Abstract: This study explores ways to empower organisations to continuously improve their information security management (ISM). Drawing upon the dynamic capabilities approach, we investigated the mechanism wherein absorptive capacity has an effect. We found that absorptive capacity affects an organisation’s continuous improvement of ISM, with its effect mediated through an organisation’s adaptability to information security threats. In addition, the effect of absorptive capacity on adaptability is contingent upon the organisation’s competitive pressure, which enhances the mediating effect of adaptability. We tested our research model using survey data collected from 130 US-based managers familiar with information security management in their organisations. Theoretical and practical implications of the study are discussed. Collapse

Abstract: This paper explores the concept of Finfluencers: financial social network actors with high potential social influence. Our research aims to clarify whether Finfluencers drive or are influenced by the broader social network sentiment, thereby establishing their role as either opinion makers or opinion followers. Using a dataset of 71 million tweets focusing on stocks and cryptocurrencies, we grouped actors by their social networking potential (SNP). Next, we derived sentiment time series using state-ofthe-art sentiment models and applied the technique of Granger causality. Our findings suggest that the sentiment of Finfluencer actors on Twitter has short-term predictive power for the sentiment of the larger group of actors. We found stronger support for cryptocurrencies in comparison to stocks. From the perspective of financial market regulation, this study emphasizes the relevance of understanding sentiment on social networks and high social influence actors to anticipate scams and fraud. Abstract: The sustainable success of sports depends on a well-developed amateur participation base. The important role of amateur participation is transferring to esports, a professionalized form of organized video game competition. While esports has enjoyed considerable popularity, concerns about its viability are growing, as its revenue displays an increasingly slow growth and is small. Recently, amateur esports has been emerging to support esports sustainability, although little is known about mass gamers' amateur esports participation. To understand the phenomenon and facilitate its development, adopting the serious leisure perspective and affordance theory, we investigate relationships between mass gamers' video game engagement and their amateur esports participation. Specifically, two serious leisure-based gaming experiences influencing amateur esports participation are identified, enabling us to confirm two game affordances for developing both experiences. This study enriches our knowledge of amateur esports development by explaining how video game engagement facilitates amateur esports participation from a serious leisure perspective. Collapse

Abstract: Wearables are an important source of big data, as they provide real-time high-resolution data logs of health indicators of individuals. Higher-order associations between pairs of variables is common in wearables data. Representing higher-order association curves as piecewise linear segments in a regression model makes them more interpretable. However, existing methods for identifying the change points for segmented modeling either overfit or have low external validity for wearables data containing repeated measures. Therefore, we propose a human-in-the-loop method for segmented modeling of higher-order pairwise associations between variables in wearables data. Our method uses the smooth function estimated by a generalized additive mixed model to allow the analyst to annotate change point estimates for a segmented mixed-effects model, and thereafter employs Brent's constrained optimization procedure to fine-tune the manually provided estimates. We validate our method using three real-world wearables datasets. Our method not only outperforms state-of-the-art modeling methods in terms of prediction performance but also provides more interpretable results. Our study contributes to health data science in terms of developing a new method for interpretable modeling of wearables data. Our analysis uncovers interesting insights on higher-order associations for health researchers. Collapse

Abstract: Information security is a multilevel phenomenon with employee security decisions being influenced by macrolevel factors (e.g., organizational policies), mesolevel factors (e.g., one's immediate workgroup-IW), and microlevel factors (e.g., individual personalities). We argue that an employee's local IW (i.e., immediate supervisor and coworkers) has a strong effect on security. This paper focuses on the effects of these mesolevel factors in the presence of macro-and microlevel factors. Drawing on the social structure and social learning framework as well as workgroup research, we hypothesize that the security behavior of an employee's IW supervisor and coworkers moderated by the nature of these relationships influences information security decisions. Our research, based on a sample of 217 full-time employees, reveals that the IW significantly affects security decisions, over and above the micro-and macrolevel factors. These effects are moderated by the nature of the relationship between employees and their IW supervisor (leader-member exchange) and coworkers (team-member exchange). A post hoc analysis shows that the mesolevel factors alone had the same explanatory power as the micro-and macrolevels combined. Our research suggests that future theory and research should include the IW and that organizations should share security responsibilities with line managers and help them understand their substantial impact on information security. Security training programs should ask employees about the behaviors of their IW supervisor and coworkers and, where needed, deliver anti-neutralization training to mitigate the effects of the IW's noncompliance behaviors.Alexandra Durcikova is an associate professor of MIS at the Price College of Business, University of Oklahoma. Abstract: Peers may help others avoid violating organisational information security policies (ISPs). This study explores how peer monitoring reduces employee ISP violation intention. We propose that peer monitoring discourages employees from violating ISP. Moreover, trust plays an important role. Trust not only facilitates peer monitoring, but also moderates the effect of peer monitoring on employee ISP violation intention. In addition, collective responsibility leads to peer monitoring. We test our research model with data from two waves of surveys of 254 employees in the United States conducted two weeks apart. We utilise four scenarios in the second wave of surveys capturing the dependent variable and measure all other constructs in the first wave of surveys. Our results suggest that peer monitoring decreases one’s intention to violate ISPs. Furthermore, both collective responsibility and trust contribute to peer monitoring. Finally, trust amplifies the effect of peer monitoring on employees’ intention to violate ISPs. We discuss the theoretical contributions and practical implications. Collapse

Abstract: Advanced technologies are introduced in warehouse operations, rendering the interplay between human worker behavior and information systems (IS) a critical issue. We investigate how IS supports manual order picking by studying how visual color-coding information on picking locations provided through personal digital assistants accelerates search and picking tasks. Considering real-world data on a storage system where 20 dissimilar items are stored together at one picking location, we apply a log-logistic accelerated failure time model with N=112,672 picks performed by N=190 workers and find that color-coding accelerates the picking process by up to 17.28%. To increase the internal validity of our field-based examination, we conduct one VR experiment (N=29 participants) providing evidence for an acceleration of 23.74%, and one online experiment (N=178 participants) indicating an acceleration of 24.29%. Based on an innovative method of triangulation, we demonstrate how IS can influence picker behavior and discuss how to better design IT artifacts. Collapse

Abstract: Light field video technology attempts to acquire human-like visual data, offering unprecedented immersiveness and a viable path for producing highquality VR content. Refocusing that is one of the key properties of light field and a must for mixed reality applications has shown to work well for microlens based cameras, but as light field videos acquired by camera arrays have a low angular resolution, the refocused quality suffers. In this paper, we present an approach to improve the visual quality of refocused content captured by a camera array-based setup. Increasing the angular resolution using existing deep learning-based view synthesis method and refocusing the video using shift and sum refocusing algorithm produces over blurring of the in-focus region. Our enhancement method targets these blurry pixels and improves their quality by similarity detection and blending. Experimental results show that the proposed approach achieves better refocusing quality compared to traditional shift and sum method. Collapse

Abstract: We investigate the impact of the announcement of the COVID-19 pandemic on the market value and trading volume of supply chain finance (SCF) firms. Using an event study, we observe a significant valuation loss and higher trading volume of SCF firms. However, blockchain-enabled SCF firms are protected from such valuation loss and volatility in trading. We find that higher research and development (R&D) and capital expenditures by firms prevent the loss. Moreover, the firm value of blockchain-enabled SCF firms is impacted by their mem­ bership in a blockchain consortium and progress in blockchain implementation. Investors’ confidence in blockchain reduces the market uncertainty. Collapse

Abstract: Long-term collaborations are crucial in many creative domains. Although there is ample research on why people collaborate, our knowledge about what drives some collaborations to persist and others to decay is still emerging. In this paper, we extend theory on third-party effects and collaborative persistence to study this question. We specifically consider the role that a third party’s helpful behavior plays in shaping tie durability. We propose that when third parties facilitate helpfulness among their group, the collaboration is stronger, and it persists even in the third’s absence. In contrast, collaborations with third parties that are nonhelpful are unstable and dissolve in their absence. We use a unique data set comprising scientific collaborations among pairs of research immunologists who lost a third coauthor to unexpected death. Using this quasi-random loss as a source of exogenous variation, we separately identify the effect of third parties’ traditional role as an active agent of collaborative stability and the enduring effect of their helpful behavior—as measured by acknowledgments—on the persistence of the remaining authors’ collaboration. We find support for our hypotheses and find evidence that one mechanism driving our effect is that helpful thirds make their coauthors more helpful. Collapse
