Abstract: Digital identity systems are mandated to be established by all countries as part United Nations Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDG 16.9) However, globally, over a billion people are still without a digital identity. Digital identity projects, across continents, have achieved underwhelming results and are facing implementation hurdles. This research examines the architecture and design of digital identity platforms which enable achieving platform objectives. Design science approach of General Morphological Analysis (GMA) has been employed for such examination. Cases of both-a successful and another moderately successful digital identity program implementation have been examined to validate testable propositions regrading optimal architecture/design aspects of such platforms. Research learnings are relevant for policy makers and technology designers to incorporate such platform design aspects in respective national digital identity initiatives. In addition, this research contributes to design science body of knowledge by empirical generalization of a configurable template and design factors in respect of digital identity platforms. Abstract: Despite the large number of systematic literature reviews (SLRs) on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for service delivery, scholars suggest more scientific evidence. However, the direction that these reviews will take depends on the knowledge accumulated in the existing literature. Therefore, the objective of this research is to explore SLRs that have synthesized the use of AI for service delivery. We conducted a tertiary study, which consists of a bibliometric analysis of SLRs. We searched SLRs published over the last ten years in six bibliographic databases. Sixty-six studies meeting the inclusion criteria were processed through a bibliometric analysis in which we combined article metadata with data extracted from the full-text review. The results describe the publication trends of SLRs, their application domains, and the particularities of the private and public sectors. Recommendations for future SLRs on the use of AI for service delivery are proposed. Collapse

Abstract: The sustainability of commons has benefited from Elinor Ostrom´s analysis of shared resources. In her work, sustainability was described in a univocal manner–successful or not–depending on the common’s long-term capacity to survive within an uncertain environment. In recent years, this view of sustainability has been applied to the study of digital commons, including open source. Building on more recent work on sustainability, this paper challenges this univocal conception of sustainability in open source. Through a critical review of the literature, it unveils the coexistence of multiple notions of sustainability in open source and proposes a typology of sustainabilities (resource-based, infrastructural, and interactional). We propose that the degree and quality of the interrelationship between these different types of sustainability need to be explored, leading to the theorisation of three possible scenarios (trade-offs, synergy, and independence). Abstract: The deployment of machine learning (ML)-based decision support systems (DSSs) in high-risk environments such as radiology is increasing. Despite having achieved high decision accuracy, they are prone to errors. Thus, they are primarily used to assist radiologists in their decision making. However, collaborative decision making poses risks to the decision maker, e.g. automation bias and long-term performance degradation. To address these issues, we propose combining findings of the research streams of explainable artificial intelligence and education to promote human learning through interaction with ML-based DSSs. We provided radiologists with explainable vs nonexplainable decision support that was high-vs low-performing in a between-subject experimental study to support manual segmentation of 690 brain tumor scans. Our results show that explainable ML-based DSSs improved human learning outcomes and prevented false learning triggered by incorrect decision support. In fact, radiologists were able to learn from errors made by the low-performing explainable ML-based DSS. Collapse

Managing the inner workings of collective intelligence approaches for wicked problems -An assessment model and evaluation. Abstract:Ill-defined and complex problems that affect multiple stakeholders with potentially conflicting perspectives are often referred to as wicked problems. The utilization of collective intelligence (CI) via web-based platforms is a promising approach for addressing such wicked problems. The management of these information systems would benefit from evidence-based decision support regarding facilitation and improvement efforts. However, to date, there is no suitable model to guide such efforts. Existing approaches address specific applications or cover certain assessment areas but do not provide a holistic perspective. Meanwhile, research offers substantial insights into best practices for addressing wicked problems and running CI applications. This paper develops an assessment model comprising five central success dimensions for information systems that address wicked problems. Their subdimensions and associated measurement metrics allow for evidence-driven facilitation and improvement of CI applications for wicked problems. Apart from the model's capability to improve future runs and processes, it also offers the potential to provide immediate insights for facilitation efforts during runtime. The model was validated with a platform dealing with the assessment of risks presented by global climate change. His work on MIT Center for Collective Intelligence's (CCI) CoLab platforms seeks to harness the collective intelligence of large numbers of people, from all around the world, to address big, complex problems. He came to MIT in the late 1990s to join the Initiative on Inventing the Organizations of the 21st Century (21C), which examined how information technology was transforming business organizations and how those changes were reshaping employment arrangements. Abstract: Crowdsourcing holds great potential: macro-task crowdsourcing can, for example, contribute to work addressing climate change. Macro-task crowdsourcing aims to use the wisdom of a crowd to tackle non-trivial tasks such as wicked problems. However, macro-task crowdsourcing is labor-intensive and complex to facilitate, which limits its efficiency, effectiveness, and use. Technological advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) might overcome these limits by supporting the facilitation of crowdsourcing. However, AI’s potential for macro-task crowdsourcing facilitation needs to be better understood for this to happen. Here, we turn to affordance theory to develop this understanding. Affordances help us describe action possibilities that characterize the relationship between the facilitator and AI, within macro-task crowdsourcing. We follow a two-stage, bottom-up approach: The initial development stage is based on a structured analysis of academic literature. The subsequent validation & refinement stage includes two observed macro-task crowdsourcing initiatives and six expert interviews. From our analysis, we derive seven AI affordances that support 17 facilitation activities in macro-task crowdsourcing. We also identify specific manifestations that illustrate the affordances. Our findings increase the scholarly understanding of macro-task crowdsourcing and advance the discourse on facilitation. Further, they help practitioners identify potential ways to integrate AI into crowdsourcing facilitation. These results could improve the efficiency of facilitation activities and the effectiveness of macro-task crowdsourcing. Collapse

Abstract: Creating and delivering products and services that promote sustainability is increasingly important in today's economy. Novel services based on digital technologies and infrastructure can significantly contribute to sustainable development, as demonstrated by digitally enabled car-sharing services where increased asset utilization reduces production-related greenhouse gas emissions. However, there is still limited knowledge on how digital service innovation can purposefully be applied to promote sustainability.To address this gap, we conduct a systematic literature review and perform a qualitative inductive analysis of 50 articles on the impact of digital service innovation on social, environmental, and economic sustainability. We provide a comprehensive overview of real-world applications and identify five underlying mechanisms through which innovation with digital services can drive sustainable development. Abstract: This paper reframes our understanding of the discourse on work-life balance (WLB) from a global perspective, where life on the four income levels (from bottom of the wealth to top of the wealth) is equally considered. Based on a systematic literature review, our initial insights are that WLB of workers in the highest economic sectors has received significant attention from scholars and practitioners in the west, while the global rest and those in other economic sectors, which represents the majority of the world's population, has almost entirely been overlooked. We argue for a new understanding of WLB that addresses the needs of all people across the globe, regardless of their economic status or geographic position, and independent of their formal or informal work contexts. In our future work, we aim to address how disparities in: (1) agency and dependence; (2) privacy and exposure; (3) connection and disconnection; and (4) formality and informality can affect people's dignity, equality, and healthy environments. Abstract: This paper addresses the challenge of finding criteria to evaluate social inclusiveness of sociotechnical systems (STS). While IT offers opportunities to reduce inequalities, the "digital divide" is a growing challenge. This divide between individuals with access and sufficient digital literacy, has economic and social consequences. Although several factors have been identified as barriers to the use of IT or design principles for socially inclusive research, there is a gap in the literature in assessing the final STS in their social inclusivity. This paper aims to identify criteria for evaluating STS in terms of social inclusion of the digitally disadvantaged. Based on the STS perspective, design requirements and principles are derived to help design a checklist of whether needs of digitally disadvantaged have been met. The paper contributes to the existing body of knowledge by adding the STS design evaluation step to the current literature. Collapse

Abstract: Although on top of research and practice agendas, digital transformation is still challenging, but promising in addressing economic and ecologic sustainability. However, we lack understanding of the effects of digital transformation on social sustainability and vice versa. Given the relevance of humancentred challenges during digital transformation, a better understanding of the effects of digital transformation on social sustainability is needed. To provide such holistic understanding, we present two effect path models that reflect the effects of digital transformation on social sustainability in the fields of health, education, and equality. Building on a structured literature review and a case study, we find education at the centre of two circular relationships affecting health and equality and highlight the duality of social sustainability as an effect and a driver of digital transformation. Thus, we contribute novel perspectives on digital transformation for social sustainability and aim at inspiring practitioners to foster intra-organisational social sustainability. Collapse
