Abstract: Technology acceptance is crucial, if newly implemented enterprise systems (ES) in a company are to succeed. This is often addressed by end-user training during the implementation project. Perceived enjoyment and positive user experience (UX) have gained significant importance as technology acceptance factors. Yet, research on the design of such trainings is scarce, and literature with focus on perceived UX of ES even more so. This is in contrast to findings from other contexts which show that perceived UX may heavily impact user attitudes and learning motivation. As a first endavour in this direction, this paper presents an exploratory pre-study on first impressions of main operating ES with regard to expected usability and UX. Results show that ES are rated low, especially when compared to a universal UX benchmark. We discuss how more positive first impressions may positively impact motivation to learn the system, which will be investigated in a follow-up study. Collapse

Abstract: Digitalization permeates entire companies. Rethinking information systems (IS) success models developed in the 1980/1990s becomes obvious. But how does one define such a new model and implement it? Taking an SAP S/4HANA migration as our use case, the new triple "E" rating on hand focuses on the IS success of digital technologies by balancing efficiency, effectiveness, and experience criteria. Six takeaways emerge from our case study that should drive future discussion: (1) Evaluate digital technologies by adopting a simple but comprehensive approach including criteria beyond efficiency.(2) Consider diverse IS success perspectives consciously but never lose focus on the enduser. (3) A triad of efficiency, effectiveness, and experience encompasses the challenges of digital technologies. (4) Separate efficiency and effectiveness criteria, however, consider trade-offs between them. (5) The experience category highlights digital awareness and socio-technical changes. (6) Tailor your triple "E" rating individually to your project. Collapse

Abstract: Benchmarking is a continuous process of identifying highest standards for products, services, and processes. Best practices from top performing companies define a “first quartile” which acts as the target state. However, such a kind of benchmarking is backward-looking. If digital is disruptive, it distorts the philosophy of benchmarking in its very essence. Based on a literature review and applying the Rasch algorithm to data from a manager-working-group survey, we lay out a new – forward-looking – benchmarking method with a zero quartile in focus. Taking Finance 2025 as our example, we propose eight design guidelines and four imperatives covering the order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, record-to-report, and enterprise performance management processes to accelerate a company’s transformation by leveraging digital technologies.
