Abstract: Information systems development (ISD) requires dynamic and flexible ways of working, particularly when developing requirements in collaboration with customers. Although prior research has acknowledged the importance of objects to support ISD practices, there has been a lack of frameworks to help discern the multiple overlapping roles objects play to support requirements development in a variety of ways throughout an ISD project. This paper explores and theorizes this phenomenon by leveraging multiplexity as a theoretical lens to analyze an extensive qualitative data set from a case study at a Swiss multinational banking software provider. Results show how diagrams and prototypes both play the roles of epistemic, activity, boundary, and infrastructure objects as a reflection of how they are used in requirements development. Our analysis articulates how two classical requirements specifications play multiple overlapping roles to support dynamic and flexible ISD practices. Abstract: Digital platform research focuses on the mechanisms in digital platform ecosystems and the dynamics between platform owners, complementors, and end-users. Recent studies are beginning to look beyond the boundaries of narrow platform ecosystems. The development of the European Union's DigitalMarkets Act (DMA) is a revelatory case to study this wider perspective. Hundreds of actors participated in discourses on the regulation, which aims to regulate so-called gatekeeper platforms that are allegedly powerful, unfair to platform users, and incontestable for competitors. By means of a critical discourse analysis, we coded 1720 contributions on the proposed and adopted DMA between June 2020 and July 2022. We identify 72 positions and 14 narratives along five discourses. Our study creates a better understanding of a wider perspective of platform ecosystem structure that goes beyond the triangle of platform owner, complementors, and end users. Collapse

Abstract: Servitization describes the transformation of a manufacturer to a customer-centric service and solution provider. Providing customer solutions requires the integration of knowledge from different domains, e.g., engineering, software, and service, and usually also entails that more knowledge-intensive business services (KIBS) become part of the manufacturer's overall business model. Against this background, this article investigates how manufacturing and software firms leverage knowledge in KIBS and corresponding business models. We developed a taxonomy that systematizes KIBS along the three metadimensions of value proposition, value creation, and value capture. The application of our taxonomy to exemplary cases from both industries shows different strategies of knowledge usage across these industries. Our findings can support the development of KIBS and help practitioners to understand different ways of utilizing knowledge as a strategic resource. Implications for research point to the need for better understanding the collaboration of multiple actors from a knowledge-based perspective. Collapse

Abstract: Hybrid work experienced a surge due to the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing with it reduced visibility of cues used to facilitate effective teamwork and work coordination. While previous research suggests that virtual environments can help re-establish visibility, there is no comprehensive picture of the role of visibility in hybrid work. Based on a systematic search and hermeneutic review of 52 selected papers, we propose a framework that encompasses six dimensions of visibility: location, observer-observee relationship, mode of observation, awareness of observee, type of interaction, and work scenario. We further identify five groups of IT-supported practices aiming to (re-)establish visibility. The suggested framework and the identified practices contribute to a more nuanced understanding of (the role of) visibility in hybrid work environments. Based on our findings, we conceptualize visibility as a double-edged sword and as a continuum. Finally, we discuss implications for theory and practice and suggest avenues for future research. Abstract: Due to climate change, hazardous events and disasters are going to become more frequent and intense, increasing disaster risk. Information Communication Technologies (ICT) can play a powerful role in building resilience in all the phases of the disaster cycle by stimulating collaboration and communication among different actors. However, there is a lack of studies that connect these fields of study. Thus, a resilient thinking approach that considers ICT and disaster is required to face these challenges. To identify resilience aspects promoted by ICT in case of disaster, this study conducted a content and bibliometric analysis, resulting in nineteen aspects. The findings contribute to the current discussion and help decision-makers in understanding how to implement an ICT that enhances resilience for communities affected by disasters. Collapse

Abstract: This paper aims to examine the challenges of preventing internal identity theft related crimes (IIDTRC) in the UK retail sector. Using an in-depth multiple case studies of a selected number of cross-functional management teams in the UK retail companies, management roles were analysed. We used semi-structured interview as a qualitative data collection technique and used Nvivo aided thematic analysis and interpretivism underpinned by Role-Based Framework (RBF) for analysis. Our findings revealed that vagueness of roles and lack of clarity in sharing data security responsibilities are the major challenges of preventing IIDTRC in UK retail companies. We suggest an application of RBF which provides a conceptual analysis for cross-functional management team to address the challenges of preventing IIDTRC. RBF enables clarity of shared roles where both information security and crimes prevention teams work in unison is required to prevent IIDTRC to maximise internal data security. Contributions for policymakers are offered in this paper. Collapse

Abstract: Video conferencing systems are widely used in times of distributed teams since they support flexible work arrangements. However, they have negative impacts on users, such as lacking eye gaze or zoom fatigue. Adaptive interventions in video conferences based on user behavior provide interesting solutions to overcome these challenges, for example, by alerting users when looking tired. Specifically, biosignals measured by sensors like microphones or eye-trackers are a promising basis for adaptive interventions. To provide an overview of current biosignal-based user-adaptive video conferencing systems, we conducted a systematic literature review and identified 24 publications. We summarize existing knowledge in a morphological box and outline further research directions. Thereby, a focus on biooptical signals is visible. Current adaptations target audience feedback, expression understanding and eye gaze mostly by image and representation modifications. In future, we recommend including further biosignals and addressing more diverse problems by investigating adaptation capabilities of further software elements. Collapse

Abstract: In the field of natural language processing (NLP), advances in transformer architectures and large-scale language models have led to a plethora of designs and research on a new class of information systems (IS) called writing support systems, which help users plan, write, and revise their texts. Despite the growing interest in writing support systems in research, there needs to be more common knowledge about the different design elements of writing support systems. Our goal is, therefore, to develop a taxonomy to classify writing support systems into three main categories (technology, task/structure, and user). We evaluated and refined our taxonomy with seven interviewees with domain expertise, identified three clusters in the reviewed literature, and derived five archetypes of writing support system applications based on our categorization. Finally, we formulate a new research agenda to guide researchers in the development and evaluation of writing support systems. Collapse
