Abstract: As software becomes increasingly complex, there is a growing need to enhance quality assurance in software engineering. However, the lack of qualified human resources is a barrier to performing software testing activities in software companies. At the same time, software testing can be considered a tedious task and is often not done at the necessary level of detail, e.g., designing test cases. However, it is crucial for novice programmers and testers to acquire and improve their testing competencies, and to utilize testing techniques, e.g., black-box testing. Teaching software testing is often based on theoretical instructions, resulting in limited practical experience. As a result, students may not develop the necessary testing mindset, highlighting the need for more extensive software testing education. To address this issue, this paper utilizes a design science research approach to implement a gamified learning system that promotes black-box testing competencies with empirical insights from a field test. Abstract: The wealth of digitized data forms the fundamental basis for the disruptive impact of Machine Learning. Yet a significant amount of data is scattered and locked in data silos, leaving its full potential untouched. Federated Machine Learning is a novel Machine Learning paradigm with the ability to overcome data silos by enabling the training of Machine Learning models on decentralized, potentially siloed data. Despite its advantages, most Federated Machine Learning projects fail in the project initiation phase due to their decentralized structure and incomprehensive interrelations. The current literature lacks a comprehensible overview of the complex project structure. Through a Design Science Research approach, we provide a process model of a Federated Machine Learning life cycle including required activities, roles, resources, artifacts, and interrelations. Thereby, we aim to aid practitioners in the project initiation phase by providing transparency and facilitating comprehensibility over the entire project life cycle. Collapse

Abstract: Continuous service certification (CSC) recently emerged as a promising means to provide ongoing assurances and disrupt pertinent certification approaches. CSC involves the consistent gathering and assessing of certification-relevant data by certification authorities about service operation to validate ongoing adherence to certification criteria. While research on CSC is increasing, practitioners still struggle in transferring researchers' suggestions and guidelines into practice. This study provides a tentative design and a prototype of a monitoring-based service certification (MSC) system based on the novel ChatOps approach. Iterative evaluations support our propositions that ChatOps' three key elements, a chat platform, chatbots, and third-party integrations, support the achievement of CSC. We contribute to research and practice by proving the technical feasibility of an MSC system, guiding future research and practitioners on achieving monitoring-based CSC, and validate the applicability and usefulness of extant guidelines on monitoring-based CSC proposed by prior research. Abstract: Cloud computing, financial incentive and patient-centered care are the game changers that deepen EHR diffusion beyond breadth. Based on the innovation diffusion theory (IDT), technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework and alignment literature, this study examines how these changes shape business requirement, service value and society need that drive different phases of EHR diffusion in terms of planning, adoption, usage and upgrade. A longitudinal analysis with the USA National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS) reveals the impacts of different drivers on EHR diffusion. In addition to quantitative results, interview observations corroborate the relationships among game changers, decision drivers and EHR diffusion. The findings provide healthcare providers, system vendors and policy-makers the insights on the best practices of promoting EHR diffusion for long-term success. Collapse

Abstract: Peripheral artery disease (PAD) main symptom is intermittent claudication, causing pain and limiting the walking abilities of patients, forcing individuals to temporarily stop walking. One treatment advised to counteract the effects of this disease is the practice of physical exercise with monitoring. Currently the monitored exercise programs are applied at the hospital, so some patients have to travel long distances three times a week, with high costs and low adherence of the patients. This paper presents the cocreation process of a mobile application for quantified supervised home-based exercise therapy on PAD patients. The study aimed to design a solution adapted to users’ needs, which collects the necessary information for the therapy supervision by health professionals. The users’ behaviour with the application allowed the assessment to a set of limitations and potential sources of noise in the supervision data that suggest the evolution to a pervasive solution, by minimizing, or even eliminating, the interaction with the users. The developed tool is a first step towards the creation of a technological ecosystem for the prescription of supervised therapeutic physical exercise, which leverages self-care and allows access to this type of therapy to the entire population. Cardiovascular disease represents a considerable economic burden to society, therefore effective preventive measures are necessary. Collapse

Abstract: The fundamental goal of a revocable biometric system is to defend a user’s biometrics from being compromised. This research explores the application of deep learning or Convolutional Neural Networks to multi-instance biometrics. Modality features are transformed into revocable templates through the application of random projection. During the user authentication phase, we employ Support Vector Machines, chosen over three other alternative classifiers after carrying out a comparative study. Comparison of the proposed method over other standard deep learning models and performance evaluation before and after revocability have also been discussed. Results demonstrate ability to improve identification accuracy and provide sound template security. The system was validated on three multi-instance iris and fingervein databases. Collapse

Abstract: Information systems (IS) research has continued to consistently evolve with the transitions in the IS discipline over time. There has been a general interest in the IS discipline over time as researchers have examined various aspects such as the intellectual core, diversity, and impact of IS research. On the basis of 2962 articles published in six leading IS journals between 2003 and 2017, topic modeling using latent semantic indexing was applied to author-supplied keywords. Topics such as IS development, IT adoption, and IS usage had endured over time; topics such as e-commerce and IT outsourcing had gained momentum and then waned over time; and topics such as social media, design science, and online communities have gained momentum in recent times. Results suggest that IS research has evolved considerably over time and generally included new frontiers while serving its core strength and identity. Collapse

Abstract: Dynamic integration methods for unknown data sources and services at system design time are currently primarily driven by technological standards. Hence, little emphasis is being placed on integration methods. However, the combination of heterogeneous data sources and services offered by devices across domains is hard to standardize. In this paper, we will shed light on the interplay of self-adaptive system architectures as well as bottom-up, incremental integration methods relying on formal knowledge bases. An incremental integration method has direct influences on both the system architecture itself and the way these systems are engineered and operated during design and runtime. Our findings are evaluated in the context of a case study that uses an adapted bus architecture including two tool prototypes. In addition, we illustrate conceptually how control loops such as MAPE-K can be enriched with machine-readable integration knowledge. Collapse

Abstract: Given cloud services growing diffusion in business environments, cloud providers are searching for novel ways to provide effective assurances to cloud consumers. Continuous service certification (CSC) recently emerged as a promising way to address cloud consumers’ assurance needs, which stem from the inherent complexity and dynamics of today’s cloud environments. One CSC approach is to use the monitoring data of a provider’s cloud infrastructure for (semi-)automated certification processes. While a monitoring-based CSC approach has the potential to provide ongoing assurances concerning key properties of a cloud infrastructure (e.g., service availability and security), research to date lacks guidance on how to design and implement monitoring-based CSC. Following the design science paradigm with an exploratory inductive research approach, we contribute to the design knowledge base for CSC by proposing meta-requirements and design principles based on comprehensive interviews with cloud experts, and by offering insights into the development and evaluation of a prototypical artefact in a realistic scenario of a German cloud provider. Continuing our research will provide the design knowledge needed by cloud providers to implement monitoring-based CSC and thus will help address the deficiencies and assurance needs of today’s cloud environments. Abstract: Augmented reality (AR) is a technology that can assist with our daily decision-making tasks by presenting information that extends the physical world. However, little work has been done to understand the effect of the layout of AR interfaces on decision-making. In this paper, we present PHARA, an AR-based personal assistant that supports decision-making for healthier food products. In a controlled user study (n=28), we explored the use of four different AR layouts on two different devices: Microsoft HoloLens and smartphone. Using subjective and objective means, we measured their effects on decision-making tasks that occur when people hold food products in their hands. We found that pie and grid layouts perform better on the smartphone, whereas a stacked layout works better on the reduced field-of-view of the Microsoft HoloLens, potentially at the cost of some affordances such as time spent and actions.
