Abstract: Social media live streams (SMLSs) are becoming mainstream e-commerce platforms, especially for direct selling, offering online retailers (e-tailers) immense consumer interaction and engagement levels. Despite their growing prevalence, e-tailers face difficulties capitalising on this platform to enhance retail operations. This paper ex­ plores how SMLSs affect consumers’ purchase intentions by exploring their motivations for participating in ecommerce SMLSs. To this end, we used the uses and gratifications (U&G) theory to explain how using SMLSs to satisfy consumers’ needs could lead to high or low purchase intentions. It was done by collecting cross-sectional data from 795 consumers who have participated in e-commerce SMLSs. The data were analysed using partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). Our findings revealed that people use SMLSs to satisfy their need for value, social identification, and the me­ dium’s attributes. Based on these findings, we show six configurations that lead to high or low purchase in­ tentions and make corresponding theoretical propositions. Thus, our study contributes to the research and practice of using SMLSs for online shopping. Collapse

Abstract: Recent research has mostly examined the role of health communication technology (HCT) in patient empowerment and in producing patient-focused outcomes. This study examines HCT in a larger context where it is used as a tool to improve public health. The objective is to examine how HCT is used to monitor Covid-19's spread, and how social factors affect individual assessment of HCT and individual compliance disposition of Covid-19 guidelines. Analyzing data collected from 360 HCT users suggests that the information and system quality of HCT indeed impact users' assessment of its effectiveness and their compliance disposition. However, such effects are strongly mediated by social factors: Peer influence and government trust can sway an individual's cognitive judgments of Covid-19 regardless of HCT's impacts. The findings highlight the importance of social factors in pandemic management and the need to socialize health informatics to make them more effective. Collapse

Abstract: This study evaluated the capabilities of ChatGPT, a conversational artificial intelligence (AI) agent, to generate quality answers to exam questions that are indistinguishable from human-generated text, normally requiring high-level cognitive abilities. This potential capacity is a major threat to academic integrity since ChatGPT may be used for academic misconduct. To determine its capabilities, we asked 15 faculty members to assess a total of ten answers (two each) to an actual IS exam question, of which students wrote five, and ChatGPT generated five. The study found that ChatGPT can generate answers of generally good quality that may pass as human-written text by examiners. The contributions of the study lay in providing empirical results in a novel research area, providing recommendations for teachers, and suggesting ways forward for research. Collapse

Abstract: With the explosive growth of mobile phone users, individuals are getting used to using mobile phones to get various services. Mobile government, as one of important channels to provide official government services, has been paid increasingly attention recently. In order to discover the critical influence factors of individual attitude and behavioral intention, a meta-analysis method was used to construct a comprehensive framework for individual mobile government adoption and find out the moderating role of economic development level, based on 38 related empirical research publications. Abstract: Many social interactions rely on the premise of mutual trust, but deception violates trust and poses risk. Empirically examining trust and deception, particularly in high-stakes situations, is challenging but essential for improving the research realism and generalizability. To address this difficulty, we study trusting and deceptive behaviors in a high-stakes situation by using a novel dataset created from an American game show, Friend or Foe (FoF). In the show, a contestant's reward was determined through a trust game modified from the prisoner's dilemma. We explore how numerous human behaviors including facial expressions, gaze, head pose, body motion, language, and socio-demographic attributes, were related to a contestant's trusting or deceptive decision. Using a data-driven approach, we find that the deceivers' (contestants who chose Foe) behavior featured a neutralized face, negative facial emotions, enhanced upper body motion, and language with a lower sense of immediacy and agreeableness. The contestants who chose to trust (chose Friend) exhibited opposite behavioral patterns. Socio-demographic factors such as age, height, and facial attractiveness were also associated with a contestant's choice. Combining multimodal information, machine learning classifiers could predict the contes­ tant's choice with an accuracy about 25% greater than earlier reported human accuracy. We contribute to both trust and deception literature by examining the generalizability of trusting and deceptive behaviors to a new high-stakes scenario. We also add to the decision support literature by showing the superior predictive perfor­ mances of combining behavioral and socio-demographic features. Furthermore, we contribute to the academic community by introducing the FoF dataset. Collapse

Abstract: Psychological safety, the feeling of being comfortable to express one's ideas or opinions in teams, is a key determinant of successful global virtual teams. Even though there exists considerable knowledge about its antecedents, it is unknown how team-based (e.g., clarification of deliverables and deadlines) and technology-based (e.g., digital reminder nudges/ DRN) interventions foster psychological safety given cultural variations of team members. Based on a survey involving 148 participants, our data shows that both team-based interventions (TBI) and digital nudges foster psychological safety in global virtual teams. TBI are even more effective for high-context, indirect communicators than for low-context, direct communicators. However, digital nudges were equally effective across cultures for building psychological safety. These findings contribute to the literature on psychological safety as we show that not all antecedents hold equally across cultures and to the literature of digital nudges as we show the effectiveness of technology-based interventions in a team context. Abstract: Recent research shows that people tend to avoid relying on artificial intelligence (AI) when making decisions at work. Although previous studies have investigated the causes and effects of this phenomenon, the role of attitudes, which are considered as a crucial factor in biased decision-making, remains unexplored. To investigate whether and how attitudes toward AI influence decision-making in work-related situations, we developed and conducted a lab experiment in which 156 participants received AI advice on process improvement while performing a manufacturing task. Our results suggest that negative attitudes toward AI are associated with greater reluctance to accept AI advice, resulting in lower performance in work-related situations. Furthermore, we show that human involvement in the process of providing AI advice cannot mitigate the negative effects of strong negative attitudes. Collapse

Abstract: Social networks have become important platforms for the marketing and sale of illicit drugs. Hashtags make it easier for users to engage in drug trafficking, further increasing the risk of drug abuse. However, there are significant challenges in the detection and management of drug trafficking activities. In addition, the rapid legalization of some drugs has required a fine-grained classification of drugs to distinguish them from those that are illegal. Motivated by these observations, in this paper, our aim is to develop a methodology using the latest advances in AI technology to classify hashtags from posts advertising illicit drugs for sale on social networks. We present a semi-supervised deep learning approach to classify hashtags from posts advertising illicit drugs. An elegant combination of Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) with Graph Convolu­ tional Network (GCN) allows us to analyze the characteristics (e.g., shipping region and platform self-regulation) of illegal drug trafficking. Our BERT+GCN model achieved the best performance with more than 75% accuracy compared to the other three baseline models. Then, fine-grained hashtags identified are applied to explore the characteristics of drug trafficking. Finally, we report our results for further exploration of shipping regions and self-regulation of drug trafficking on the platform in two analysis scenarios. Our developed approach has shown its effectiveness in detecting hashtags for different types of drugs from illegal drug sellers. Based on hashtag classification, we also provide two case studies that indicate that (1) there are differences in self-regulation for different types of drugs on social media, (2) there are regional differences in the demand for different types of drugs. Abstract: Literature has shown that business-information technology (IT) alignment can exert both positive and negative influences on organizational agility, giving rise to the IT alignment-agility paradox. To better understand this paradox at a more granular level, we conceptualize the sensing and responding dimensions of organizational agility as two independent constructs and suggest a nonlinear analytical approach. Based on configurational and contextual perspectives, this study investigates how intellectual and social alignment and organizational and environmental elements combine into multiple configurations to affect sensing and responding capabilities. Fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) is used to analyze the survey data from 135 dyads of business and IT executives from the Chinese shipbuilding industry. Results show that different equifinal pathways can be used to achieve high sensing and responding capabilities, in which intellectual and social alignment play heterogeneous roles depending on the specific contexts. This study extends the ITenabled agility literature by deepening our understanding of the effects of multidimensional IT alignment on multidimensional organizational agility and providing new insights into the IT alignment-agility paradox.
