Abstract: This study examines how an individual cognitively generates creative ideas using mobile collaboration platforms (MCPs). Applying the cognitive creativity perspective and the knowledge of the idiosyncratic capabilities of MCPs, the study proposes a research model that explains MCP-driven creative idea generation mechanisms. The model is validated using a field study where individuals were involved in a group collaboration setting for a cognitively challenging task. The results indicate that the use of an MCP positively supports an individual’s creative idea generation process through cognitive warming-up processes (spontaneity effect) and behavioral autonomy (freedom effect). Abstract: Crowdsourcing holds great potential: macro-task crowdsourcing can, for example, contribute to work addressing climate change. Macro-task crowdsourcing aims to use the wisdom of a crowd to tackle non-trivial tasks such as wicked problems. However, macro-task crowdsourcing is labor-intensive and complex to facilitate, which limits its efficiency, effectiveness, and use. Technological advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) might overcome these limits by supporting the facilitation of crowdsourcing. However, AI’s potential for macro-task crowdsourcing facilitation needs to be better understood for this to happen. Here, we turn to affordance theory to develop this understanding. Affordances help us describe action possibilities that characterize the relationship between the facilitator and AI, within macro-task crowdsourcing. We follow a two-stage, bottom-up approach: The initial development stage is based on a structured analysis of academic literature. The subsequent validation & refinement stage includes two observed macro-task crowdsourcing initiatives and six expert interviews. From our analysis, we derive seven AI affordances that support 17 facilitation activities in macro-task crowdsourcing. We also identify specific manifestations that illustrate the affordances. Our findings increase the scholarly understanding of macro-task crowdsourcing and advance the discourse on facilitation. Further, they help practitioners identify potential ways to integrate AI into crowdsourcing facilitation. These results could improve the efficiency of facilitation activities and the effectiveness of macro-task crowdsourcing. Collapse

Abstract: Although initial adoption of an information system has been shown to influence system success, further value can be obtained when end-users move beyond adoption, utilizing more features of the system and integrating it into their work routines. Organizations can increase the post-deployment utilization of their systems by emphasizing continued interaction between developers and end-users. In this study, we develop a research model investigating the influence of shared understanding, faithfulness of appropriation, and consensus on spirit on post-deployment system utilization. Using a sample from a healthcare organization, we show that increased end-user postdeployment interaction with developers supports a shared understanding between the two groups, which ultimately impacts both the routinization and infusion of a system. This study provides a contribution by demonstrating the impact of developer/user interaction in the post-implementation phase of systems development. Collapse

Abstract: Innovation scholars have long been discussing social media as a rich source of information, knowledge, and new ideas, yet, whether or how social media can directly intervene with organizational ideation processes remains unclear. In this study, we investigate the impact of external and enterprise social media platforms on organizational ideation. Grounded in 79 cases and adapting social capital theory in social media contexts, this study attempts to develop a theory of social ideation. Social ideation consists of social media-enabled mechanisms that generate social capital, enable multi-level social exchanges, foster idea co-creation activities such as idea sourcing, filtering, elaboration, and integration, and ultimately lead to effective ideation. Our study contributes to social media and innovation research by revealing the intermediary mechanisms that link the use of social media platforms to organizational ideation performance. Collapse

Abstract: This paper examines how a deeper understanding of procedural justice and interactional justice can enhance the effectiveness of causal mapping workshops using Group Explorer® software combined with the Decision Explorer® tool. A dual facilitation model is outlined that explicitly links the determinates of procedural justice and the key elements of interactional justice to the stages of causal mapping workshops. This model serves to illustrate how the participants’ voice in group workshops using causal mapping is strengthened, producing an authentic outcome that more accurately represents participants’ thinking. Enabling the determinants in the model supports the dimensions of procedural and interactional justice, ensuring these more authentic outcomes. A link between these determinants, dimensions and the workshop process is confirmed through qualitative and quantitative analysis. The qualitative analysis draws on causal maps created with relevant concepts/ statements, highlighted to illustrate this more authentic voice. The quantitative work analyses responses to a post-workshop questionnaire using scale reduction techniques and looks for significant relationships between participants’ voice and the determinants of procedural justice, interactional justice and the causal mapping approach adopted. Abstract: This paper serves as an overview of IS research on artificial intelligence and the organizational interaction with such systems, from a socio-technical perspective. Therefore, we conduct a structured literature review of relevant outlets (journals and conferences). We show that the literature can be synthesized into four groups: decision-making, interaction, knowledge management, and economic effects of AI. Further focusing on the second group, we identify certain dimensions of interaction research: technological implementation, collaborative factors, interface design, task allocation, task support, process allocation, and learning. From this analysis, a framework is derived. With this article, we contribute to the AI, the socio-technical systems, and the organizational interactions-literature in IS research, but most importantly, we offer a novel socio-technical perspective on AI. Abstract: Enterprise collaboration systems (ECS) have become the core of the digital workplace in many organizations. More and more companies have introduced this new business software for supporting computer-mediated collaboration among employees. The emergence of ECS in the technical and strategical landscape of com­ panies leads to new challenges in business intelligence and reporting. In contrast to traditional business software such as ERP systems, there are no established methods for decision-making in ECS projects. The collaboration professionals responsible for managing the ECS require insights into the use of an ECS to understand how em­ ployees use these systems. By developing the Social Collaboration Analytics Framework, this work provides a framework for establishing the analysis of collaboration activities in the digital workplace (social collaboration analytics) as part of organizations' business intelligence. The Social Collaboration Analytics Framework consists of distinct phases and guides the analysis of ECS data. It includes working steps, recommendations, and guiding questions developed based on the findings from longitudinal research in a university-industry collaboration context and a comparison of established data mining process models. Abstract: Applications of technology that contribute to managing decision-making teams for their objectives benefit from an explicit account of microprocessing in the information exchange of team members. While negative evaluations are well recognized as a key information type in this exchange, the micro-processing that underlies its exchange has not been well defined. Negative evaluations will be proposed to differ from other information types because of their dual properties as information and affect. We propose dynamics that are implied by the duality in negative evaluations we cite and report empirical studies that test abstract generalizations on the proposed dynamics. We then give an explicit form to exchange of negative evaluations in a numerical model of information exchange and use the model in exercises that directly demonstrate the proposed properties of negative evaluations in information exchange. Finally, we review contributions that the discourse offers to the design of AI-supported GDSSs for managerial objectives in the exchange of information in ill-structured decision making and introduce architecture of a prototype GDSS that implements quality-maximizing information exchange. Abstract: Efficient building and maintenance of user networks is a fundamental problem for the management of open-access information systems whose business model relies directly on social impact. This article presents a methodology of user community building and management for cloud-based AI-enabled knowledge repositories (AILPs) which are considered a relevant part of enterprise learning ecosystems. Their assessment is based on the number of users, user engagement and satisfaction. Therefore, the indicators of user community growth are a basis for evaluating the quality of IS management and services. To optimize IS business performance, we applied a social impact model, derived from multi-level simulation and a self-contained multicriteria analysis framework. The model combines controlled discrete-event systems, learning cellular automata, and anticipatory decision support. These all serve to optimize user network development strategies. The primary application of this model is the exploitation of an innovative digital knowledge platform, developed within a recent Horizon 2020 research project. Collapse
