Abstract: This article contributes to the discussion on the governance dynamics of platform ecosystems. We take a broad perspective to understand how the environment beyond the platform ecosystem (i.e., external conditions) shapes the actions of the platform and its various actors in reinforcing platform boundaries. Prior work explored how external influences, such as societal norms and national and local regulations, influence platform ecosystems, including external competitive pressures. But studies on the broader set of potential influences from external conditions are lacking; in particular, a study of such conditions and their influence across platforms in light of boundary reinforcement is called for. Boundary reinforcement is critical for the identity and legitimacy of a platform and for longer-term platform sustenance. Using a fuzzy-set qualitative configurational analysis (fsQCA) method with input coded from 271 peer-reviewed research articles covering 29 platforms, we offer a model detailing how external conditions influence a platform's boundary reinforcement actions. Abstract: To cope with the digital transition exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, managers of manufacturing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) need to adopt innovative practices to face uncertain scenarios and create longterm value, identified as transformational entrepreneurship practices. Among emerging digital technologies, digital platforms are shaping and outgrowing the e-commerce channel representing a potential opportunity for manufacturing SMEs to embrace digital transformation. Drawing on affordance theory, this research uses a mixed method approach to investigate how manufacturing SMEs’ e-commerce commitment and digital platform adoption stimulate the actualization of three e-commerce affordances: consumer knowledge generation, inter nationalization, and customer diversification. Based on survey responses from 165 manufacturing SME man agers, we find that direct selling through owned websites actualizes consumer knowledge generation and internationalization, indirect selling actualizes customer diversification and internationalization, and agency selling through third-party platforms actualizes all three affordances. The relationship between e-commerce commitment and ecommerce performance is mediated by consumer knowledge generation and internationali zation but not by customer diversification. A fsQCA analysis outlines seven configurations actualizing these ecommerce affordances by pairing different ecommerce approaches with degrees of e-commerce commitment. Finally, an analysis of open-ended questions from 24 respondents complements the study and deeply interprets the seven unique configurations outlined. Collapse

Abstract: The business analytics and strategic management literatures suggest that organizations should seek to exploit data as a key mechanism for competitive advantage. However, the rules of engagement are evolving, the regulatory landscape is becoming increasingly complex, and ex amples of poor outcomes are increasingly common. The board – in its role of setting and moni toring risk appetite – needs to be able to govern the risk/reward trade-off of the data asset. Contemporary data governance approaches are inadequate: they are overly rigid and risk ori ented, limited in scope to an organization’s self-interest rather than considering the broad set of stakeholders, and do not provide a platform for the board to manage this critical risk. This paper uses a unique set of informants – 41 board directors – to demonstrate that differences in board perspectives influence how organizations explore the secondary use of data. Furthermore, this paper identifies a set of relevant individual, organizational and environmental factors and pre sents empirically based configurations of these factors that lead organizations to consider (or neglect) the secondary use of data as a critical enabler of competitive advantage. Abstract: Constantly evolving economic demands caused by phenomena such as digital transformation necessitate businesses and their underlying models to adapt. One possible solution for enhancing innovation potential and increasing revenue is implementing an innovation capability maturity model. This research replicates an existing maturity model development approach, which accounts for the unique characteristics of a class of companies based on their size and sector. Thus, by using a data-driven method, we provide an innovation capability maturity model for small industrial companies. We identified 21 combinations of factors that can affect innovation capability maturity, grouped into a knowledge and organizational dimension. Using a set-theoretic approach, we identified configurations of these factors that lead to low, medium, and high levels of innovation capability maturity. Based on these findings, we support an empirically driven, set-theoretic approach for developing a maturity model that can be used for higher applicability and representativity in individual classes of companies. Abstract: Literature has shown that business-information technology (IT) alignment can exert both positive and negative influences on organizational agility, giving rise to the IT alignment-agility paradox. To better understand this paradox at a more granular level, we conceptualize the sensing and responding dimensions of organizational agility as two independent constructs and suggest a nonlinear analytical approach. Based on configurational and contextual perspectives, this study investigates how intellectual and social alignment and organizational and environmental elements combine into multiple configurations to affect sensing and responding capabilities. Fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) is used to analyze the survey data from 135 dyads of business and IT executives from the Chinese shipbuilding industry. Results show that different equifinal pathways can be used to achieve high sensing and responding capabilities, in which intellectual and social alignment play heterogeneous roles depending on the specific contexts. This study extends the ITenabled agility literature by deepening our understanding of the effects of multidimensional IT alignment on multidimensional organizational agility and providing new insights into the IT alignment-agility paradox. Abstract: Supplier reliability and order fulfilment performance are usually assessed using a perfect-order calculation. In formation management of perfect-order estimation is frequently reduced to expert estimates and to the multi plication of probabilities of failure-free performance of some logistics operations. Moreover, perfect-order estimation is calculated without consideration of supply chain structure, possible combinations of failures, and operational policies (e.g., safety stock levels and alternative transportation routes). As a result, the existing methods frequently provide different estimates for the same statistics and cannot be consistently used in the allocation of companies’ resources to improve the order fulfilment process. This paper considers different var iants of probabilistic assessment of a perfect order and proposes an approach to assess the impact of changes in parameter probabilities and number of parameters on the value of a perfect order. The proposed models are based on an analytical approach using discrete distributions of random variables. We illustrate the applicability of our approach to several numerical examples to confirm the adequacy of the proposed method. Our approach can be immediately applied in practice to assess supply and order fulfilment process reliability and to evaluate the effectiveness of various operational policies (safety stock levels or modes of transportation) to achieve some planned values of a perfect order in the supply chain. Abstract: The phenomenon of Technostress (TS) -the stress experienced by end-users of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) -is often considered as a dark side of technology use. TS creators, factors that create TS, is a second-order construct with dimensions techno-overload, techno-invasion, techno-complexity, techno-insecurity, and techno-uncertainty. This study takes a holistic approach by proposing how the complex interactions among individual characteristics, IT features, and environmental factors influence employees' perceptions of TS creators. Based on past research, we include three personality traits, i.e., neuroticism, personal innovativeness in IT, and IT mindfulness for individual characteristics. Additionally, two technological features, presenteeism and anonymity are considered, while literacy facilitation, technical support provision, and social support are the environmental factors. Data will be collected using an online survey from full-time employees and analyzed using fuzzy sets qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). Abstract: Linguistic variables are flexible and intuitive attraction for expressing the wording of decision makers. This paper introduces a new type of linguistic fuzzy sets called linguistic dual hesitant fuzzy sets to express the hesitancy of decision makers’ qualitative preferences and non-preferences. Considering the application in decision making, linguistic dual hesitant fuzzy preference relations (LDHFPRs) are introduced that permit the decision makers to apply several linguistic variables to indicate a qualitative preferred judgment and a qualitative non-preferred judgment, respectively. To rank objects from LDHFPRs rationally, a consistency concept is first presented. Then, two optimal models are built to judge the consistency of LDHFPRs. When LDHFPRs are inconsistent, an optimal model-based iteration algorithm for obtaining consistent LDHFPRs is offered. Based on consistent linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy preference relations, a method for calculating the weighted linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy priority vector is introduced. In the setting of group decision making (GDM), a consensus measure based on individually weighted consistent reverse complementary linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy preference relations is defined. When the consensus does not satisfy the requirement, a two-step optimal model-based method for increasing the consensus level is offered. Furthermore, an approach for GDM with LDHFPRs is developed. Finally, an illustrative example concerning the evaluation of basic services internet enterprise websites is provided to show the efficiency of the new method. Collapse

Abstract: Cheating in online games poses a risk to game publishers, as it deters other gamers and reduces revenues. These facts make it essential for game publishers to understand 'who' in the sense of gamers with what personalities have cheating intentions. Building on psychology research, we draw on (a) the big five personality traits and (b) the dark triad personality traits to explain how these reflect gamers' personalities and together lead to cheating intentions. Following a configurational approach (N=192), we reveal two configurations leading to high cheating intention and one leading to low cheating intention. We contribute to online gaming research by revealing that gamers with cheating intentions have specific personalities. We advance information systems (IS) personality research by combining broad and dark triad traits to explain divergent behavior like cheating. Collapse
