Abstract: Despite significant business opportunities made possible through advancements in technology, readily available digital technologies are often overlooked and not used by new ventures. To address this knowledge gap, this paper looks at the relationships between readily available digital technologies and born-digital new venture capabilities. We use an affordance lens to explore conditions in which born-digital new ventures interact with digital technologies to actualize digital affordances that facilitate the development of important capabilities. First, using the existing literature, we present a research model and its key elements. Then, using data on new ventures in a Canadian university incubator, we conduct fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) and develop seven configurational research propositions as pathways to develop information technology-enabled organizational capabilities in new ventures. Using this retroductive approach, this research builds a contextspecific middle-range theory that explains complex interactions between readily available digital technologies and new venture characteristics, where resources are provided by incubators in dynamic environments, to facilitate the development of ITOCs in the new ventures. Abstract: The role of 3D models has substantially changed for companies that focus on the creation of consumer goods. For manufacturing and retail firms, virtual objects are today the predominant medium for product development and customization while virtual world and game developers not only build their entire products based on 3D models but found that selling virtual goods in games and virtual worlds can be more lucrative than selling the actual virtual environment. The objective of this study is to emphasize the role of 3D models in the product development processes and to identify similarities and differences between both domains based on a literature review. The results imply that 3D models are today prevalent in the entire value chain of both domains, while non-functional attributes of 3D models are of increasing value. A commonality is the growing importance of the user as source of knowledge for and creator of 3D models. Collapse

Abstract: In order to better explain and predict consumers’ preferential choices of software products, we propose an integrated reconceptualization of IT that incorporates the tool, proxy and ensemble views of IT. We also develop a choice-based conjoint model to incorporate the product attributes, external control factors, user perceptions, and contextual factors to estimate users’ software preferences. The influences of product attributes on users’ perceptions of product characteristics are also examined. With a choice-based conjoint study, and the collection of additional data on users’ perceived product characteristics, we demonstrate that the proposed model can better explain and predict users’ software choices than the model with product attributes or with user perceptions exclusively, in terms of the in-sample fit and the holdout prediction hit rate at the individual-level and the aggregate-level. This study contributes to the literature by providing a better understanding of how various IT components jointly determine consumers’ software selection decisions. Collapse
