Abstract: Blockchain technology (BCT) has the potential to transform strategic alliances for reverse logistics, yet its specific impact on sustainability remains unclear. This study aims to ascertain the post-implementation impact of BCT-based strategic alliances on information technology reverse logistics. Drawing on a qualitative research design, it presents a preliminary understanding of BCT-based strategic alliances (i.e., collaborations) in reverse logistics. To address this study's research question, a conceptual framework based on a prior literature review is proposed to guide qualitative data collection. Next, the study analyzes the respondents' voices considering the dynamic capability perspective. Sustainability realization is viewed as the main driver for reverse logistics alliances, and the study explores these alliances' capabilities for sustainability through BCT technology. The study findings significantly contribute to the BCT literature in reverse logistics by assessing BCT-based strategic alliances in reverse logistics and realizing sustainability. Collapse

Abstract: Enterprise crowdfunding (ECF) has evolved as a novel form to foster innovation and collaboration inside organizations. Research has so far focused on functional aspects related to the introduction of the crowdfunding mechanisms in enterprises (e.g., proposal characteristics or decision-making styles) leaving socio-economic effects on the organization and workforce unexplored. This work investigates the relationship between enterprise crowdfunding and the engagement of participating employees. By conducting an online survey with 321 employees of a multi-national manufacturing and electronics corporation, we find increased levels of employee engagement contingent upon participation in enterprise crowdfunding. These findings contribute to the understanding of effects related to the introduction of crowd-innovation platforms and enterprise social systems. From a practical perspective, they may foster the spread of enterprise crowdfunding as a tool being recognized to promote both, crowd-based innovation and employee engagement. Collapse

Abstract: Process Intelligence refers to the extraction and analysis of valuable knowledge nuggets embedded in business process instances/event logs or enterprise applications, for the purpose of supporting various decision-making processes. Researchers and practitioners mine such event logs using Process Mining and Analytics (PMA) techniques that help analyze business processes across three perspectives: control flow, organization, and data. While previous PMA studies have made advances toward the control flow and data flow perspectives, there is limited research toward the organizational perspective of process intelligence. In this study, we propose an organizational mining framework, OrgMiner, that supports constructing organizational models from event logs. The framework utilizes the notion of behavioral patterns, which rely on the weak order relations appearing in event logs. The various modules and knowledge elements in the framework are described in detail. The components of the framework support identifying, selecting, and applying behavioral patterns using different metrics for organizational mining purposes. The derived organizational models can be used to support decision making in scenarios such as task assignment, resource allocation, as well as role-based access control. Compared to extant studies, the proposed approach does not assume prior availability of explicit process models. Additionally, the process patterns presented in this study can be used as building blocks, so that researchers and practitioners can use them directly or extend them further to identify complex organizational processes. A case study is presented to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of the OrgMiner framework. Collapse

Abstract: Demand forecasting works as a basis for operating, business and production planning decisions in many supply chain contexts. Yet, how to accurately predict the manufacturer’s demand for components in the presence of endcustomer demand uncertainty remains poorly understood. Assigning the proper order quantities of components to suppliers thus becomes a nontrivial task, with a significant impact on planning, capacity and inventory-related costs. This paper introduces a multivariate approach to predict manufacturer’s demand for components throughout multiple forecast horizons using different leading indicators of demand shifts. We compare the autoregressive integrated moving average model with exogenous inputs (ARIMAX) with Machine Learning (ML) models. Using a real case study, we empirically evaluate the forecasting and supply chain performance of the multivariate regression models over the component’s life-cycle. The experiments show that the proposed multivariate approach provides superior forecasting and inventory performance compared with traditional univariate benchmarks. Moreover, it reveals applicable throughout the component’s life-cycle, not just to a single stage. Particularly, we found that demand signals at the beginning of the life-cycle are predicted better by the ARIMAX model, but it is outperformed by ML-based models in later life-cycle stages. Collapse

Abstract: This paper investigates whether gamified experiences in a multi-actor service ecosystem can be used to encourage customers’ information exchange behavior. Furthermore, it examines the impact of customers’ knowledge sharing attitude on the relationship between experiential value and customers’ information exchange behavior. Structural equation modeling was used to assess these dynamic relationships and provide a scalable measurement instrument that can be applied to gamified experiences ranging from simple customer-interface interactions, all the way up to multi-actor service ecosystems. Our findings support the notion that managers can use gamification to foster information exchange and thereby value co-creation between customers and employees directly, without necessarily having to change customers attitudes first. The findings also suggest that gamification can be applied successfully in cases of large groups of people with widely varying characteristics, backgrounds, and motivations. Additionally, our research indicates that experiential value is a suitable candidate for a consistent measurement instrument for gamification. This study is the first to apply a holistic experiential value approach to a gamified experience that simultaneously accounts for customers’ interactions with a multisensory physical environment, their personal interactions with employees, and their interactions with other customers. Abstract: Companies consistently strive to prepare for new technologies for survival. In a rapidly changing market, absorbing innovation through cooperation strategies can complement internal research and development for new technology development. Startups with state-of-the-art technologies are good candidates for successful cooperation; however, it is difficult to identify their technological positions. Our study suggests a framework to identify appropriate startup candidates using startup profile texts provided by the Crunchbase database. We utilize a doc2vec approach to extract feature vectors representing technological meanings from the startup profile texts and patent abstracts of acquiring companies. Based on these vectors, we apply item-based collaborative filtering to estimate scores for technological similarity between a company and a startup to be acquired. Furthermore, we screen for promising startups using factor analysis, with variables representing the startup's potential. We believe that our framework can save time and effort in the early stage of cooperation planning by supporting effective decision-making. Collapse

Abstract: In the course of the ongoing digitalization of production, production environments have become increasingly intertwined with information and communication technology. As a consequence, physical production processes depend more and more on the availability of information networks. Threats such as attacks and errors can compromise the components of information networks. Due to the numerous interconnections, these threats can cause cascading failures and even cause entire smart factories to fail due to propagation effects. The resulting complex dependencies between physical production processes and information network components in smart factories complicate the detection and analysis of threats. Based on generalized stochastic Petri nets, the paper presents an approach that enables the modeling, simulation, and analysis of threats in information networks in the area of connected production environments. Different worst-case threat scenarios regarding their impact on the operational capability of a close-to-reality information network are investigated to demonstrate the feasibility and usability of the approach. Furthermore, expert interviews with an academic Petri net expert and two global leading companies from the automation and packaging industry complement the evaluation from a practical perspective. The results indicate that the developed artifact offers a promising approach to better analyze and understand availability risks, cascading failures, and propagation effects in information networks in connected production environments. Abstract: Enterprises are composed of an enormous number of elements (e.g., organizational units, human resources, production processes, and IT systems) typically classified in the business or the IT domain. However, some crucial elements do not belong in either group: they are directly responsible for producing and delivering the company's goods and services and include all the elements that support day to day operations. Collectively, these elements have been called operational technologies (OT) and have been conspicuously excluded from enterprise modeling (EM) approaches which traditionally have focused on the business and IT dimensions. Evidence of this is the absence of OT elements in languages and metamodels for EM. This is in line with the historical division between IT and OT in organizations that has led to information silos, independent teams, and disparate technologies that only recently have started to be reconciled. Considering that OT is critical to most productive organizations, and the benefits that EM brings to its understanding and improvement, it makes sense to expand EM to include OT. For that purpose, this paper proposes an extension to ArchiMate 3.0 which includes crucial OT elements. On top of that, this paper also proposes an approach to further expand ArchiMate to address specific industries where more specific OT elements are required. Thereby, they implement Shadow IT (SIT) to create flexible and innovative solutions. However, the individual implementation of SIT leads to high complexities and redundancies. Integration suggests itself to meet these challenges but can also eliminate the described benefits. In this emergent research, we develop propositions for a conceptual decision framework, that balances the benefits and drawbacks of an integration of SIT using a literature review as well as a multiple-case study. We thereby integrate the perspective of the overall organization as well as the specific business unit.
