Abstract: Anthropogenic activities over the past few decades have led to increased vulnerability of environmental and ecological stability on this planet. Accelerated climate change is one such subset of the environmental problems that threatens the very existence of humankind in twenty first century. Governments, United Nations (UN) and other humanitarian agencies across the globe have developed and devised strategies for climate action that requires grater public awareness and actions. Social media has played a vital role in information dissemination and raising public awareness of climate change in the digital era. To this aid, an upsurge has been documented in recent times regarding discussions over climate change with #SDG13 (Sustainable Development Goals) at its epicenter. Following the principles of Actor Network Theory (ANT) we analyzed a large volume of Twitter data to understand general citizens’ perception and attitude towards climate change. Our findings unveil people’s opinion on causes and concerns related to barriers of adopting a more sustainable consumption and lifestyle practice. There is also a growing apathy towards sluggish government actions that makes little difference. People were also found to exchange innovative concepts and measures towards mitigating the effects of climate change. Collapse

Abstract: Sustainable development depends on the empowerment of the vast portion of rural people. Bangladesh Government has taken initiatives to empower the disadvantaged people (i.e., elderly, poor and minority) through digitalization programs, e.g., union digital centers (UDCs). This study aimed to investigate the influential factors on the empowerment process by adopting the individual and collective empowerment dimensions. A total of 400 rural people were selected with a judgmental sampling process and provided a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed by using SPSS for descriptive analysis and CBSEM using AMOS for effect assessment. Individual empowerment and collective empowerment have significant impacts on sustainable development. It is argued that for sustainable development and reaching development benefits to every house, rural people must be empowered. The findings will contribute to the body of knowledge theoretically and assume policymakers insights to focus on rural people's development with the nation. Abstract: This study aims to address a key obstacle to climate action: intergenerational discounting, a phenomenon that explains the tendency for people to prefer smaller benefits for themselves now, rather than larger benefits for future generations. Intergenerational discounting becomes even more problematic due to a growing global population and increasingly intensive use of natural resources. In this research-in-progress paper, we follow the design science approach and outline how we aim to establish design principles necessary for digital interventions to overcome intergenerational discounting and achieve genuine and lasting behavior change toward sustainable consumer choices. The expected outcome of this study is to create digital interventions that transform the way consumers engage in sustainable behaviors. Collapse

Abstract: During the first wave of COVID-19 lockdowns, the infrastructure for supporting homeless neighbors disintegrated in many countries. As one important area of support, it became difficult to provide small donations to homeless neighbors. In an action design researchbased project, as part of a national hackathon initiative and accelerator program, we contributed to the development of a digital donation concept. We frame this process as a digital social innovation for vulnerable people and highlight the need to consider stakeholder and value orientation during the design, implementation, and evaluation stages. Our findings include a reflection of the project course, a description of the developed concept, an analysis of how values shaped the design, and a formalization of learnings. Collapse

Abstract: Although a favorable disposition towards sustainable consumption has been gaining momentum, it fails to materialize into action. This study illustrates how IS design can influence sustainable consumption through the inclusion of persuasive agents. Building on Fogg's behavioral model for persuasive technology design, we designed a persuasive shopping agent that differentially 'nudges' users to purchase sustainable products according to their motivational level towards sustainable consumption. Specifically, we designed a 'spark' shopping agent that motivates cynical consumers by highlighting the benefits and corresponding risks of sustainable consumption, and a 'signal' shopping agent that simply reminds the caring and sustainable consumers of the availability of sustainable product options. Through a between-subject experiment, we confirm the effectiveness of both agents, although our study finds that users already active in sustainable consumption are not affected by persuasive agent design. Our findings have significant contributions and implications for both research and practice around Green IS design. Collapse
