Abstract: Although achieving strategic distinctiveness is critical for firms in dynamic industries, where the competitive landscape and market conditions frequently change, there is a paucity of research on the impact of information technology (IT) on a firm's strategic conformity (or distinctiveness). Motivated by the importance of strategic conformity and emergence of novel technologies, we draw on institutional theory and hypothesize that IT Novelty positively impacts strategic conformity. Second, drawing on resource-based view, we hypothesize that market dynamism and competitive dynamism negatively moderate the effect of IT Novelty on strategic conformity. Third, we hypothesize that the moderating impact is stronger for market dynamism than competitive dynamism. We find support for our hypotheses using a fifteen-year dataset from over 300 U.S. manufacturing firms. Our study contributes to theory and managerial practice by combining institutional and resource-based view perspectives to examine how IT Novelty shapes a firm's strategic conformity, particularly in dynamic industry conditions. Abstract: In contemporary software development, software process tailoring (SPT) refers to the continual planning and adjustment of the development process, which evolves to better accommodate dynamics and meet customer needs. SPT is a critical teamwork involving the differences in time-related perceptions among team members when tailoring to adjust and refine the development. This is particularly true in agile-based projects that promote iterative development over shorter cycle times for early release; thus, temporality is critical to efficiently and effectively determine a process solution for the next iteration of time-bound development. In this regard, this study theorizes a temporal model to explore how teams' temporal leadership, temporal reflexivity and shared temporal cognitions (STC) collectively determine SPT performance in agile environments. Based on an empirical examination, we suggest facilitating the role of temporal leadership in agile development, as the results demonstrate that it not only directly increases SPT performance but also stimulates both temporal reflexivity and STC in their collateral influences on effectual development planning. Notably, the results also show that team reflexivity does not exert the same favorable effect in SPT as in the distributed team environment. Theoretical implications are considered, and practical applications of the findings are provided. Collapse

Abstract: Smart retail stores have been gaining momentum in smart retailing. Instead of relying on in-store staff like traditional counterparts, smart retail stores provide an unmanned environment purely enabled by various in-store smart technologies that support customers throughout the shopping journey. This unstaffed operating model also enables smart retail stores to provide competitive prices by reducing labor costs. However, studies have overemphasized the unique value offered by smart technology but discounted the common value strengthened in smart retail. This study applies the situational factor framework to identify both unique and common factors empowered by smart technology from a comprehensive perspective; then, technology readiness is incorporated to explore consumer purchase intentions in smart retail stores. A total of 283 survey data were collected and analyzed. The main results indicate that most situational factors have a direct effect on purchase intention, and technology readiness enhances the unique situational factors enabled directly by smart technology. Mobile government, as one of important channels to provide official government services, has been paid increasingly attention recently. In order to discover the critical influence factors of individual attitude and behavioral intention, a meta-analysis method was used to construct a comprehensive framework for individual mobile government adoption and find out the moderating role of economic development level, based on 38 related empirical research publications. Abstract: Many social interactions rely on the premise of mutual trust, but deception violates trust and poses risk. Empirically examining trust and deception, particularly in high-stakes situations, is challenging but essential for improving the research realism and generalizability. To address this difficulty, we study trusting and deceptive behaviors in a high-stakes situation by using a novel dataset created from an American game show, Friend or Foe (FoF). In the show, a contestant's reward was determined through a trust game modified from the prisoner's dilemma. We explore how numerous human behaviors including facial expressions, gaze, head pose, body motion, language, and socio-demographic attributes, were related to a contestant's trusting or deceptive decision. Using a data-driven approach, we find that the deceivers' (contestants who chose Foe) behavior featured a neutralized face, negative facial emotions, enhanced upper body motion, and language with a lower sense of immediacy and agreeableness. The contestants who chose to trust (chose Friend) exhibited opposite behavioral patterns. Socio-demographic factors such as age, height, and facial attractiveness were also associated with a contestant's choice. Combining multimodal information, machine learning classifiers could predict the contes­ tant's choice with an accuracy about 25% greater than earlier reported human accuracy. We contribute to both trust and deception literature by examining the generalizability of trusting and deceptive behaviors to a new high-stakes scenario. We also add to the decision support literature by showing the superior predictive perfor­ mances of combining behavioral and socio-demographic features. Furthermore, we contribute to the academic community by introducing the FoF dataset. Collapse

Abstract: The current research sheds new light on how and why status hierarchies impact interpersonal helping by examining people’s reactions to recently experienced status change. Specifically, we incorporate findings from research on the self-serving attributional bias to theorize about how the direction of status change (i.e., a gain or a loss) can shape the extent to which people accept or deflect personal responsibility for their change in status, which we argue will then impact other-concern and, thus, their willingness to help. Further, we identify status change legitimacy as a key contingency that will strengthen or weaken the psychological and behavioral effects of status change. Among firefighter teams (Study 1), participants in the laboratory (Studies 2 and 3), and student teams (Study 4), we show that (1) status change impacts interpersonal helping through its impact on changes in other-concern and (2) status change legitimacy moderates the effect of status change on both other-concern and interpersonal helping. Additionally, we document an asymmetry with regards to the effects of status change on both other-concern and helping behavior (i.e., with the negative impact of a status loss being stronger than the positive impact of a status gain). Abstract: Social commerce (s-commerce) has gained prominence with advances in social media and social networking technologies over the last decade. Prior research has employed diverse theoretical perspectives to understand and explain consumer behavior within s-commerce but has also produced inconsistent results. This study integrates different theoretical perspectives including trust, social support, and social presence. The research portrays an integrated research model involving factors that impact behavioral intention and use behavior of s-commerce consumers whilst synthesizing prior empirical findings. A meta-analytic structural equation modeling (MASEM) method was used to synthesize 189 findings reported in 68 s-commerce studies and to analyze the structural model. Our findings show that trust and informational support have positive effects on behavioral intention while trust and emotional support have positive effects on use behavior. Furthermore, our findings highlight that behavioral intention influences use behavior and mediates the effect of trust and informational support on use behavior. The implications for research and practice are discussed in detail. Collapse

Abstract: The effectiveness of behavior change support systems (BCSS) in promoting health and well-being is unflinching. However, its long-term effectiveness is hindered by non-compliance. Research in BCSS that focuses on compliance is scarce, particularly the determinants of compliance intention are not well established. To address this gap, this study investigated the determinants of compliance intention in BCSS by extending the persuasive system design model to include competence, effectiveness, enjoyment, and persuasiveness. By surveying a sample of prospective BCSS users (N=234), partial least squares structural equation modeling was used to evaluate the proposed model. The findings suggest that the prospective users' perceptions of primary task support and dialogue support, as well as social support and credibility support significantly influenced their perceptions of self-competence and system effectiveness respectively. These perceptions influenced enjoyment, then persuasiveness, and finally compliance intention. Future studies will validate these findings on the compliance behavior of BCSS. Collapse

Abstract: The deployment of machine learning (ML)-based decision support systems (DSSs) in high-risk environments such as radiology is increasing. Despite having achieved high decision accuracy, they are prone to errors. Thus, they are primarily used to assist radiologists in their decision making. However, collaborative decision making poses risks to the decision maker, e.g. automation bias and long-term performance degradation. To address these issues, we propose combining findings of the research streams of explainable artificial intelligence and education to promote human learning through interaction with ML-based DSSs. We provided radiologists with explainable vs nonexplainable decision support that was high-vs low-performing in a between-subject experimental study to support manual segmentation of 690 brain tumor scans. Our results show that explainable ML-based DSSs improved human learning outcomes and prevented false learning triggered by incorrect decision support. In fact, radiologists were able to learn from errors made by the low-performing explainable ML-based DSS. Collapse

Abstract: The manipulation of online consumer reviews (OCRs) became a global phenomenon. Although policymakers require platforms to delete OCRs that are identified as fake, they also urge to consider the principle of freedom of expression before deleting content. Since fake OCR detection algorithms are imperfect, platforms must either balance preventive deletion with preserving freedom of expression, or they can simply tag OCRs that are potentially fake. In this paper, we examine the consequences of the latter. With an incentive-compatible experiment, we observe that tagging fake OCRs harms relevant consumer trust dimensions. Contrary to our expectations, tags do not serve as trust-increasing signals for the platform as a signal provider. They do, however, not only directly harm consumers' trust in OCRs and reviewers, but also indirectly via the activation of consumers' persuasion knowledge. Although consumer trust decreases, we find no negative economic consequences for the platform from tagging potential fake OCRs. Collapse
