Abstract: In this study, we explore prominent contemporary technology trajectories in the software industry and how they are expected to influence the work in the software industry. Consequently, we build on cultural lag theory to analyze how technological changes affect work in software development. We present the results from a series of expert interviews that were analyzed using the Gioia method. Moreover, we identify a set of technology trends pertinent to software development from which we derive four main changes affecting the future of work in software development: (1) a shift toward scalable solutions, (2) increased emphasis on data, (3) convergence of IT and non-IT industries, and (4) the cloud as the dominant computing paradigm. Accordingly, this study contains insights into how technology (as an element of material culture) influences non-material culture, as exemplified by the work involved in software development. Abstract: We propose a software architectural model, which uses reactive programming for collecting and filtering live tweets and interpreting their potential correlation to software vulnerabilities and exploits. We aim to investigate if we could discover the existence of exploits for disclosed vulnerabilities in Twitter data streams. Reactive programming is used for performing filtering and querying of tweets to find potential exploits. The result of processing Twitter data streams with reactive programming could be broadcast, by pointing towards potential exploits, which might create a cyber-attack. Collapse

Abstract: Model transformations have proved to be powerful in the development of critical systems. According to their intents, they have been used in many domains such as models refinement, simulation, and domain semantics. The formal methods have been successful in the verification and validation of critical systems, and in particular, in the formalization of UML, BPMN, and AADL. However, little research has been done on verifying the transformation itself. In this paper, we extend our previous work using Isabelle/HOL that transforms UML State Machine Diagrams (SMD) to Colored Petri nets (CPN) models and proves that certain structural properties of this transformation are correct. For example, the structural property: “for each final state of a SMD model a corresponding place in CPN model should be generated by the transformation” is described and checked using Isabelle/HOL as invariant property. In the current work, we use Scala as environment of executing Isabelle/HOL specifications and we perform the verified transformation using Scala. Moreover, we demonstrate our approach using another case study of transforming BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) models into Petri nets models and verify the correctness of certain structural properties of this transformation. Abstract: The authors describe on going research to uncover the architectonic nature of artefacts and see how these may be related to high-level, but also grounded, model of the original problem domain. We thus propose both a General Systems Architectural Model (GSAM) that reflects all the patterns of connectivity that may be found within any program and a Grounded Systems Engineering Method (GSEM) that captures the architecture of a problem domain. We hypothesis that there will be an isomorphism between the architecture of an artefact and the problem domain. We also hypothesis that for an artefact to be continually modified it has to conform to certain architectural features that can be abstracted from the domain. The purpose of the study is to examine a wide range of real programs (those designed for a job) and the problem domain that they address and from this examination determine the validity of the model and hypotheses by uncovering features and measures that define the architecture of the system. It is proposed that these features and measures could be used to make predictions about the flexibility, robustness and reliability of software. Such predictions would be used to formulate and close the design control loop. We hope that this work will lead to a universal constructional theory for systems. Collapse

Abstract: Convenient model management requires flexible model retrieval. This paper presents a new flexible retrieval approach for mathematical model bases. The approach defines a multi-valued model inheritance relationship among models at a signature level. The inheritance provides a rich semantic information for the retrieval mechanism to refine inexact retrieval requirements. An inheritance rules reasoning system is proposed to enhance the ability and the efficiency of the model retrieval. The interface of the approach includes an SQL-like command, which enables users to retrieve their required models with inexact requirement expressions. The approach has been implemented in a rule-based mathematical model base system RMMBS. Application examples demonstrate the retrieval approach. Collapse
