Abstract: Financial robo-advisors have been widely used to assist individuals in their investment decisions, making it important to reduce uncertainties in the assistance process. Existing empirical studies rarely explore uncertainty reduction strategies and their implications on users’ investment intentions in the context of financial roboadvisors; our study attempts to address this gap. We construct a model to explain how uncertainty reduction strategies affect users’ investment intention in using financial robo-advisors. By collecting and analyzing a sample of 307 financial robo-advisor users, we find that algorithmic interpretability, structural assurance, and interactivity as uncertainty reduction strategies are positively related to users’ investment intention through the value-based adoption mechanism. Our research extends the value-based adoption model and uncertainty reduction theory in the financial robo-advisor context. We provide insights to financial robo-advisor service providers about focusing on improving algorithmic transparency, third-party assurance, and interactivity of financial robo-advisors to enhance perceived value and investment intention. Abstract: This study aims to address a research gap related to the outcomes of the use of technology when the performance falls short of initial expectations, and the coping mechanisms that users may deploy in such circumstances. By adopting Cognitive Dissonance Theory, the objectives of the study are a) to examine how dissonance, caused by the negative disconfirmation of expectations, may translate into a positive outcome and b) study how negative emotions, such as anger, guilt and regret, determine the selection of the mechanism to reduce dissonance. The theorised model was tested using a cross-sectional research design and a sample of 387 smart home users. The focus on smart home users fitted the objectives of the study due to the high expectations that users form and the challenges that the utilisation of technology sometimes causes. The collected data was analysed using structural equation modelling. Findings indicate that post-disconfirmation dissonance induces feelings of anger, guilt and regret, correlating with dissonance reduction mechanisms, which in turn have a distinctive effect on satisfaction and wellbeing. The findings of the study contribute to the discussion on expectation-disconfirmation and cognitive dissonance, by illustrating the interrelationship between emotional, cognitive and behavioural factors following the evaluation of technology performance and confirming that negative disconfirmation may result in satisfaction. Abstract: Although individual adoption and use of a single system has been examined extensively, little is known about how people evaluate and compare competing systems. In this paper, we discuss and test three alternative models underlying user comparison of competing systems: separate, crossover effect, and relative comparison processes. The separate comparison process proposes that users develop separate cognitive, affective, and conative evaluations toward each system, and the between-system comparison only occurs at the point of choosing a preferred system. The crossover effect comparison process posits that users not only perform separate evaluations for each system, but also consider the competitive effects when proceeding across cognitive, affective, and conative evaluation stages. In contrast, the relative comparison process postulates that users directly compare competing systems within each of the cognitive, affective, and conative evaluation stages. Based on the IS continuance model, we tested each of these three models using data collected from users of two competing instant messaging systems. Our results showed that the relative comparison process is the most parsimonious and the best model in terms of explaining the mechanisms underlying the comparison of system use by individuals. Abstract: Digitalization is increasingly and broadly impacting on companies throughout all industries. To cope with digital transformation, organizations need specific IT skills and often face a bottleneck between required and existing capabilities. Thus, organizations revert to support from IT consultants. However, such collaborations need to create value so as to make client organizations future-proof in the long term. We therefore need a better understanding of how value is created in IT consulting projects. We build on service-dominant (S-D) logic as the theory base and evaluate our structural model, which explains IT consulting service value based on 77 matched pairs of IT consulting projects using structural equation modeling. We provide empirical support for the assumptions of S-D logic in the IT consulting industry and reveal determinants that significantly contribute to the overall IT consulting service value. Our results contribute to the ongoing discourse in the S-D logic literature and provide meaningful insights for practice. Collapse

Abstract: Digitalization permeates entire companies. Rethinking information systems (IS) success models developed in the 1980/1990s becomes obvious. But how does one define such a new model and implement it? Taking an SAP S/4HANA migration as our use case, the new triple "E" rating on hand focuses on the IS success of digital technologies by balancing efficiency, effectiveness, and experience criteria. Six takeaways emerge from our case study that should drive future discussion: (1) Evaluate digital technologies by adopting a simple but comprehensive approach including criteria beyond efficiency.(2) Consider diverse IS success perspectives consciously but never lose focus on the enduser. (3) A triad of efficiency, effectiveness, and experience encompasses the challenges of digital technologies. (4) Separate efficiency and effectiveness criteria, however, consider trade-offs between them. (5) The experience category highlights digital awareness and socio-technical changes. Abstract: Open innovation crowdsourcing enables online crowds to quickly generate a plethora of creative ideas. A key challenge is the convergence of ideas for further consideration from massive numbers of candidate ideas with diverse quality. Based on Cognitive Load Theory, we executed a laboratory experiment to test the associations between three types of cognitive load manipulations and idea convergence outcomes. Our findings show that germane cognitive load positively correlates with idea convergence quality, satisfaction with process, and satisfaction with outcome. Intrinsic cognitive load is negatively associated with satisfaction with process and satisfaction with outcome, while extraneous cognitive load negatively correlates only with satisfaction with outcome. We further identified the positive moderation role of knowledge self-efficacy, perceived goal clarity, and need for cognition on the relationships between germane cognitive load and idea convergence quality. Our findings can inform open innovation organizers when designing tasks and interventions to improve convergence outcomes. Collapse

Abstract: Nowadays, people are faced with choices between or among alternative systems (joint evaluation, or JE mode), as opposed to evaluating only one system in isolation (separate evaluation, or SE mode). This research investigates how users make technology adoption decisions in these two contexts. Based on the context-specific theorization framework proposed by Hong et al. (2014) and integrating general evaluability theory and construal level theory, we theorize how evaluation mode (JE versus SE), as a usage context variable, interacts with other aspects of IS contexts to influence technology adoption. The IS contexts considered in this work include a user characteristic variable (construal level) and technology-related factors (perceived ease of use, PEoU, and perceived usefulness, PU). In two studies (N = 272 and N = 112), participants were presented with two new e-learning systems either in JE or SE mode. Because study (1) was conducted in two natural settings and study (2) had participants randomly assigned to manipulated evaluation modes, these two studies complement each other to offer internal and external validities. We found that in JE a higher construal level strengthened the effect of PEoU but weakened that of PU on technology adoption. These effects were reversed in SE. The findings suggest that users’ technology choices and preferences can be reversed by simply presenting the target system in different ways. Collapse

Abstract: Hiring a new employee is traditionally thought to be an uncertain investment. This uncertainty is lessened by the presence of signals that indicate job fitness. Ideally, job applicants objectively signal their qualifications, and those signals are correctly assessed by the hiring team. In reality, signal manipulation is pervasive in the hiring process, mitigating the reliability of signals used to make hiring decisions. To combat these inefficiencies, we propose and evaluate SIGHT, a theoretical class of systems affording more robust signal evaluation during the job application process. A prototypical implementation of the SIGHT framework was evaluated using a mock-interview paradigm. Results provide initial evidence that SIGHT systems can elicit and capture qualification signals beyond what can be traditionally obtained from a typical application and that SIGHT systems can assess signals more effectively than unaided decision-making. SIGHT principles may extend to domains such as audit and security interviews. Collapse

Abstract: The halo effect has been extensively used to understand how people make judgments about the quality of an object. Also, the halo effect has been known to occur when people evaluate multiattribute objects. Although websites consist of multiple attributes and dimensions, prior research in information systems has paid little attention to how people evaluate multi-attribute websites and associated halos. Furthermore, research investigating how initial evaluations of reputation are formed toward unknown objects under the halo effect is scarce. Based on these two research gaps, the purposes of this study are to identify whether there is evidence of salient halos in the evaluation of multi-attribute websites and to theorize initial perceptions of reputation. To accomplish these objectives, we introduce a framework for classifying halos based on attributes and dimensions. Also, this study employs charity websites as a multi-attribute donation channel consisting of three attributes of information content quality (mission information, financial information, and donation information) and four attributes of system quality (navigability, download speed, visual aesthetics, and security). Based on the proposed framework, this study proposes four types of halos that are relevant to charity website evaluation—collective halo (attribute-to-attribute), aesthetics halo (attribute-to-dimension), reciprocal-quality halo (dimension-to-dimension), and quality halo (dimension-to-dimension). Abstract: The purposes of this research are two-fold: to explore the key content of the Mobile Information Systems (MobIS) field and to identify the intellectual structure within MobIS research. Although mobile technologies have developed at great speed, little research has focused on the macroscopic viewpoint to understand the core knowledge of MobIS and its intellectual structure. To fill this research gap, articles related to MobIS from the ISI Web of Knowledge database and their cited articles were collected, and then citation analysis and document cocitation analysis were applied, including factor analysis and cluster analysis. This research identified 75 highlycited articles and yielded 6 core categories of knowledge in mobile information systems: (1) Technology Acceptance; (2) Mobile Commerce; (3) Technology Innovation; (4) Use of Mobile Technology; (5) Measurement and Evaluation of Information Technology; and (6) Information System Success. The findings demonstrate that the MobIS field is still young and evolving. The core knowledge categories will be useful for scholars from different disciplines to effectively understand the core concepts and their relevance in MobIS in order to uncover possible research directions and entry-points in this rapidly expanding research area. Practitioners can also discover trend lines for future development, as well as identify extended themes for integration into the current MobIS field. This will benefit both the maintenance of current framework and the development of new business opportunities. Collapse
