Abstract: Employing learning processes that promote 21st Century skills is now a requirement in Finnish schools and elsewhere. Participatory design/co-design activities have shown to foster design thinking and computational thinking skills in primary school level participants, but a lightweight applicable model of such an activity is yet to be presented. We develop a lightweight hybrid co-construction method based on software development via two exploratory case studies in a Finnish primary school. For the purpose of evaluating objectively the motivating effects of our activity, we elaborate upon four concerning dimensions that arise from previous studies. In our resulting activity, an adult programmer is partnered with a group of children to, in this case, construct math games together. The children felt empowered and motivated by working with us in this way, however, further study is required on the effects this kind of an activity has in comparison to alternative teaching methods. Abstract: The management process in company networks often imposes the challenging task to select or orchestrate members of the network into a particular set (network actor set) that delivers the "best fit" for an incoming inquiry to the network. The constraints are implied by the given inquiry, company offerings, and the current economical and collaboration status of the network. The companies forming the network are experiencing synergetic effects as their collaboration makes participation in larger and/or more complicated projects possible. The collaboration network is supported by information and communication technology and the task of orchestration is often entrusted to a person acting as network moderator. As many alternatives often exist, the task to obtain a proper set for a given inquiry can easily over-challenge a network moderator. This may lead to severe economic damage of the company network and the members. We introduce a supporting IT solution that will enable moderators to obtain optimized set proposals very flexibly and under comprehensive evaluation of the current economical status as well as from the collaboration history of the network. Our solution will also lead to better transparency, traceability, and analytical possibilities regarding collaborative inquiry and order management processes. Collapse

Abstract: This paper features a study on the use of electronic catalogs and retail storefronts as a concrete collaborative class project for an Management Information Systems (MIS) course with an Electronic Commerce theme in the Business curriculum and a survey of the MBA students that undertook this project in response to the course requirements. Survey results provide positive indications for the achievement of the goals of collaborative inquiry, team-based and active learning, constructivist pedagogical approach, and learning by doing. Abstract: This paper explores the nature of adaptive learning around new technology in organizations. To understand this issue, we examine the process of problem solving involving new production equipment during early factory use. We find that adaptation is a situated process, in that different organizational settings (1) contain different kinds of clues about the underlying issues, (2) offer different resources for generating and analyzing information, and (3) evoke different assumptions on the pan of problem solvers. Consequently, actors frequently must move in an alternating fashion between different organizational settings before they can identify the causal underpinnings of a problem and develop a suitable solution. These findings suggest that traditional, decontextualized theories of adaptive learning and of collaboration could be improved by taking into account that learning occurs through people interacting in context--or, more specifically, in multiple contexts. Learning is often enhanced not just by bringing people together but by moving them around to confront different sorts of clues, gather different kinds of data, use different kinds of tools, and experience different pressures relevant to a given problem. We discuss both managerial and theoretical implications of these findings. Collapse
