Abstract: Second-generation mobile instant messaging (SMIM) is a new structure of social media facilitated by the widespread use of smartphones. It is embedded in social networks and support fundamental functions. However, tie strength, as a social network configuration, is ignored in existing SMIM studies. The present work incorporates the effect of tie strength into expectation-confirmation model, proposing the continuance intention model in the unique context of SMIM and investigating the potential driving forces (i.e., users’ satisfaction, tie strength, confirmation of values, and perceived critical mass). Results show that tie strength appears to be a negative moderating force between satisfaction and continuance intention in SMIM services and arises from the confirmation of social value. In particular, the confirmation of sense of belonging has the strongest association with tie strength enhancement, while the confirmation of self-expression is the most important driver of satisfaction. Both satisfaction and perceived critical mass directly contribute to continuance intention of SMIM users, and perceived critical mass has a stronger impact. Collapse

Abstract: Drawing from status quo bias theory and coping theory, this study examines how the inertial use of incumbent web payment (WP) services influences users’ intention to use new mobile payment (MP) services. By conducting an online survey (n = 491), this study reveals that inertia demonstrates triple effects on intention to use MP services: direct, bias, and moderating. The direct effect suggests that inertia directly decreases intention to use MP. The bias effect means that inertia leads to biased assessment of perceived value and perceived threat, thereby decreasing intention to use MP. The moderating effect denotes that inertia strengths the relationship between perceived controllability and intention to use MP. We expect that these findings can provide noteworthy insights for the intervention and prevention of inertia in the web-mobile payment transition context. Collapse

Abstract: The development and sale of massively multiplayer online games has emerged as a significant part of the 21st century entertainment industry. Yet, firms competing in this sector of the videogame industry vary in their ability to generate revenue from their products. We contend that social influence constitutes one primary factor that determines which massively multiplayer online game individuals consume. Using social identity theory for our theoretical underpinning, we argue that the identity that membership in important social groups provides influences individuals. We investigate the effects that two identity-related constructs, consumer-brand identification and social identity complexity, have on satisfaction and willingness to pay a subscription fee for a massively multiplayer online game. Our results suggest that social influence has a complex relationship with an individual’s willingness to pay. Consumerbrand identification and social identity complexity had significant direct relationships with willingness to pay, while consumer-brand identification had a significant indirect relationship with willingness to pay through satisfaction. Additionally, social identity complexity significantly moderated the relationship between consumer-brand identification and willingness to pay. Overall, our results support social identity theory’s ability to explain how social influence occurs for individuals that play massively multiplayer online games. Collapse

Abstract: Partial least squares (PLS) is one of the most popular statistical techniques in use in the Information Systems field. When applied to data originating from a common factor model, as is often the case in the discipline, PLS will produce biased estimates. A recent development, consistent PLS (PLSc), has been introduced to correct for this bias. In addition, the common practice in PLS of comparing the ratio of an estimate to its standard error to a t distribution for the purposes of statistical inference has also been challenged. We contribute to the practice of research in the IS discipline by providing evidence of the value of employing bootstrap confidence intervals in conjunction with PLSc, which is a more appropriate alternative than PLS for many of the research scenarios that are of interest to the field. Such evidence is direly needed before a complete approach to the estimation of SEM that relies on both PLSc and bootstrap CIs can be widely adopted. We also provide recommendations for researchers on the use of confidence intervals with PLSc. Collapse

Abstract: Self-service technologies (SST) such as online check-ins are more and more becoming an integral part of our daily routines. However, while kiosk SST such as automated teller machines in banking are widely used, mobile SST are just beginning to capture the market. Enforcing customers to switch from kiosk to mobile SST sometimes still turns out to be difficult due to routine seeking, privacy risks, or fear of complex user interfaces. As a result, users are locked into a status quo and do not switch to mobile technologies. Thus, there is a need to better understand why customers switch from kiosk to mobile SST. Against this background, the aim of this paper is to gain a better understanding of the factors influencing customers’ intention to switch from kiosk to mobile SST. We investigate the positive and negative determinants, which constitute the positive and negative valence of mobile SST as factors influencing the intention to switch. Our study expands existing research by outlining the particular importance of the positive valence for the customers’ intention to switch. We further show that multifunctionality, compatibility with the lifestyle, and enjoyment constitute the most crucial positive determinants rather than prestige reasons. Collapse

Abstract: Despite extensive research, the degree to which organizations are successful in creating strategic advantage with ERP systems, and the factors that distinguish successful and unsuccessful ERP implementations are still equivocal. Using a lens of the Resource-Based View of the firm, and following studies that suggest that IT become valuable over time when they interact with other organizational resources and capabilities, we hypothesize that the creation of the intellectual capital (IC) that can lead to strategic advantage is related to the scope of ERP implementation. We examine how ERP implementation can be used to create IC, moderated by the presence of organizational learning capability (OLC). Yet with increased environmental volatility, companies need to become more agile in identifying and responding to market- and technology-based challenges. Accordingly, a responsive and high-performance ICT infrastructure remains a top priority for firms. Abstract: Multisensory marketing has been seen as an approach improving advertising effect in the social science, neuroscience, and marketing literature. For examining visual/audio synesthesia, the effect of smelling and tasting an online product, this study first developed design elements of digital video advertising: rational/emotional appeals and fast/slow tempo. Moreover, it strives to investigate empirically the effects of various online advertisement contexts on consumer emotion, attitude, and behavioral intention. We used event-related potentials (ERPs) in a scenario-based laboratory experiments. Data collected from 166 customers provide strong support for the research model. Through EEG and SEM analyses, in rational advertisings, consumers’ olfactory was triggered and both arousal and pleasure of the emotions affected the attitudes; in emotional advertisings, not only olfactory but gustatory were triggered and only pleasure affected the attitudes. By understanding online advertising design and synesthesia, insights from the findings can benefit designers and marketers in implementing more effective marketing strategies. Collapse

Abstract: We propose a model of security governance that draws upon agency theory to conceptualize the InfoSec function as a fiduciary for business users. We introduce a ternary typology of governance and test the efficacy of governance on goal congruence and information asymmetry. Our survey of information security managers finds that: (1) governance enhances goal congruence but does not impact information asymmetry, and (2) perceived information security service effectiveness is positively related to both information asymmetry and goal congruence. Contrary to what agency theory suggests, in the InfoSec context, information asymmetry can be exactly what is needed to enhance the principal's welfare.
