Abstract: The ongoing energy transition increases the share of renewable energy sources. To combat inherent intermittency of RES, increasing system flexibility forms a major opportunity. One way to provide flexibility is demand response (DR). Research already reflects several approaches of artificial intelligence (AI) for DR. However, these approaches often lack considerations concerning their applicability, i.e., necessary input data. To help putting these algorithms into practice, the objective of this paper is to analyze, how input data requirements of AI approaches in the field of DR can be systematized from a practice-oriented information systems perspective. Therefore, we develop a taxonomy consisting of eight dimensions encompassing 30 characteristics. Our taxonomy contributes to research by illustrating how future AI approaches in the field of DR should represent their input data requirements. For practitioners, our developed taxonomy adds value as a structuring tool, e.g., to verify applicability with respect to input data requirements. Collapse

Abstract: Even the most unforeseen objects can be digitally transformed, requiring a tailored approach to each sector of the economy. This paper presents a year-long design science research to create a smart product-service system (SPSS) in the traditional industry of ceramic roof tiles. Our study describes the challenges of incorporating interactivity and data processing e-services into traditional materials for construction. This case also reveals the importance of multifaceted SPSS strategies to address the concerns of: (1) the end users; (2) the supply chain of the smart ecosystem; and (3) the producer, including the option to implement SPSS(aaS) as a service. To remain competitive, traditional industries must develop innovative strategies to gradually incorporate SPSS in their market offer. Nevertheless, the level of disruptiveness of the SPSS proposal depends on the synergies produced by the joint redesign of physical and digital materialities. Collapse

Abstract: The Internet of Things (IoT) brings with it promises of smart cities with improved efficiency, increased transparency, and enhanced public services. However, few studies have empirically and systematically investigated the reasoning behind the decision to adopt IoT within municipal organizations. In this paper we study the adoption and diffusion of IoT in Swedish municipalities. We outline areas of application and perceived value creation and conclude that the main reasons for adoption and diffusion can be traced back to 1) the simplicity of the IoT solution, and 2) clear incentives. Among the municipalities that have not embraced IoT, commonly cited barriers are economic factors and that other, more politically charged, issues take priority. This paper extends our understanding of public sector perception of IoT, as well as provides a comprehensive outlook on drivers for IoT-adoption. Collapse

Abstract: Outsourcing relationship quality (ORQ) has shown to be an important construct in previous research on outsourcing effectiveness. But, while there are various works that have conceptualized and operationalized ORQ as a rich and multi-dimensional construct, other studies which consider ORQ as (usually mediating) component of their theoretical models make hardly use of those works but often use less rich constructs. The research on hand attempts bridging the gap between those two groups of works. A multi-dimensional ORQ construct is used to evaluate the relative importance of different ORQ dimensions, such as commitment, trust, etc., in regard to different dimensions of outsourcing success (overall satisfaction, goal achievement, service quality). For example, while many studies use trust as proxy for ORQ, our study shows that, depending on the outcome variable, other ORQ dimensions might be more relevant and should be used instead or additionally. Thus, the main contribution is identifying those ORQ dimensions which are most relevant regarding different outsourcing success variables. Future studies on outsourcing success factors will have a better ground to argue for or against using certain ORQ dimensions in their studies. Moreover, the study sensitizes managers for different distinct ORQ dimensions and their importance for a successful outsourcing relationship. Collapse

Abstract: This article presents a review of the research on Building Information Modeling (BIM) in construction, with the aim of identifying areas in this domain where IS research can contribute. The concept of BIM comprises an infrastructure of IT tools supporting collaborative and integrated design, assembly, and operation of buildings. This integrated construction approach, with all stakeholders editing or retrieving information from commonly shared models, requires major changes to well-established processes, organizational roles, contractual practices, and collaborative arrangements in the construction industry. Through a review of 264 research articles on BIM, we found that this research spans a wide area of technological and organizational topics, of which many have a clear resonance to focal areas in IS research. Our analysis shows that IS, to some extent, serves as a reference discipline and that theories used in IS research are also informing contemporary BIM research. The following areas in need of further IS research were identified: studies on the relationship between BIM's functional affordance and human agency, adoption and use of BIM for inter-organizational collaboration, the influence of organizational culture on BIM practices, the capabilities of BIM for transforming industry practice, and identifying the business value of BIM. Considering that a well-established knowledge base in IS research can be drawn upon for studying these issues, combined with the exciting potential of BIM for transforming a major industry such as building construction, we conclude that BIM is an area ripe for IS research.Buildings are typically one-off products made specifically to a customer's order, and the construction is executed as project-based work. Traditionally, construction design services are delivered by multiple organizations where each party prepares a set of paper drawings covering their area of expertise. Design services to construction projects are provided by architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, plumbing and ventilation engineers, landscape architects, construction firms, and specialized subcontractors, among others. This practice implies that, for simple construction projects, hundreds of paper drawings are produced. These paper drawings are traditionally managed and distributed by the respective contractor's site management.Virtual modeling technologies became applicable for the AEC industry in the late 1990s. Abstract: This paper discusses the evaluation of Meeting Support Systems (MSS). More specifically, it tackles the problem of evaluating the perceived organizational value of these systems and in what extent they fit with other information systems and also other organizational dimensions. MSS lay down one sub area of research crossing Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) and information systems. Based on these multiple perspectives, we developed an evaluation grid for MSS. The evaluation grid identifies several MSS components as well as different levels of organizational impact. Our hypothesis is that with this grid it is possible to analyze and evaluate the organizational, group and individual impact of MSS.
