Abstract: While it is widely recognized that weather impacts the power flow, historically weather information has only been implicitly included. This paper presents an approach for the direct inclusion of weather information in the power flow. Key issues addressed by the paper include the availability of weather information, the mapping of weather information to electric grid components, a flexible and extensible modeling approach for relating weather values to the power flow models, and the visualization of the weather impacts. The approach is demonstrated on several electric grids ranging in size from 7000 to 82,000 buses using weather data over several different years. Collapse

Abstract: The over-the-top (OTT) industry has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years with a sharp increase in the number of subscribers, leading to increased competition among OTT platforms to acquire movie rights. Conse­ quently, the gap between the theatrical and OTT releases has been diminishing over the last few years. An early release of a movie on an OTT platform fetches a higher distribution fee for a movie distributor (MD), however, it reduces the MD’s revenue from the theatrical release. Therefore, it becomes critical for the MD to determine the optimal release time and distribution fee combination. In this paper, we analytically solve the MD’s decision problem and provide a detailed analysis of how the optimal release time varies with changes in platform characteristics such as the proportion of ad revenue and the platform’s risk profile, movie characteristics such as success factor and suitability for OTT, and market characteristics such as broadband penetration, piracy rate and customers’ preferences for viewing channels. We compare our results with the actual release times of 243 movies released during 2015–2022. We find that the optimal release time increases with ad revenue proportion, broadband penetration, and piracy rate, whereas the optimal fee reduces non-linearly with release time and depends on OTT’s risk profile. Our findings also indicate that the optimal release time reduces for movies that do not provide any additional utility for theater goers, and as customers’ preference towards OTT increases. Abstract: A cross-sector survey study was conducted between 2004 and 2005 among 121 software firms that adopted internet computing for the presence of strong order effects, which explain how, why and in which order radical innovations in information system (IS) are adopted. The following strong order effects were detected: (1) the amount of base innovations positively and directly influenced the amount of service innovation and the amount of process innovation, while the amount of service innovation partially mediates the impact of base innovation on process innovation; (2) the radicalness of base innovations directly and positively influences the radicalness of service innovation, while the impact of the radicalness of the base innovation on the radicalness of process innovations is fully mediated by the radicalness of service innovation; (3) the predominant sequence of initial adoption of radical information technology innovations is first in base innovations, followed by service innovations and finally by process innovations. Our study helps to better understand how and why radical innovations are adopted in ensembles by software firms. In consequence, software organizations should orchestrate flexible innovation strategies that recognize that radical innovations are interconnected and heterogeneous. Collapse

Abstract: The perception that small size may no longer be an economic disadvantage to either organizations or countries has become fairly widespread. We share the perception that not only are small countries not at a disadvantage, but they may actually have an advantage over larger competitors with regard to information technology industries. Indeed, small developed countries are achieving considerable success in the development of their information technology industries. The three countries studied here--Israel, New Zealand, and Singapore--are among those that have seen the rapid development of their IT industries in recent years, despite the fact that they are among the world's smaller countries, are considerably different in many geographic, cultural, and political respects, and are geographically dispersed around the globe. The objective of this study is to describe and compare the information technology industries of these three small developed countries. All three countries, with no inherent advantages in raw materials and only small domestic markets, have the IT infrastructure and the human skills needed. They are nimble and flexible and can find niche markets in which to specialize. Not all three, however, have developed IT industries to the same degree. There could be factors specific to small developed countries that facilitate the development of indigenous IT production. The dominant factor that seems to provide some explanation for different levels and directions of development of IT production is government policy in promoting IT production directly, in supporting IT industry R&D, and in education policies designed to provide appropriately trained labor pools.
