Abstract: Because AI has distinct abilities that enable the automation of tasks that usually require human intelligence, it can affect various emotions ranging from excitement about efficiency gains to the fear of being replaced. At the same time, emotions constitute key drivers of employee behavior and thus may determine whether and how AI users collaborate with AI. We raise the question of what AI users consider important in the light of human-AI collaboration and how these aspects relate to their emotional attitudes towards this technology. We address this research question by collecting longitudinal data regarding the AI implementation in three companies. We use qualitative coding to identify important aspects of human-AI collaboration from semi-structured interviews conducted at different stages of the AI implementation. Moreover, we use voice analysis to measure the interviewees' emotional state while speaking about different aspects of human-AI collaboration. Collapse

Abstract: Although recent theoretical developments and empirical studies indicate that technology-related stress may have negative and positive consequences for employees across life domains, the majority of previous IS research on technostress has focused on its downsides at work and has neglected to study how and why technology-related stress may spill over from work to home. Furthermore, while much of our knowledge of technology-related stress and its effects derives from cross-sectional studies examining between-person differences, there is a need for longitudinal, daily investigations that take a within-person view. Integrating the challenge–hindrance stressor framework with affective events theory and work–home spillover literature, we propose a broader conceptualization of technology-related stressors, referred to as technology-driven (TD) stressors, which comprise technology-driven challenge (TCS) and hindrance (THS)stressors, and examine how and why daily TCS and THS experienced at work affect the relationship between employees and their partners at home. In an experience sampling study of 115 employees who responded to daily surveys both at work and at home over a two-week period, we found that while THS are negatively related to partnership satisfaction via negative affect, TCS are positively related to partnership satisfaction via positive affect. We also investigated the moderating effect of work–home role integration (WHI) and perceived organizational support in work–home boundary management (POS) on the strength of the within-individual spillover processes. Our results show that WHI acts as a double-edged sword forletting TCS- and THS-triggered positive and negative affect spill over to partnership satisfaction, whereas POS serves as a facilitator of positive affect and as a buffer against negative affect. Broadly, our study shows that understanding daily TD work stressors is important because their negative and positive downstream effects often do not stop at employees’ workplace boundaries but actually penetrate and shape their everyday lives at home. Abstract: Drawing from social exchange theory, this research develops a mediated-moderation model that examines the direct and indirect effects of participation in fun activities on three knowledge management behaviors (i.e., knowledge sharing, knowledge hiding, knowledge manipulating) and investigates the mediating role of positive affect and the moderating role of citizenship pressure on these relationships. A three-wave, twosource sample (n = 163) of employees belonging to a high-tech start-up in Canada is used to test this model. Results highlight the importance of positive affect by showing the effects of participation in fun activities on knowledge management behaviors is dependent on whether or not participation in fun activities leads to positive affect. Data also shows citizenship pressure moderates the direct relationship between participation in fun activities and knowledge manipulating, as well as the indirect relationship between participation in fun activities and both knowledge sharing and hiding. These results highlight the theoretical and practical importance of both positive affect and citizenship pressure in understanding the dynamic relationship between workplace fun and knowledge management. Abstract: Security research on the employees’ expressive motives in committing computer-related deviant behavior is limited. In this research, drawing on the appraisal tendency framework (ATF), we examine how employees’ emotions (anger vs. fear) and perceived sanctions influence their computer-related deviant behaviors in the workplace. Our empirical results show that employees who experienced anger were more likely to commit computer-related deviant behavior mediated by perceived informal sanctions. In contrast, employees who experienced fear were less likely to commit computer-related deviant behavior mediated by perceived formal and informal sanctions. The results provide important guidance for organizations to improve the effectiveness of deterrent controls. Collapse

Abstract: To better understand how positive and negative emotion influences the intention to use software applications, we introduce two affective constructs namely core affective experience and negative affectivity to the UTAUT (unified theory of adoption and use of technology). We first conducted a pilot study in a lab setting to replicate the UTAUT and the results are encouraging. We then conduced two more lab studies with inexperience and experience users, respectively. The results of the proposed affective augmentation of UTAUT are promising. The proposed relationships between the core affective experience (i.e., activation and pleasantness) and intention to use is significant, similarly the proposed relationship between negative affectivity is also significant. Furthermore, bringing core affective experience into the model makes UTAUT more robust. Collapse

Abstract: We conceptualized security-related stress (SRS) and proposed a theoretical model linking SRS, discrete emotions, coping response, and information security policy (ISP) compliance. We used an experience sampling design, wherein 138 professionals completed surveys. We observed that SRS had a positive association with frustration and fatigue, and these negative emotions were associated with neutralization of ISP violations. Additionally, frustration and fatigue make employees more likely to follow through on their rationalizations of ISP violations by decreased ISP compliance. Our findings provide evidence that neutralization is not a completely stable phenomenon but can vary within individuals from one time point to another. Collapse

Abstract: Information systems security behavioral research has primarily focused on individual cognitive processes and their impact on information security policy noncompliance. However, affective processes (operationalized by affective absorption and affective flow) may also significantly contribute to misuse or information security policy noncompliance. Our research study evaluated the impact of affective absorption (i.e., the trait or disposition to allow one's emotions to drive decisionmaking) and affective flow (i.e., a state of immersion with one's emotions) on cognitive processes in the context of attitude toward and compliance with information security policies. Our conceptual model was evaluated using a laboratory research design. We found that individuals who were frustrated by work-related tasks experienced negative affective flow and violated information security policies. Furthermore, perceptions of organizational injustice increased negative affective flow. Our findings underscore the need for understanding affective processes as well as cognitive processes which may lead to a more holistic understanding regarding information security policy compliance. Abstract: To understand how recipients respond to radical change over time across cognitive, affective, and behavioral dimensions, we conducted a longitudinal study of a mandated language change at a Chilean subsidiary of a large U.S. multinational organization. The engineering-focused subsidiary aiming to facilitate cross-border interactions embedded language-acquisition experts to transition all employees from Spanish to English full time. We gathered survey data and objective fluency scores from the language change recipients at five points over a period of two years. Using variable- and person-centered exploratory analyses, our results suggest that recipients’ negative affective responses to the language change precede their cognitive responses or self-efficacy, predicting their current language learning. Further, we find that recipients’ cognitive and affective responses over time differentially influence two future behavioral outcomes: intention to leave the organization and willingness to adopt the change. Although cognitive rather than affective responses over time drive recipients’ intentions to leave, affective responses influence recipients’ willingness to adopt English. Finally, we show that change recipients followed three trajectories of cognitive responses and two trajectories of affective responses over time. We discuss theoretical and practical implications to the literature on organizational change, emotions, and language in global organizations. Collapse

Abstract: The successful accomplishment of information systems development (ISD) activities is reliant on the eﬀorts of developers, who are largely responsible for creating the required system artefacts. Developers encounter numerous obstacles in their eﬀorts to successfully complete activities, such as the need to develop software within highly-complex broad-ranging projects. These problems increase levels of stress, which subsequently aﬀect developers’ ability to self-regulate their feelings and understanding. However, only scant attention has been paid to their personal skills and competency in overcoming these issues. This study therefore aimed to bridge this gap by exploring the impact of developers’ emotional intelligence on stress, trust, and performance. Our empirical results show that emotional intelligence mitigates stress and fosters trust among software developers working on information system projects. Additionally, role ambiguity increases the eﬀect of stress on performance. Collapse
