Abstract: A big data analytics-enabled transformation model based on practice-based view is developed, which reveals the causal relationships among big data analytics capabilities, IT-enabled transformation practices, benefit dimensions, and business values. This model was then tested in healthcare setting. By analyzing big data implementation cases, we sought to understand how big data analytics capabilities transform organizational practices, thereby generating potential benefits. In addition to conceptually defining four big data analytics capabilities, the model offers a strategic view of big data analytics. Three significant path-to-value chains were identified for healthcare organizations by applying the model, which provides practical insights for managers. Collapse

Abstract: Perceived privacy risks are an important factor for the adoption of consumer health wearables. However, little is known about the nature of those risk perceptions. We develop a perceived privacy risk taxonomy, which is derived based on an established numerical approach in biology. We apply a four-step mixed-method taxonomy development process to empirically explore privacy perceptions of consumer health wearables. 60 hours of interviews with two different samples, multidimensional scaling, property fitting, and qualitative data analysis enable us to uncover the structure of the mental perception of respondents’ privacy risk perceptions. Our taxonomy reveals that the most relevant dimensions to distinguish consumer health wearables according to the respondents’ perceptions of privacy risks refer to the perceived data sensitivity, perceived data variety, and perceived tracking activity. The developed taxonomy helps researchers to enhance the understanding of privacy perceptions of consumer health wearables and provides practitioners with a comprehensive nomenclature. Collapse

Abstract: The cacophony of criticisms emanating from an organization facing an information technology-enabled transformation can be deafening and deleterious. This is especially true in healthcare in the US, where information systems investments are typically huge and often perceived by change resistant stakeholders as disruptive or even potentially life threatening. We describe how the IS implementation process itself contributed to organizational transformation in terms of changes in coordination, culture, and learning at a successful organization, Sentara Healthcare, which transformed the discordant cacophony of the change process into a harmonious implementation.
