Abstract: The business analytics and strategic management literatures suggest that organizations should seek to exploit data as a key mechanism for competitive advantage. However, the rules of engagement are evolving, the regulatory landscape is becoming increasingly complex, and ex­ amples of poor outcomes are increasingly common. The board – in its role of setting and moni­ toring risk appetite – needs to be able to govern the risk/reward trade-off of the data asset. Contemporary data governance approaches are inadequate: they are overly rigid and risk ori­ ented, limited in scope to an organization’s self-interest rather than considering the broad set of stakeholders, and do not provide a platform for the board to manage this critical risk. This paper uses a unique set of informants – 41 board directors – to demonstrate that differences in board perspectives influence how organizations explore the secondary use of data. Furthermore, this paper identifies a set of relevant individual, organizational and environmental factors and pre­ sents empirically based configurations of these factors that lead organizations to consider (or neglect) the secondary use of data as a critical enabler of competitive advantage. Abstract: Crowdfunding as an alternative source of finance to banking is the subject of numerous research works. This research proposes the guidelines of a Decision Support System (DSS) in the area of crowdfunding based on a Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (FCM) approach. A framework consisting of three phases (ten steps) has been proposed to design the guidelines of a DSS in crowdfunding. The first phase focusses in the construction of the FCM. FCMbased scenarios have been built in the second phase. Finally, in the third phase the guidelines of the DSS in crowdfunding have been defined. Results show that DSS using FCM-based scenarios could be useful tools to promoters, funders and managers of crowdfunding projects. Collapse

Abstract: We explore how the initial market positioning of entrepreneurial ventures shapes how they professionalize over time, focusing specifically on the development of functional roles. In contrast to existing literature, which presumes a uniform march toward professionalization as ventures scale and complete developmental milestones, we advance a contingent perspective, distinguishing between the development of external interface functions (marketing & sales and customer development) and internal process functions (accounting, human resources, and finance). Specifically, we argue that positioning in an unconventional market space raises demand for external engagement that focuses ventures’ attention and resources toward developing external interface roles. At the same time, such unconventional ventures are less apt to elaborate their internal process roles relative to more conventional peers. We test these predictions using a novel longitudinal data set on the internal organizations of 3,748 U.S.-based entrepreneurial ventures. In contrast to common assumptions of convergent professionalization, our theory and findings advance the perspective that ventures pursue divergent professionalization paths based on their initial market positioning as they scale up. Abstract: Artificial Intelligence (AI) can significantly contribute to decentralizing and digitalizing the energy sector and environmental sustainability. Integrating AI-driven smart energy services (SES), such as energy production forecasting, building energy management, and predictive maintenance, remain in an early phase for plant providers or energy utilities. However, the knowledge regarding key factors determining the design of AI-driven SES is limited in the literature. Therefore, we derive critical success factors (CSFs) for the design of AI-driven SES in a design science research (DSR) approach in connection with the design thinking process. We identified ten CSFs and 31 CSF categories by iteratively combining the knowledge of interviewed AI business experts, scientific literature, and results of AI programming projects with students. Based on this, we developed a further research agenda containing six research demands and direct further research questions. Research Needs and MotivationAI solutions in the energy sector can be deployed for various tasks, such as energy generation forecasting, demand side management, building energy management, weather forecasting, predictive maintenance, plant and storage management, and energy price forecasting (Li et al. 2022). A forecast for the year 2025 predicts that the AI software market will generate annual revenue of 126 billion US dollars (Omdia 2020). Reasons for the increasing integration are the development of technologies for the collection and storage of big data and the constantly evolving computing power (Haenlein and Kaplan 2019). According to Nishant et al. (2020) AI systems in the energy sector contribute threefold: to task automation, gaining insights from data, e.g., documents, videos, and e-mails, and solving complex problems through computing capabilities. Automation tasks include the automated usage of drones for inspection and safety purposes. Gaining insights from data involves image analysis to provide predictive maintenance for power lines or energy production forecasting for energy planning. Solving complex problems includes planning efficient and multiple usages of battery storage (Nishant et al. 2020;Quest et al. 2022). Therefore, AI solutions, here AIdriven SES, can significantly impact energy efficiency and contribute to environmental sustainability, decarbonization, and decentralization of the energy sector (Antonopoulos et al. 2020;Nishant et al. 2020). Environmental sustainability, one of the three dimensions of sustainable development, concerns climate change and the measures required to quantify and reduce its impacts. Sustainability must be understood as consuming natural resources only so that future generations are not exposed to natural resource depletion (Purvis et al. 2019). Abstract: As organizations have become increasingly reliant on information systems, senior managers are keen in assessing the progress of implemented information security strategies. Although the balanced scorecard approach has been suggested for security governance, a critical issue affecting information security practitioners is complexity, as there are many standards and frameworks, with duplication and overlaps to adhere to when organizing the data. Consequently, the article attempts to develop a more inclusive framework for information security governance, a research gap recently identified in the literature. The article maps five governance and control frameworks (COBIT, SABSA, ISG, ITIL, and ISO 27000) to the information security balanced scorecard (InfoSec BSC) to develop a conceptual design of an effective information security performance measurement tool that can be used by senior managers. Using a real-life case application and interviews with a panel of experts, the article identifies IS initiatives, performance measures for each of the mapped objectives derived from governance and control frameworks that may provide guidance for practitioners. Abstract: The popularity and potential of FinTech for generating business value has been highlighted in an evolving number of studies. Nevertheless, there is still ambiguity on the success of such disruptive technologies. To address this gap, this paper draws on a case study of an IT vendor in Japan. We interview key stakeholders involved in the case project to (i) explore the success factors of FinTech applications adopted by non-financial organisations, (ii) illustrate the applicability of the multi-dimensional project success framework in FinTech projects, and (iii) highlight the importance of the FinTech Project Management field that warrants further investigation. We contribute to the IT Project Management field, where we extend the theoretical background with aspects of FinTech adoption and success. We also inform practice in terms of lessons for managers to improve the existing processes and assist their organisations in business transformational initiatives using FinTech. Collapse

Abstract: Physical retail faces the challenge of remaining attractive to customers in the age of e-commerce. In-store navigation systems are one way to mitigate this issue. These software systems allow customers to be navigated through the retail store. We derive design requirements (DRs) for in-store navigation systems based on eight interviews with customers and employees of furniture stores. We illustrate the implementation of the DRs in a conceptual prototype designed with the platform "Hololink." Initial evaluation results (n = 20) show that customers perceive such a solution for physical retail as mainly positive. Abstract: In order to achieve sustainability and resilience at the same time in global supply chains, a strategic framework and ecosystem collaboration is required to orchestrate the activities of the different supply chain participants to achieve a common goal. While the necessity of ecosystems is understood and accepted, the successful implementation of those remains a challenge. This paper looks from the perspective of practitioners at this challenge, identifying the critical success factors to make a collaboration ecosystem work. Based on the analysis of existing strategy concepts, ESG frameworks and of several ecosystems, a strategy framework is developed that can serve as a blueprint to successfully create global value networks that balance sustainability and resilience concerns using data and analytics. Abstract: This paper profiled blockchain studies in information systems (IS) journals from 2016 to 2022. Drawing on the 443 selected articles from 77 IS journals, we proposed a classification scheme from the IS perspective. Current blockchain articles are highly skewed, focusing on research agendas and system design. We proposed a theo­ retical framework by summarizing the current status of the blockchain literature and highlighting 15 future research questions for the IS research community. Abstract: In the management of national electronic identity (eID) infrastructure, cooperation between public and private parties becomes more and more important, as the mutual dependencies between the provision of e-services and the provision of the national public key infrastructure (PKI) continuously increases. Yet, it is not clear which key factors affect the public-private collaboration in the eID field, as existing studies do not provide insight into this particular matter. Therefore, we aim to identify the factors that affect public-private partnership (PPP) in the field of eID. We also describe feasible formats that help to improve the cooperation between the two sectors, based on insights from the case of Estonia. In service of that study, we conducted twelve qualitative interviews with high-level experts representing several parties from the public and the private sector. By conducting a thematic analysis of the interviews, we identified five key factors for successful PPP in the eID field, i.e., engagement, joint understanding, two-way communication, clear role division, and process orientation. Furthermore, we generalize our results by discussing, in how far the found cooperation formats can be used by stakeholders to manage state-critical information technology (IT) infrastructure components similar to eID such as mobile phone services, data transmission services and digital signature services.
