Abstract: Transportation is a backbone of modern globalized societies. It also causes approximately one third of all European Union and U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, represents a major health hazard for global populations, and poses significant economic costs (e.g., due to traffic congestion). However, rapid innovation in vehicle technology, mobile connectivity, computing hardware, and artificial intelligence–powered information systems heralds a deep socio-technical transformation of the sector. The emergence of connected, autonomous, shared, and electric vehicle technology has created a digital layer that resides on top of the traditional physical mobility system. The resulting layered modular architecture is similar to that seen in other cyber-physical systems. Yet, it also comes with several characteristics and challenges that are unique to the domain of mobility and require entirely new solution approaches. Although other management and domain-specific research disciplines have started to embrace the new opportunities for research resulting from this deep structural change, the information systems (IS) community’s involvement in smart mobility research has been marginal. Yet, we argue that our field’s uniquely multidisciplinary, data-driven, and socio-technical research lens puts it in a strong position to address many of the large-scale societal challenges encountered in the mobility sector. Therefore, we make the case for IS research to play an active role in delivering a smart sustainable mobility ecosystem that is beneficial to users, mobility providers and the environment. We contribute a research framework to direct IS research efforts while providing a shared understanding of the smart sustainable mobility domain. We also present seven IS research opportunities along the dimensions of this framework and propose concrete angles of attack which we hope will spur an impactful and structured research agenda in the area. Abstract: Public sector organizations are continuously experimenting with how to deliver public services using blockchains, despite the hyperbole and overblown expectations still surrounding the technology. We conduct a case study approach of several early blockchain projects to understand the role and impact of expectations and hype for actors in these projects regarding how they interpret technology, legitimize their decisions, and mobilize resources in early-stage innovation activities. The empirical cases are selected from the European public sector and research is conducted in an R&D project where academic institutions and public sector organizations collaborate to increase knowledge about public sector blockchains. In this paper, we contribute a conceptualization of blockchain technology as an organizing vision for these public sector organizations. Abstract: Mob programming (MP) is a relatively new phenomenon in software development. So far, the academic literature has not published in this domain. The goal of this paper is to develop a framework for researching the MP phenomenon. We first outline current practitioner descriptions of and justifications for MP. We then examine concepts from team theory and practices from agile development to identify the team processes and taskwork involved in MP. Based on these, we present a research framework for the academic study of MP. We conclude by considering how the framework can be used by IS researchers. Collapse

Abstract: Blockchains can be used to enable new kinds of organizations, especially Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAO). In DAO, governance rules and transaction processing provided by traditional centralized authorities to support intermediation are completely replaced by the automated execution of trusted smart contracts to realize secure and immutable transactions. However, DAO may not be suitable for many business cases. Nevertheless, blockchains provide many unique functions, such as immutability, security, trust, and traceability, so that they can be used to augment existing software solutions. We introduce the concept of Blockchain-Augmented Organizations (BAO), in which traditional, Non-Blockchain Organizations (NBO) are augmented by the blockchain-based organizations. We compare BAO with DAO and NBO, and propose a model-based, process-driven engineering approach for constructing blockchain organizations and applications. Experience gained on a pilot blockchain prototyping experiment on an aerospace Model-Based Systems Engineering project using Hyperledger's Fabric is used to elaborate and exemplify the paper. Abstract: Collaborative business intelligence (BI) is widely embraced by enterprises as a way of making the most of their business processes. However, decision makers usually work in isolation without the knowledge or the time needed to obtain and analyze all the available information for making decisions. Unfortunately, collaborative BI is currently based on exchanging e-mails and documents between participants. As a result, information may be lost, participants may become disoriented, and the decisionmaking task may not yield the needed results. The authors propose a modeling language aimed at modeling and eliciting the goals and information needs of participants of collaborative BI systems. This approach is based on innovative methods to elicit and model collaborative systems and BI requirements. A controlled experiment was performed to validate this language, assessing its understandability, scalability, efficiency, and user satisfaction by analyzing two collaborative BI systems. By using the framework proposed in this work, clear guideless can be provided regarding: (1) collaborative tasks, (2) their participants, and (3) the information to be shared among them. By using the approach to design collaborative BI systems, practitioners may easily trace every element needed in the decision processes, avoiding the loss of information and facilitating the collaboration of the stakeholders of such processes. Abstract: In this study we examine the influence of group atmosphere on perceived team conflict and the development of shared understanding in short duration virtual teams. We conducted a laboratory experiment with 24 short duration virtual teams that were engaged in data model development task. The findings of the study suggest that group atmosphere has strong influence on both development of shared understanding and perceived team conflict. In addition, we also find that national cultural diversity facilitates the development of shared understanding in virtual teams. Collapse

Abstract: This article provides an enriched technology acceptance model explaining the impact of both classic and additional variables on software engineering tools acceptance within Information Systems Development courses. Abstract: From our desk chairs it may be tempting to work up an idea, build a quick prototype, test it in a lab, and say, “Our work here is done; the rest is merely details.” More scholarly knowledge awaits discovery, however, by researchers who shepherd an information systems (IS) solution through the last research mile, that is, through successful transition to the workplace. Going the last research mile means using scientific knowledge and methods to address important unsolved classes of problems for real people with real stakes in the outcomes. The last research mile proceeds in three stages: proof-of-concept research to demonstrate the functional feasibility of a solution; proof-of-value research to investigate whether a solution can create value across a variety of conditions; and proof-of-use research to address complex issues of operational feasibility. The last research mile ends only when practitioners routinely use a solution in the field. We argue that going the last research mile negates the assumption that one must trade off rigor and relevance, showing it to be it a false dilemma. Systems researchers who take their solutions through the last research mile may ultimately have the greatest impact on science and society. We demonstrate the last research mile with cases from our own work and the work of others spanning more than forty years. Collapse

Abstract: To improve the results of Enterprise Systems (ES) implementation projects, new or revised implementation methodologies are introduced by ES vendors. Yet, the innovation and adoption of implementation methodologies (IM), which are computerbased and incorporate both project management and functional components, can be problematic. The purpose of this paper is to describe and explain the adoption of an implementation methodology. We recount for the adoption of an implementation methodology through the lens of a realist theory of social change. Our qualitative study provides insight into IM instantiation as manifestation of IM adoption configuration generated by the interplay between structure and agency over time, and suggests four implementation methodology adoption configurations: fragmented, aggregated, integrated, and infrastructural. This study also offers a foundation for future work that may contribute to a more coherent view on the instantiation of IMs and adoption configurations. Collapse
