Abstract: We examine the content of the official Facebook pages of 502 Italian municipalities over the period 2016–2018 to empirically infer the motivations of municipalities to use Facebook. Our inference is mostly based on the relationship between the main topics discussed by the municipalities on Facebook and the most related municipal expenses per capita, which are reported by function in municipal financial statements. Abstract: This paper proposes a model to predict when the subunits of a multidivisional firm implement a practice adopted by the firm more or less extensively, focusing on the intraorganizational environment. Drawing on institutional arguments, I propose that a subunit’s extent of practice implementation is a combined result of coercive pressures from its headquarters, imitation of its peer units, and its own perception of the practice’s legitimacy. More specifically, I argue that a subunit will implement new practices related to corporate social responsibility (CSR) more fully (1) when the corporate mandate from the headquarters is more pressing, (2) when its peer subunits have implemented similar actions, and (3) when the practice is perceived as consistent with the subunit’s own values. Regression results further suggest that peers and headquarters influence a subunit’s extent of implementation of a practice only when the subunit perceives it as highly consistent with its own values—a finding that points to the importance of values for practice legitimacy and the need to rethink practice implementation within complex organizations. Abstract: Blockchain is a recent certification technology with high transformative power in many business models, having a social impact by offering solutions that involve governance and sustainability. However, most articles in this area address the use of blockchain in the private trading of cryptocurrencies. This paper is a case study on a pioneer blockchain application in the management of the Green Treasure Program, which operates through an online platform for negotiating Forest Credits, a title issued from environmental services. The context of this analysis is the management of the Green Treasure in the State of Amapá, the Amazon region of Brazil, which has a complex and interesting reality for research: on the one hand, this region faces difficulties in attracting resources due to its socioeconomic isolation; in contrast, more than 90% of its territory is totally preserved. The purpose of this study is to discover the different objectives that can come from the perception of value, among the public and the private sector, during environmental services negotiation on a blockchain based platform. For this, we conduct qualitative research on the case study using the theory of public value and an interpretative perspective, seeking the understanding of the different objectives among the actors involved. The main contribution is to present the use of blockchain in government projects that promote sustainability, the main research gap identified. The results suggest that blockchain can provide security, transparency, and traceability in operations, critical factors for the government, and especially for attracting investors with different profiles. Abstract: Adopting patient-centric technology solutions is considered a critical enabler to enhance superior, high value healthcare delivery. Evidence from the literature underscores the simultaneous benefits of such an approach for enhancing the quality of care, increasing value and reducing associated costs. This study contributes to the current void in the literature by providing data from an implementation of a patient-centric solution that serves to deliver and support value based-care. Specifically, the presented study highlights how a point of care system can deliver high value patient-centric care across a healthcare group in Australia. The results from this qualitative study show that the examined point of care system supports patient-centric care by facilitating a high level of patient engagement and supporting key safety and quality care outcomes, as well as building a cultural shift towards patient-centric care as part of standard practice. The study has far reaching implications for both theory and practice. Collapse

Abstract: There is an increasing consensus that information systems (IS) design needs to consider effects related to environmental sustainability. While information technology (IT) can help solving environmental problems, it also causes environmental problems through emissions, wastage, and the consumption of renewable and nonrenewable resources throughout its lifecycle. Against this background, the notions of Green IT and Green IS have evolved. While the former primarily relates to the energy efficiency and equipment utilization of IT, the latter pertains to the design and implementation of information systems that contribute to sustainable business processes. In this paper, we explore how environmental sustainability can be considered in design science research. While traditionally design science research has focused on the utility of artifacts, we propose to also consider a design artifact’s environmental impact. We discuss how the design goal of sustainability relates to artifact utility and suggest a framework that describes two dimensions of design artifact environmental impact, namely direct and indirect environmental impacts. While the first pertains to effects of the physical existence of an IT artifact through its production, use, and disposal, the latter relates to the potential of the artifact to contribute to sustainable business processes. Abstract: An evolutionary framework is presented for spatial information technologies in business. The framework has the three dimensions of extent spatial applications are customer-facing, the extent geography influences the business, and the extent of presence of spatially-enabled web integration platform versus traditional spatial platform. The evolution of the framework over time is towards more customer-facing, greater extent of geography in the business, and greater extent of spatiallyenabled web integration platforms. The framework is tested by interviews of twenty case study companies that vary in size and industry. Case study methodology is utilized. The research question asks whether strategic spatial focus is related to one or more of the framework dimensions. Results indicate that greater strategic focus of a company is associated with increases of spatially-enabled web integration platforms and extent of geography in the business, but not with the extent spatial applications are customer-facing. The findings are compared to literature on frameworks of classifying spatially-enabled firms. Collapse
