Abstract: Design science research, a well-established research approach to solving complex real-world problems, has evolved over time. This research characterizes design science research in information systems. By performing a bibliometric analysis, we show that design science research has progressed in the information systems field through three main phases, which we call periods of inquiry. A co-citation analysis shows that the progression has been largely influenced by a few main pioneering studies, leading to three schools of thought. Bibliographic coupling analysis suggests that research in design science can be classified into several distinct intellectual areas corresponding to different research themes. This bibliometric analysis proposes a broad viewpoint of design science and design research, serving as a basis for shaping further research. Collapse

Abstract: Social Cyber-attacks such as propaganda, conspiracy theories, anger, and hate discourse are very old phenomena that inflict harm to humans, organizations, national security, public officials, democratization efforts, careers, and policies. There have been significant efforts to identify anti-US speech on social media which includes propaganda. Such efforts largely ignore the attempts by other countries to manipulate social media in some regions including the Middle East. Research in this area is computational and solely focuses on fine tuning language models to detect general propaganda attacks. This paper addresses a new category of propaganda attacks that are tied to state-linked accounts that spread anti-US propaganda by taking advantages of specific geo-political crises in the Middle East. We investigated the role of general language models and training data to detect those forms of propaganda. Our study concludes that existing propaganda training data is unable to successfully detect targeted propaganda. We propose a contextualized span detection approach to identify these types of propaganda and show that our targeted training models work significantly better compared to the existing general propaganda detection approaches. Abstract: A considerable number of contributions at the intersection of social media platforms and social entrepreneurship has been witnessed over the past decade. The multi-disciplinary nature of current literature necessitates inte­ grative insights on the topic. We thus undertake a two-pronged approach – bibliometric analysis followed by systematic review – to map the extant literature in a structured, objective, and quantitative way. We contribute to the literature as we (i) offer a classification of the literature in three clusters, namely ‘social media platforms, social collaboration and social marketing’, ‘social media platforms and crowdfunding, and ‘social media plat­ forms and crowdsourcing’; (ii) analyze recent research development in each cluster, methodological develop­ ment, countries co-authorship and evolution of research in the area; and (iii) propose a conceptual framework -accompanied by research propositions- that provides an overview of the literature at the intersection of social media platforms, various social entrepreneurial practices and their influence on the social enterprise perfor­ mance. Our review culminates with numerous impactful research avenues for scholarly progression in the area. From a practical standpoint, this review integrates scattered findings into one body, allowing the practitioners and policymakers to discern the role of social media platforms in dealing with emerging societal problems and increasing operational efficiencies of social enterprises (SEs). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first review of its kind, offering unique perspectives at the nexus of social media platforms and SE’s performance. Collapse

Abstract: Accountability is crucial to make stakeholders of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based systems justify their actions, thereby explaining the harm such systems cause to AI users. Due to the importance of accountability in the context of AI, accountability was introduced into IS research through literature reviews. Therefore, while IS research's understanding of accountability covers the necessary depth, it comes at the expense of its essential breadth. Using a bibliometric analysis with 19,978 English-language papers, we shed light on the essential breadth posing three W-and one H-questions (When, What, Whereof, and How). Therefore, we contribute to IS research by highlighting the urgent need to revise existing definitions of accountability in the context of AI and establish them in IS research. We argue that a missing revision leads to non-transferrable findings within IS research. Accordingly, this study serves as a starting point for adapting definitions and creating a shared understanding in IS research. Collapse

Abstract: Despite the large number of systematic literature reviews (SLRs) on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for service delivery, scholars suggest more scientific evidence. However, the direction that these reviews will take depends on the knowledge accumulated in the existing literature. Therefore, the objective of this research is to explore SLRs that have synthesized the use of AI for service delivery. We conducted a tertiary study, which consists of a bibliometric analysis of SLRs. We searched SLRs published over the last ten years in six bibliographic databases. Sixty-six studies meeting the inclusion criteria were processed through a bibliometric analysis in which we combined article metadata with data extracted from the full-text review. The results describe the publication trends of SLRs, their application domains, and the particularities of the private and public sectors. Recommendations for future SLRs on the use of AI for service delivery are proposed. Collapse

Abstract: This study examines the literary corpus on the role and potential of blockchain technology in promoting gender equality through the lens of new technology-oriented corporate governance models. It investigates if and how corporate governance models can include blockchain technology to add value to gender equality and inclusion processes, in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5. A bibliometric analysis of a database—containing 127 articles, 4 United Nations reports, 3 European institutions’ reports, 1 International Labour Office report, 1 World Economic Forum report, and 4 industry reports useful to our analysis—was conducted from 1990 to 2021, to provide a map of the knowledge generated and circulated by the literature. This study offers insights into publication activities, essential topics, citation trends, and the status of collaborations between contributors to previous research and aggregated contributions to the area of blockchain technology studies. Furthermore, the study offers a retrospective analysis of the content published in the blockchain technology field. The findings indicate that field research has focussed primarily on blockchain’s economic and financial attributes but not on social potential. This study emphasises the implementation of blockchain technology to manage gender equality and inclusion processes by orienting corporate governance models towards social and sustainable values. Abstract: With the unparallel advance of leading-edge technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), the healthcare systems are transforming and shifting for more digital health. In recent years, scientific productions have reached unprecedented levels. However, a holistic view of how AI is being used for digital health remains scarce. Besides, there is a considerable lack of studies on responsible AI and ethical issues that identify and suggest practitioners’ essential insights towards the digital health domain. Therefore, we aim to rely on a bibliometric approach to explore the dynamics of the interplay between AI and digital health approaches, considering the responsible AI and ethical aspects of scientific production over the years. We found four distinct periods in the publication dynamics and the most popular approaches of AI in the healthcare field. Also, we highlighted the main trends and insightful directions for scholars and practitioners. In terms of contributions, this work provides a framework integrating AI technologies approaches and applications while discussing several barriers and benefits of AI-based health. In addition, five insightful propositions emerged as a result of the main findings. Thus, this study’s originality is regarding the new framework and the propositions considering responsible AI and ethical issues on digital health. Collapse

Abstract: Digital trace data offer promising opportunities to study dynamics and change of various sociotechnical phenomena over time. While we see a surge of empirical and conceptual articles, we lack a systematic understanding of why, how, and when digital trace data are or can be used to study dynamics and change. In this article, we present the findings of a systematic literature review to uncover common approaches, motivations, findings, and general themes in the existing literature. We systematically reviewed 40 studies that were published in premium outlets in the information systems field. Our review sheds light on (1) underlying purposes of such studies, (2) utilized data sources, (3) research contexts, (4) socio-technical phenomena of interest, (5) applied analytical methods, and (6) measures that are being used. Building on our findings, we point to several implications for research and shed light on avenues to advance this field in the future. Collapse

Abstract: Being part of a digital societies requires a "digital mindset". But what exactly is a digital mindset? There are many answers that have not really been systematized. A related area where systematization already started is Computational Thinking (CT): a branch of pedagogy that catalogued the capabilities necessary to live in a digitized and technology-driven world. CT is defined as a general problem-solving competence based on abstraction, algorithmic-thinking, problem-decomposition, pattern-recognition, and evaluation. Researchers promote CT as a 21 st century skills important for everyone. Aim of our article is to reveal the relevance of CT as complement to IS-research in the creation of a digital mindset. We conducted a computational and qualitative literature review using quantitative bibliometric-citation analysis. From the analysis, we derive an integrative framework to identify how IS-research could profit from teaching, and applying CT, as a competence in the digital transformation of their discipline.
