Abstract: Platform ecosystems are characterized by knowledge boundaries that arise between the platform owner and third-party developers. Although major platform owners such as Microsoft and SAP nurture sponsored online communities to overcome knowledge boundaries in their ecosystem, the peculiarities of such communities are yet to be examined. Drawing upon the lead user and media richness theory, we investigate how different user roles and media types influence the value of a knowledge contribution in such communities. Analyzing one million answers from the SAP Community, we uncovered that both lead users and sponsor representatives are more likely to provide valuable knowledge contributions compared to normal users. Moreover, we show that attachments, code snippets, and links significantly enhance the value of a knowledge contribution. Surprisingly, we find a strong negative moderation effect of code snippets on the contributions of sponsor representatives but a strong positive moderation effect on the contributions of lead users. Abstract: Digitalization permeates entire companies. Rethinking information systems (IS) success models developed in the 1980/1990s becomes obvious. But how does one define such a new model and implement it? Taking an SAP S/4HANA migration as our use case, the new triple "E" rating on hand focuses on the IS success of digital technologies by balancing efficiency, effectiveness, and experience criteria. Six takeaways emerge from our case study that should drive future discussion: (1) Evaluate digital technologies by adopting a simple but comprehensive approach including criteria beyond efficiency.(2) Consider diverse IS success perspectives consciously but never lose focus on the enduser. (3) A triad of efficiency, effectiveness, and experience encompasses the challenges of digital technologies. (4) Separate efficiency and effectiveness criteria, however, consider trade-offs between them. (5) The experience category highlights digital awareness and socio-technical changes. Abstract: Fostering positive attitudes and increasing knowledge are key success factors for enterprise systems. Training can improve knowledge, but little research has investigated the effects of domain-relevant knowledge on salient cognitive beliefs and attitude in technology acceptance. We highlight the critical role of domain-relevant knowledge in the formation of beliefs and the shaping of attitude by developing a model of informed technol­ ogy acceptance. We hypothesize the positive effects of multi-dimensional enterprise resource planning (ERP) knowledge on salient cognitive beliefs (i.e., ERP self-efficacy, perceived ease of use, and perceived usefulness) and general affective attitude toward an ERP system. Using survey data from gamified ERP training of 248 professionals from three different organizations, results support the proposed model, suggesting that ERP knowledge is an important antecedent of ERP self-efficacy, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and attitude. We find that ERP knowledge exhibits both direct and indirect effects on attitude. Moreover, we find that gamified training is an effective means of improving ERP knowledge. Collapse

Abstract: Dedicated complementors are devoted, faithful, and willing to invest in their partnership with a platform owner. Since such complementors promise continuous value co-creation, complementor dedication is an essential objective of platform governance. However, as dedicated complementors also increase their vulnerability vis-à-vis the platform owner, platform governance needs to strike a balance between satisfying global ecosystem needs and the local partnership needs. To understand this challenge better, our study develops six hypotheses on how two fundamental governance mechanisms – i.e., rules and the way in which these rules are practised – independently and symbiotically drive complementor dedication. We test these hypotheses using survey data from 181 complementors. Our findings show that complementors become more dedicated to a platform owner, the more adequate they perceive the rules to be. Furthermore, our findings suggest two sensible strategies to actualise the potential of adequate rules. Platform owners should either refrain entirely from practising rules with situational flexibility and benevolence, thereby achieving moderate complementor dedication. Alternatively, they should practice rules with both flexibility and benevolence at the same time, thereby maximising complementor dedication. Our findings contribute to the literature on platform governance and broader governance literature. Collapse

Abstract: With the increasing complexity of business processes in today’s organizations and the ever-growing amount of structured accounting data, identifying erroneous or fraudulent business transactions and corresponding journal entries poses a major challenge for public accountants at annual audits. In current audit practice, mainly static rules are applied which check only a few attributes of a journal entry for suspicious values. Encouraged by numerous successful adoptions of deep learning in various domains we suggest an approach for applying autoencoder neural networks to detect unusual journal entries within individual financial accounts. The identified journal entries are compared to a list of entries that were manually tagged by two experienced auditors. The comparison shows high f-scores and high recall for all analyzed financial accounts. Additionally, the autoencoder identifies anomalous journal entries that have been overlooked by the auditors. The results underpin the applicability and usefulness of deep learning techniques in financial statement audits. Collapse

Abstract: Organizations face challenges after a new enterprise system (ES) implementation, including employee resistance and negative impacts on organizational outcomes. ESs are used by employees in coordination with their team members for executing business processes. Consequently, team characteristics are likely to play a critical role in influencing perceptions about effective process execution and performance when using ESs. Yet research has not investigated the influence of team characteristics, such as team coordination, shared mental models, and mutual trust, in overcoming challenges associated with process execution following a new ES implementation. We conducted a lab simulation to investigate the role of team characteristics to moderate the influence of process characteristics on team and process performance. We posit that even if teams initially perceive processes as complex, rigid, and radical, team characteristics can mitigate these perceptions and reduce their influence on performance outcomes. Abstract: Due to the growing complexity of processes, regulations, policies and guidelines (e.g., Sarbanes-Oxley-Act) computer-assisted business process analysis - known as process mining - is becoming more and more relevant for organisations. One discipline of process mining is backward compliance checking, which aims to detect non-compliant process variants based on historic data. Most existing approaches compare the "as-is" view with desired process models. However, most organisations do not maintain such models, making such approaches less attractive. This paper proposes a process flow analysis which uses graph-reachability to check whether the actual "as-is" process graph violates compliance constraints. Our approach is inspired by the taint flow algorithm which is used in code analysis to identify security vulnerabilities in software applications. We conducted a case study evaluating the compliance of event logs and performed a benchmark to show that our approach outperforms the LTL checker and the PetriNet pattern approach in ProM. Collapse

Abstract: Streamlining the operation of the extended global supply chain is challenging since it involves a multitude of information systems and companies in several countries. Academia partly fails to fulfill the demand for candidates with the knowledge and skills for executing international business transactions. Consequently, we lack candidates who can translate theory into actions, thereby creating a knowledge-doing gap. This paper contributes to bridging this gap by introducing a new learning activity: the global supply chain learning activity denoted as the GSC-Activity. The GSC-Activity lets students execute export and import transactions in an international business-to-business environment involving several companies while handling both the inter-company order flow and the internal order management cycles at each company using their ERP system. This provides student with deep exposure to the information flow along the chain and experience in executing export and import processes of each company. We provide a workable example of the GSC-Activity with a case study repeated over several semesters involving students from Australia and Norway. Collapse

Core business activities are being carried out through OLTP systems that provide limited monitoring capabilities of the running process instances. The article shows how to turn the gap between the classic transactional system and the processcentric approach into an organization that provides more accurate and faster decisions on the strategic and operational management levels. This study aims at determination of what kind of information can be retrieved during the process execution and it tries to identify the need for the real-time process intelligence on the example of the order-tocash process. Furthermore, we compare two architectural approaches of the real-time process intelligence monitoring system. Abstract: Enterprises have a large amount of data available, represented in different formats normally accessible for different specialists through different tools. Integrating existing data, also those from more informal sources, can have great business value when used together as discussed for instance in connection to big data. On the other hand, the level of integration and exploitation will depend both on the data quality of the sources to be integrated, and on how data quality of the different sources matches. Whereas data quality frameworks often consist of unstructured list of characteristics, here a framework is used which has been traditionally applied for enterprise and business model quality, with the data quality characteristics structured relative to semiotic levels, which makes it easier to compare aspects in order to find opportunities and challenges for data integration. A case study presenting the practical application of the framework illustrates the usefulness of the approach for this purpose. This approach reveals opportunities, but also challenges when trying to integrate data from different data sources typically used by people in different roles in an organization. Collapse
