Abstract: Although self-service data preparation and analytics tools (SSPATs) have become increasingly popular and can provide major benefits to users, barriers associated with the technology and its usage may prevent adoption. Based on prior work on technology acceptance and related theories, this study develops a net effects model and a configurational effects model to further the understanding of SSPAT acceptance. Using a configurational lens, this study shows how a fresh methodological approach from a different epistemological stance applied to a well-established theoretical basis can offer novel insights into effects and patterns that may complement exisiting findings. The results of our empirical study based on a sample of 339 firms confirm insights from previous studies and advance them by providing vision for compound antecedents of SSPAT acceptance and complementarity effects among antecedent conditions. Abstract: This study applied the Needs-AffordancesFeatures (NAF) framework to study psychological motivations behind the use of Business Intelligence (BI) tools especially when the use of such tools is voluntary. Our findings suggest that psychological needs motivate the use of BI tools that provide 13 affordances to fulfill five psychological needs, namely autonomy, competence, relatedness, having a place and selfrealization. These affordances were identified through a review of six publicly available BI tools. This study posits that three groups of affordances––creation, collaboration, and communication––explain the relationship between psychological needs and applications of BI. This study generates important implications for BI research by providing an overarching framework for the affordances of BI tools as a whole and explaining the importance of psychological needs that motivate the use of BI tools. The results also provide a new lens and common vocabulary for future studies and design of BI tools. Collapse

Abstract: In consideration of the general lack of trust in human professional financial advisors due to conflicts of interest, and given inadequacies in terms of the utility of FinTech alternatives for financial goal recommendations, this study establishes a framework for an ontology-based, multiagent recommender system designed to improve financial capability through the recommendation of financial goals, called FinPathlight. The FinPathlight framework provides an architecture for a personal financial recommender system designed to identify and recommend specific, achievable financial goals appropriate to a wide range of financially situated users. This framework contributes principles of implementation for a novel financial technology (FinTech) application aimed at addressing a pervasive lack of trust surrounding traditional financial advisory services, as well as utility inadequacies within the current landscape for FinTech applications, providing a comprehensive set of practical and explicit financial goal recommendations. Considering the importance of users' adoption of an innovation, this study empirically tests its utility in terms of trust and perceived usefulness. The experimental evaluation results show that an application built using this framework would likely be perceived as trustworthy and useful to users for identification and selection of financial capability enhancing objectives. Abstract: This paper presents a model, synthesized from the literature, of factors that explain how business analytics contributes to business value. It also reports results from a preliminary assessment of that model. The model consists of two parts: a process and a variance model. The process model depicts the analyze-insight-decision-action process through which use of an organization's business analytic capabilities is intended to create business value. The variance model proposes that the five factors in Davenport et al.'s DELTA model of business analytics success factors, six from Watson & Wixom and three from Seddon et al.'s model of organizational benefits from enterprise systems, assist a firm to gain business value from business analytics. A preliminary assessment of the model was conducted using data from 100 customer success stories from vendors such as IBM, SAP and Teradata. Our conclusion is that the business analytics success model is likely to be a useful basis for future research. Collapse

Abstract: Category management (CM) plays an increasingly important role in retailing management, as it aids retailers to increase their core competitiveness, maximise profits and ensure a good long-term customer relationship. This technique has been successfully applied to diverse large manufacturers and wholesale retailers. However, it remains a challenging task to directly employ the CM technique in convenience store (CVS) chain(s). This is because CVS chains are often distributed in a variety of areas, each store has impulsive consumers, and the traditional market segmentation attributes (e.g. consumer age, salary, and background) are difficult to collect under such circumstances. This makes it impractical to apply one general CM solution to all CVS chains. Hence, it is crucial to segment a market region and then apply customised CM solutions to the corresponding segments. This paper presents an innovative market segmentation model which is driven by category-role (CR), for the first time, to support CM in CVS chains. A new similarity measure (named HCsim()) and an improved weighted fuzzy K-means clustering algorithm (WFKM) are developed in an effort to cluster the CVSs. The usefulness and applicability of this study is illustrated by means of an empirical study to provide marketing strategy decision support. Abstract: Business Intelligence (BI) solutions are complex and abstract. "You can build the solution, but users will not come," Cindi Howson writes in her famous BI book, indicating that even if it is successfully implemented, a BI solution may not be used to its full intention. Guided by the research question, "How do we bootstrap and adapt a BI solution?" this study investigates a successful BI solution at a large Norwegian company. Based on a case study, this paper argues that it is fruitful to regard a successful BI solution as the growth of an Information Infrastructure rather than the implementation of a certain technology alone. Drawing on the definition by Hanseth and Lyytinen, an Information Infrastructure is a shared, open, heterogeneous, and evolving socio-technical system (which they call an installed base) consisting of users, a set of IT capabilities, operations, and design communities. This paper attempts to describe how the case company is sustaining their successful BI solution and what we can learn. As a practical contribution, it offers three guidelines for BI practitioners.
