Abstract: This paper presents an assessment of the Chinese healthcare system in 31 provinces for a 10-year period in light of relevant physical and human resource variables. First, a novel TEA-IS (Trigonometric Envelopment Analysis for Ideal Solutions) model is developed to assess healthcare efficiency at the province level. Machine learning methods are also employed to predict high-low performance and the synergistic Chinese healthcare province in terms of contextual variables. The results indicate that synergy has played a pivotal role in the Chinese healthcare systems, not only by triggering higher performance levels due to the progressive adoption of best practices over the course of time, but also by being closely related to different socioeconomic and demographic variables, such as the illiteracy rate. It is possible to claim that healthcare performance has remained stable in China over the past two decades, performance and synergy at the province level are still heterogeneous. Collapse

Abstract: Digital platforms have proven to be efficient matchmakers in our networked economy and society. However, their tremendous potential is a double-edged sword, and concerns about their malpractices and negative impact have risen remarkably. In the light of practical relevance, research on digital platform regulation (DPR) did not contribute very much. Especially information systems (IS) which, as a discipline, seems predestined to explain the problems at the confluence of technology–economy–society, has barely grazed the issue of DPR. Particularly, a contribution is missing that at least explores the problems with digital platforms systematically and comprehensively. In response to this aim, we pursue a two-step approach: First, we apply qualitative meta-analysis of 211 cases as well as a number of regulation papers and actual regulation endeavors to identify and conceptualize the problem scope and potential regulatory approaches for platform problems. Second, we condense our findings into a conceptual model. Our findings show that digital platforms exploit both platform- and monopoly-related problems to assert themselves in different markets. Through their impactful platform governance, they even have become serious challengers to the regulator in controlling market access, key conditions, and resources. At this, they rely on the efficient use of data and digital technologies to effectively orchestrate platform agents and their transactions. The outcome of the paper is a set of two structured instruments that fill a void in interdisciplinary research and provide support to DPR practitioners for a systematic approach to regulation. Abstract: This paper reframes our understanding of the discourse on work-life balance (WLB) from a global perspective, where life on the four income levels (from bottom of the wealth to top of the wealth) is equally considered. Based on a systematic literature review, our initial insights are that WLB of workers in the highest economic sectors has received significant attention from scholars and practitioners in the west, while the global rest and those in other economic sectors, which represents the majority of the world's population, has almost entirely been overlooked. We argue for a new understanding of WLB that addresses the needs of all people across the globe, regardless of their economic status or geographic position, and independent of their formal or informal work contexts. In our future work, we aim to address how disparities in: (1) agency and dependence; (2) privacy and exposure; (3) connection and disconnection; and (4) formality and informality can affect people's dignity, equality, and healthy environments. Abstract: The use of cloud computing continues to increase in Germany, according to Germany’s digital association. However, threats to information security stand in the way of a comprehensive acceptance and penetration of cloud computing. Secure software development is described in the standard ISO/IEC 27001, security control A.14.2 “Security in development and support processes” and in the cloud related code of practice standard ISO/IEC 27017 in chapter 14.2 “Security in development and support processes”. Secure software development has the potential to reduce vulnerabilities and thus increase the security level of applications. When implementing a secure software development process of cloud applications, the question for organizations is which factors have a positive influence on success, where success is defined as an increased security level of cloud applications. This paper contributes to answering the questions of (RQ1) what potential success factors exist in secure software development of cloud applications in Germany and (RQ2) what role does strategic and operational aspects play. Abstract: The concept of blockchain, as part of distributed ledger technologies, has gained a lot of interest recently, especially in cryptocurrencies. With the addition of other technical capabilities, e.g., smart contracts and oracles, this interest has spread to other areas as well and affects a wide variety of business processes such as supply chain processes. However, in research, the wide variety of processes finds inadequate consideration to date. In this research paper, we provide an overview of the state of the art of distributed ledger technologies in supply chains and point out future research topics. Therefore, we conducted a structured literature review, systematized potential application areas in supply chain processes, and showed that research gaps exist. To address the research gaps, we derived open research questions, whereby conducting design studies to deal with the practical problems in the application areas plays a central role. Collapse

Abstract: There is both widespread interest in encouraging entrepreneurship and universal recognition that the vast majority of these founders will fail, which raises an important unanswered question: What happens to ex-founders when they apply for jobs? Whereas existing research has identified many factors that facilitate movement out of an established organization and into entrepreneurship, far less attention has been devoted to understanding what transpires during the return journey—most notably, how employers evaluate entrepreneurial experience at the point of hire. We propose that employers penalize job candidates with a history of founding a new venture because they believe them to be worse fits and less committed employees than comparable candidates without founding experience. We further predict that the discount for having been an entrepreneur will diminish when other stereotypes about the candidate, particularly those based on gender, will contradict the negative beliefs about ex-founders. We test our proposition using a résumé-based audit and an experimental survey. The audit reveals that founding significantly reduces the likelihood that an employer interviews a male candidate, but there is no comparable penalty for female ex-founders. The experimental survey confirms the gendered nature of the founding penalty and provides evidence that it results from employers’ concerns that founders are less committed and worse organizational fits than nonfounders. Critically, the survey also indicates that these concerns are mitigated for women, helping to explain why they suffer no equivalent founding penalty. Collapse

Abstract: Despite the widespread knowledge that corporations collect and exchange user online personal data (OPD) between themselves in a market for OPD, there have been few attempts to systematically understand the nature and structure of these markets or answer basic questions about the behavior of parties in these markets. This paper addresses these questions using records of data sharing behavior by 218 websites across eight economic sectors. Two datasets, collected 4 years apart, are analyzed using social network analysis (SNA). Findings indicate linear preferential attachment is the most likely coordinating mechanism in the OPD market. Further, this market has a much higher number of brokers (intermediary corporations that facilitate exchange between other corporations) than comparable markets. Building on these findings, implications for research and practice are presented along with future research directions. Collapse

Correspondingly, there is an urgent need for identifying relevant key performance indicators (KPIs) to support the decision-making process and survive from exogenous shocks. The paper focuses on the cultural sector, one of the social and economic sectors that has faced severe disruption by the pandemic. The objective of this study is to conduct a literature review on KPIs, especially for organizations in the cultural sector, with relevance to massive data and crisis response. The research results indicate the novel balanced scorecard covering the perspectives of finance, customers, web, social media, and crisis responses for crisis-ready organizations. Abstract: This study proposes and tests a new theoretical model explaining whether, and how, supervisors socialize “temporary newcomers,” defined as new organizational members who join an organization on a temporary basis, with a potential, but uncertain, opportunity of receiving a long-term job offer in the future. We suggest that under specific conditions, supervisors first evaluate temporary newcomers’ proactivity based on whether they positively stand out by proposing new feasible ideas and by promoting their achievements. On the basis of these initial evaluations, supervisors then decide whether to increase their support of newcomers’ creativity (using an investiture approach) or to intensify newcomers’ socialization by attempting to change their behavior (using a divestiture approach). When supervisors adopt an investiture approach, it positively influences temporary newcomers’ socialization adjustment outcomes, as indicated by increased newcomer job satisfaction, social integration, task performance, organizational and task socialization, challenge stress, and reduced hindrance stress. When supervisors instead adopt a divestiture approach, it has an opposite (thus negative) effect on the same socialization outcomes. We tested our theoretical model using a mix-method design, based on a three-wave longitudinal sample of 325 newcomer–supervisor dyads spanning a wide range of companies and industries, complemented with interviews of 41 supervisors. Abstract: We explored the Moral Attitudes (MA) and Organizational Ethics (OETH) before and during the COVID-19 Pandemic in relation to the sex of Information Technology (IT) Knowledge Workers (KW) in regional, crossborder enterprises in Poland, a transition economy. Two dimensions of MA and three dimensions of OETH -Ethical Optimism (ETO), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and Top Management Action (TMA) -were investigated. The analysis was carried out on data obtained from a random survey among KW representing mainly small and medium-sized enterprises in the cross-border region of Lower Silesia. Our research findings suggest that KW manifest high enough moral codes that do not correlate too strongly with OETH. Pandemic and sex, in general, affect the relationship between MA and OETH of KW in the transition economy. Collapse
