Abstract: The fish farming industry is one of the fastest-growing industries and will be one of the most important businesses in the future. However, more salmon than ever died prematurely in Norway in 2021, mainly due to disease and lice treatments. To improve this situation, sharing data related to lice is crucial. However, to facilitate data sharing, a platform for storing data, data comparability, and trustworthy relationships must be secured. Sharing data poses challenges that require proper governance. Based on a longitudinal, qualitative case study of a collaborative platform ecosystem in the Norwegian aquaculture industry, we identify governance mechanisms that enable data sharing and develop a model for the gradual maturation of data sharing. Our insights from a collaborative platform ecosystem within a traditional industry complement the extant research, mainly focused on centralized platform ecosystems. We also provide guidance for practitioners who want to enable data sharing in their ecosystems. Collapse

Abstract: The world is confronted with the grand challenge of food insecurity amidst growing populations and the climate crisis. Artificial intelligence (AI) deployed in agricultural decision support systems (AgriDSS) raises both hopes and concerns for increasing agricultural productivity in sustainable ways. We conduct a scoping review to uncover the roadblocks to the use of AI-supported AgriDSS in sustainable agriculture. Based on the corpus of 121 articles, we find that the effective use of AI-supported AgriDSS is hindered at technical, social, ethical, and ecological levels. Then, drawing on the experiential learning perspective, we propose how conjoint experiential learning (CEL) can enhance sustainable agricultural practices by enhancing both AI and human learning and overcoming roadblocks in using AgriDSS. Based on this conceptual framework, we build a research agenda that suggests blind spots and possible directions for future research. Collapse

Abstract: In this paper, we investigate the development of standards for technologies and work practices in a digital platform ecosystem. Standards are needed for technical and organizational compatibility across the actors’ different systems, technologies, data, and business processes. However, little is known about how actors achieve common standards in collaborative ecosystems where a clear platform leader is missing. Based on a longitudinal, qualitative case study of a digital platform ecosystem within the Norwegian aquaculture industry, we examined how the actors collaborated on building a digital platform ecosystem with the aim of fighting sea lice on salmon through standardization. We contribute to research and practice by providing a preliminary framework of four institutional work practices for standardization in digital ecosystems and three key lessons learned for guidance for practitioners. Abstract: Digital technologies have made a significant impact in agriculture, helping farmers access information from a wide range of markets and get better prices for their products. In particular, aquaculture and shrimp culture are some of the fastest-growing agricultural sub-sectors providing food for the world's growing population. The shrimp supply chain in developing countries like India is not efficient and hence unsustainable. The main challenge in aquaculture is the uncertainty found in all stages, including supply, production and distribution. Our study seeks to address the following questions: what are the sources of information inefficiency in the shrimp supply chain? How could a service dominant-logic view of the shrimp farming supply chain inform digitally-enabled innovation in a developing country context? The core contribution of this work is a framework theoretically informed by service-dominant logic and information requirements of the key stakeholders. Abstract: Environmental Decision Support Systems (EDSS) constitute an important emerging technology for the management of marine environments and resources world-wide. A requirement for such systems is the provision of accurate and comprehensive data on marine animal populations and habitats. Underwater video is increasing in importance as a technology for collecting this data, but manual analysis of the video is time-consuming and subjective, and so automated techniques need to be developed before video technology becomes effective as a major data collection method for EDSS. A central requirement in many applications is the automated detection of specific marine animals in the video footage. Our aim is to develop a range of techniques for detecting marine animals in underwater video scenes and, as a starting point, we have developed a segmentation technique to automatically detect salmon depicted in images taken from video cameras placed in fish farm cages. Abstract: Convergence of technologies in the Internet and the field of expert systems have offered new ways of sharing and distributing knowledge. However, there has been a general lack of research in the area of web-based expert systems (ES). This paper addresses the issues associated with the design, development, and use of web-based ES from a standpoint of the benefits and challenges of developing and using them. The original theory and concepts in conventional ES were reviewed and a knowledge engineering framework for developing them was revisited. The study considered three web-based ES: WITS-advisor — for e-business strategy development, Fish-Expert — for fish disease diagnosis, and IMIS — to promote intelligent interviews. The benefits and challenges in developing and using ES are discussed by comparing them with traditional standalone systems from development and application perspectives. Collapse

Abstract: An algorithm is put forward to conduct status quo analysis when preference uncertainty exists for at least one decision maker (DM) in a strategic conflict. This research integrates into a unified framework two recent expansions of the graph model for conflict resolution, preference uncertainty and status quo analysis. Both of these developments enhance the applicability of the graph model, preference uncertainty by accommodating uncertainty in DMs' preferences and status quo analysis by addressing the dynamics of conflict. The combination of preference uncertainty and status quo analysis improves the flexibility of the graph model in both modelling and analysis. A new model of an environmental conflict is analyzed to demonstrate how the new algorithm can be applied. Collapse
