Abstract: Understanding student sentiment plays a vital role in understanding the changes that could or should be made in curriculum design at university. Learning Analytics (LA) has shown potential for improving student learning experiences and supporting teacher inquiry. Yet, there is limited research that reports on the adoption and actual use of LA to support teacher inquiry. This four-year longitudinal study captures sentiment of postgraduate students at a university in Ireland, by integrating LA with the steps of teacher inquiry. This study makes three important contributions to teaching and learning literature. First, it reports on the use of LA to support teacher inquiry over four one-year cycles of a Master of Science in Business Analytics programme between 2016 and 2020. Second, it provides evidence-based recommendations on how to optimise LA to support teacher inquiry, with specific attention as to how these can improve the assimilation of LA into the curriculum design and delivery. Third, the paper concludes with a research agenda to help improve the adoption and integration of LA in the future. Collapse

Abstract: Digital markets have proliferated in recent years, overcoming many market inefficiencies by facilitating direct interactions between consumers and creators. Thanks to this disintermediation, consumers now have access to a vast number of alternatives, while creators can efficiently reach huge markets. However, the success of digital markets has created a concomitant challenge for creators: differentiation. In crowded markets, agencies (e.g., publishing companies in books, freelance agencies in online labor markets, independent labels in music) can differentiate creators by signaling product quality. But how do agencies' reputations affect product success for creators? Can some agencies do more harm than good? To investigate these research questions, we theorize how variation in creator and agency reputation leads to asymmetric and heterogeneous effects, namely that (1) more reputable agencies have a stronger positive effect on less reputable creators than they have on more reputable creators, and (2) less reputable agencies hurt more reputable creators more than they hurt less reputable ones. Analyses of more than one million observations from two digital markets provide empirical support for these theory-driven arguments. The findings have design implications for markets and contribute to our understanding of how agencies, depending on creator reputation, can either benefit or hurt product success.Marios Kokkodis is a machine learning scientist working on personalization, recommender systems, and markets. Abstract: Knowledge management (KM) impacts have typically been examined on the value of knowledge to organizations but not individuals. This paper uses survey data (186 employees) and qualitative data (300 + employees) at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to examine the effects of four KM mechanisms (social learning, learning from others through IT, learning from IT, and IT-based knowledge substitution) and common knowledge on the individual and organizational value of knowledge. The results indicate that common knowledge and the two interpersonal mechanisms (social learning, learning from others through IT) enhance the perceived value of knowledge at both levels, but both mechanisms that rely on IT for the knowledge (learning from IT, IT-based knowledge substitution) reduce the perceived knowledge value at one level and have no significant effect at the other level. Further, common knowledge strengthens the positive effects of both interpersonal mechanisms, and weakens the negative effects of IT-based knowledge substitution, on perceived value of knowledge at both levels. Abstract: We developed a theoretical model of how leadership style and organizational learning culture impact ERP assimilation and tested this model with data collected from organizations that have used ERP systems for at least 1year. We found that the influence of transformational leadership on organizational learning was strong but mediated by the learning culture and that of transactional leadership on organizational learning was weak but direct. These results offer new perspectives on ERP assimilation theory and provide guidance for top management to exercise specific leadership behavior to achieve ERP assimilation and long-term ERP success. Abstract: Agile software development methodologies represent a departure from the heavy document-driven procedures of plan-driven approaches. As organizations continue to adopt agile methodologies, understanding the factors that influence the routinization of agile is a growing concern. In recent years, researchers have focused their attention to the issues of post-adoptive agile use in order to extend our knowledge on agile assimilation. However, little research has been conducted to expose the assimilation gaps that occur as organizations seek to increase the extent and intensity of their agile use. Following prior literature, our objective is to articulate a model that explains the impact of organizational culture and structure on the routinization of agile methods. Abstract: In this research we studied the assimilation process of a technological innovation (i.e. technovation) called Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). Like many other technovations, RFID is considered as a revolutionary one, but its assimilation is an evolutionary process. Here, we extended the conventional assimilation theories and initiated an intellectual argument by introducing extension as an important stage of assimilation, which is contextual and highly relevant for RFID assimilation process. Data for the empirical tests were collected via survey from 221 livestock farms in Australia that are using RFID for livestock identification and tracing. We examined ten Technology-Organization-Environmental (TOE) factors on four stages of RFID assimilation process. Empirical results, based on Partial Least Square (PLS)-based Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), suggest that assimilation of RFID technovation does involve four stages: initiation, adoption, routinization, and extension. We also found that one single factor may have different effect on different stages of assimilation, which may even be different directioned. For instance, external environmental uncertainty has a positive impact on RFID adoption while it has a negative impact on RFID extension. Abstract: This study goes beyond a binary view of adoption and instead examines the more complex nature of cloud computing assimilation. It examines (i) acceptance, the extent to which an organization’s members are committed to the adoption, (ii) routinization, the extent to which the use of cloud becomes a normal activity, and (iii) infusion, the extent to which more features of the cloud are used than originally planned, the extent to which use is sophisticated, and the extent to which use is emergent. Drawing on three case studies, this study will contribute to the existing cloud technologies literature that does not address the complex and multi-faceted nature of adoption. Secondly, it will provide an insight into cloud computing adoption by focusing on the benefits and challenges associated with implementation in organizations. Thirdly, we also seek to develop a set of recommended practices for overcoming such barriers to adoption. Collapse

Abstract: Agile method use in information systems development (ISD) has grown dramatically in recent years. The emergence of these alternative approaches was very much industry-led at the outset, and while agile method research is growing, the vast majority of these studies are descriptive and often lack a strong theoretical and conceptual base. Insights from innovation adoption research can provide a new perspective on analysing agile method use. This paper is based on an exploratory study of the application of the innovation assimilation stages to understand the use of agile practices, focusing in particular on the later stages of assimilation, namely acceptance, routinisation and infusion. Four case studies were conducted, and based on the case study findings, the concepts of acceptance, routinisation and infusion were adapted and applied to agile software development. These adapted concepts were used to glean interesting insights into agile practice use. For example, it was shown that the period of use of agile practices does not have a proportional effect on their assimilation depths. We also reflected on the sequential assumption underlying the assimilation stages, showing that adopting teams do not always move through the assimilation stages in a linear manner. Collapse

Abstract: Financial institutions are exposed to a highly dynamic environment that is characterized by an intense competition and short technological hype cycles. Against this background, the assimilation of ondemand computing infrastructures as particularly Grid and Cloud computing can be assumed to be a potential strategic response to address fast changing market and technological demand as well as to comply with arising mimetic pressure between competitors. So far, little empirical research has been conducted to assess the influence of environmental dynamics on the assimilation process of ondemand computing infrastructures. Grounded in the Technology-Organization-Environment framework, this article proposes a holistic perspective emphasizing the environmental determinants of Grid assimilation for the asset management process and analyzes its consequences for IT value generation. The derived hypotheses were tested based on 103 responses from senior IT decision makers of financial services providers that have already adopted Grid technology for their asset management process. The results from partial least squares analyses indicate that in particular environmental dynamics determine the assimilation of Grid-based infrastructures. Our results contribute to IS assimilation theory by integrating environmental dynamics into the TechnologyOrganization-Environment framework. Collapse

Abstract: Organizational responsiveness is a critical factor for success of any business. It requires business organizations to understand and respond to changes in its external and internal environment. As a consequence, organizations are required to create a dynamic internal environment. This dynamism is built around exchanging information and ideas relating to business sustainability, progress, and growth. Social technologies like web 2.0 are, therefore, becoming more popular among contemporary businesses. These technologies are evolving at an increasing pace, which brings about many technological and non-technological considerations for organizations interested adopting them. These are social technologies and their implementation and usage need to be socially composed. This composition requires challenging the status quo and inviting workforce to embrace change by legitimizing and institutionalizing these technologies. Institutionalisation of information technologies is a nonlinear process. It is dependent upon various technical, social, and organizational sub-institutions of the organization, which themselves evolve in response to isomorphic pressures. The aim of this paper is to facilitate the diffusion and usage of web 2.0 technologies in organizations by suggesting a research framework.
