Abstract: Traditional Computer Science education introduces computer programming very early in the curriculum. While appropriate, this does create difficulties given that related topics are not introduced until much later. While it is important to familiarize students with computer programming concepts as early as possible, it is equally important to introduce them to related concepts such as persistent storage, API integration, user experience implementation and user design as early as possible at a high level. Traditionally, these concepts are not introduced until far later in the curriculum creating disconnect in a student’s education. This disconnect is most noticeable upon graduation when many students are unfamiliar with common integrations used in industry. The Mendix platform allows these concepts to be introduced early on at an applied level, allowing students to benefit from their function prior to being introduced to their underlying theory. Abstract: The management of risk in business processes has been the subject of active research in the past few years. Potentially, many benefits can be obtained by integrating the two traditionally separated fields of risk management and business process management, including the ability to minimize risks in business processes by design and to mitigate such risks at run time. While there has been an increasing amount of research aimed at delivering such an integrated system, these research efforts vary in terms of scope, goals, and functionality. Through the systematic collection and evaluation of relevant literature, this article compares and classifies current approaches in the area of risk-aware business process management in order to expose and explain current research gaps. The process through which relevant literature was collected, filtered, and evaluated is also detailed. Finally, a research agenda is proposed. Collapse

Abstract: This paper develops a perspective to modeling team processes by drawing on concepts from team theory, and the informational processing and organizational paradigms. In such a perspective, humans and their interactions in a team are modeled as objects in a computerized environment. The behavior of the objects are specified in terms of the executable programs. A simulation testbed is described. Various information structures for team decision making in an example financial domain are examined. Questions regarding the relationship between information structure (who (knows) what, when, and how (the information is used)) and team performance are studied for the example. Thus this study can be seen as a step in the translation of behavioral and normative viewpoints of team decision making into a computational framework. The results indicate that there are complex relationships between information structure and team performance. The conventional wisdom relating improved performance to more information is not always true. The experiments demonstrate several situations of team interaction where more information can lead to dysfunctional effects. Collapse
