Abstract: Project management methodology is important to the success of a project. However, changes in technology and practitioner approach have led to a mix of methodologies known as hybrid. This research sought to identify the types of project management methodologies practitioners currently use and determine factors that impact how a project manager selects a methodology.A survey questionnaire was used to identify methodologies and types of project management tools, techniques, and processes used. Correlation and chi-square analysis analyzed if three specific factors (industry, project manager experience level, and technology project type) influenced the selection of a predictive, adaptive, or hybrid methodology. The results showed that industry and technology project type are factors in the methodology selection, but project manager years of experience was not. Overall, the analysis supported that there is no "one size fits all" when it comes to methodology selection, but hybrid is emerging as the predominant approach. Abstract: Information systems research has a long-standing interest in how organizations gain value through information technology. In this article, we investigate a business process intelligence (BPI) technology that is receiving increasing interest in research and practice: process mining. Process mining uses digital trace data to visualize and measure the performance of business processes in order to inform managerial actions. While process mining has received tremendous uptake in practice, it is unknown how organizations use it to generate business value. We present the results of a multiple case study with key stakeholders from eight internationally operating companies. We identify key features of process mining – data & connectivity, process visualiza­ tion, and process analytics – and show how they translate into a set of affordances that enable value creation. Specifically, process mining affords (1) perceiving end-to-end process visualiza­ tions and performance indicators, (2) sense-making of process-related information, (3) datadriven decision making, and (4) implementing interventions. Value is realized, in turn, in the form of process efficiency, monetary gains, and non-monetary gains, such as customer satisfac­ tion. Our findings have implications for the discourse on IT value creation as we show how process mining constitutes a new class of business intelligence & analytics (BI&A) technology, that enables behavioral visibility and allows organizations to make evidence-based decisions about their business processes. Abstract: Quality 4.0” is a central research field of quality management in times of industry 4.0. However, the topic is rather new, and a profound theoretical foundation of the concept does not yet exist. Hence, it is not clear whether existing quality management methods can be smoothly transferred to industry 4.0 settings or not. Moreover, companies often lack the time to design quality management approaches for this field and to critically scrutinize the skills needed by quality managers for quality 4.0. Based on a structured literature review, this study takes the perspective of method engineers in quality management. It provides an overview of those quality management methods and quality techniques that are frequently discussed in quality 4.0 literature and seem promising for quality projects in industry 4.0 settings. Abstract: Process mining offers a set of techniques for gaining data-based insights into business processes from event logs. The literature acknowledges the potential benefits of using process mining techniques in Six Sigma-based process improvement initiatives. However, a guideline that is explicitly dedicated on how process mining can be systematically used in Six Sigma initiatives is lacking. To address this gap, the Process Mining for Six Sigma (PMSS) guideline has been developed to support organizations in systematically using process mining techniques aligned with the DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) model of Six Sigma. Following a design science research methodology, PMSS and its tool support have been developed iteratively in close collaboration with experts in Six Sigma and process mining, and evaluated by means of focus groups, demonstrations and interviews with industry experts. The results of the evaluations indicate that PMSS is useful as a guideline to support Six Sigma-based process improvement activities. It offers a structured guideline for practitioners by extending the DMAIC-based standard operating procedure. PMSS can help increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of Six Sigma-based process improving efforts. This work extends the body of knowledge in the fields of process mining and Six Sigma, and helps closing the gap between them. Hence, it contributes to the broad field of quality management. In this respect, the quality of these services is decisive for truly creating added "value" for customers. However, smart service quality is an under-researched topic in the quality management discipline to date, and operational methods and tools are largely missing. Abstract: Using a multilevel theoretical framework, we investigate the effects of organizational and perceived learning on employees’ systematic problem solving (SPS) that aims to prevent the recurrence of a problem. At the organizational level, we focus on the deliberate learning mechanisms of knowledge articulation (OKA) and knowledge codification (OKC). At the individual level, we focus on the relative perception of the mechanisms of knowledge articulation (PKA) and knowledge codification (PKC). Drawing on both knowledge management and sensemaking literature, we move from learning only captured through organizational mechanisms, which suppose individuals are passively embedded in the organizational context, to learning captured through perceived mechanisms, which suppose individuals take an active part in the learning processes and interpret them differently. We employ multilevel structural equation modeling to test our theoretical framework using survey data from a sample of 383 shop floor employees in 52 plants. To enhance our results, we perform a set of robustness checks that control different specifications of our model and potential endogeneity issues. Our study indicates that OKC affects SPS, while OKA affects OKC. Moreover, results show that both PKA and PKC have strong positive effects on SPS. Our study draws attention to the multilevel role of organizational learning and expands the understanding of the role of problem solving in routine evolution. Abstract: Although Business Process Management (BPM) scholars frequently refer to the importance of aligning employee appraisals and rewards with processes, little is known about how the BPM discipline relates to these human resource aspects. We therefore conducted an exploratory case study in an internationally oriented organization with high BPM maturity to acquire a deeper understanding with the first-hand practices. We first elaborate on how the case organization includes behavioural and results-related components into its appraisals and performance management approach to improve employee alignment and process performance. Afterwards, we explain how and for which processrelated elements employees get rewarded and recognized. As academic implications, we build two preliminary frameworks that lay the foundation for further research. Abstract: Practitioners and academics alike have highlighted that information systems (IS) research may currently have limited use and value to practitioners. Further, research provides examples of positive links between management practices prevalent in the media and their influence on societal views. We focus on increasing relevance of future academic research to practitioners by identifying sources of misalignment between practitioner and academic literatures on the topic of information technology service management (ITSM) and by developing a possible research agenda to address these misalignments. We employ an entity annotator and keyword analysis to compare the main topics evident in academic and practitioner literatures on ITSM and focus on those salient in practitioner literature. Our results suggest that the topics of framework co-implementation, regulations, ITSM tools, gamification, and cloud computing all present fertile grounds for relevant research in ITSM and IS more broadly. Thus, our paper offers a unique way for academics to understand how they can best assist practitioners while increasing the relevance of academic research. Collapse

First-generation CEMs address design and development CE solutions. Existing CEMs, though, focus on the design/build phase, but lack the pre-design and post-build elements that are common to methodologies for adjacent disciplines. We use Design Science Research to situate existing design/build CEMs in the larger context of CE programs and projects. We develop and validate an extended CEM in four phases: 1) Opportunity Assessment, 2) Development, 3) Deployment, and 4) Improvement (ODDI). Phase 1 concerns CE portfolio management and CE project planning; Phase 2 encapsulates existing design/build CEMs; Phase 3 concerns roll-out planning, change management, and implementation; Phase 4 concerns continuous optimization of a deployed work practice. The ODDI model advances CE another step towards becoming a fully realized professional practice, but more research is still required to derive a complete a design theory for CE. Collapse
