sadness. The emotion trust distinguishes influential users from others, whereas anger and fear contributed significantly to causing user influence. The research contributes to incorporating human emotion into the data-information-knowledge-wisdom model of knowledge management and to providing new information systems artifacts and new causality findings for emotion-influence analysis. Abstract: A significant recent technological development concerns the automation of knowledge and service work as a result of advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its sub-fields. We use the term Intelligent Automation to describe this phenomenon. This development presents organisations with a new strategic opportunity to increase business value. However, academic research contributions that examine these developments are spread across a wide range of scholarly disciplines resulting in a lack of consensus regarding key findings and implications. We conduct the first interdisciplinary literature review that systematically characterises the intellectual state and development of Intelligent Automation technologies in the knowledge and service sectors. Based on this review, we provide three significant contributions. First, we conceptualise Intelligent Automation and its associated technologies. Second, we provide a business value-based model of Intelligent Automation for knowledge and service work and identify twelve research gaps that hinder a complete understanding of the business value realisation process. Abstract: Self-monitoring is a strategy that patients use to manage their chronic disease and chronic disease risk factors. Technological advances such as mobile apps, web-based tracking programs, sensing devices, wearable technologies, and insideable devices enable IT-based self-monitoring (ITSM) for chronic disease management. Since ITSM is multidisciplinary in nature and our understanding is fragmented, a systematic examination of the literature is performed to build a holistic understanding of the phenomenon. We review 159 studies published in 108 journals and conferences between 2006 and 2017. By adapting affordance actualization theory, we develop an overarching framework to organize the existing literature on ITSM for chronic disease management. Four themes emerge: key ITSM functionalities that enable affordances; effects on ITSM system use; effects on the achievement of chronic care goals; and the role of intermediary outcomes. For each theme, we identify what is known, what is unknown, and opportunities for future research. We also discuss cross-theme opportunities for future research where more diverse theoretical perspectives can contribute to our understanding of the phenomenon. This work provides research directions for IS researchers studying ITSM for chronic disease self-management. Collapse

Abstract: IT-based self-monitoring (ITSM) has attracted increasing interest as a strategy for chronic disease self-management and day-to-day fitness promotion. Despite the increasing popularity of various selfmonitoring technologies such as fitness trackers and biosensors, their effectiveness is less certain. The objective of the current review is to determine the effectiveness of ITSM interventions on two types of key chronic care outcomes: weight management and physical activity. A systematic review employing a meta-analysis identified 42 ITSM studies that report change-from-baseline effects on weight and physical activity-related outcomes. Overall, a small effect size is found for body weight, BMI, waist circumferences, and step-based physical activity. The effect estimates on time-based physical activity are moderate. However, the effects on physical activity show variability and potential publication bias. A post-hoc analysis of the effects of ITSM on self-efficacy exhibit a small yet significant effect size, which shows the potential mediating role of patients’ psychological outcomes on the ultimate behavioral outcomes. In summary, ITSM is a potentially useful approach to manage weight and physical activity. Further study is needed to determine the source of heterogeneity as well as the types of ITSM interventions that are effective for weight, physical activity, but also other chronic care outcomes.
