Abstract: This paper reports the preliminary findings of a netnographic case study that investigates how online brand defending and attacking behaviours are influenced by ideological polarisation. Mirror, a Cantopop group from Hong Kong that pro-Beijing Internet users have targeted, has been selected as the subject of this study. Our preliminary findings show that online brand defending and attacking behaviours for or against a brand may be explained by a modified, looped Belief-Action-Outcome (BAO) framework under ideological polarisation, which complements existing research on Internet users' impact on brand management and sheds light on politically-driven online brand-attacking behaviours. Results also show that brand-attacking behaviours would further polarise, and thus de-stabilise society. We plan to collect and incorporate further data for more in-depth analyses for building a holistic model to explain the relationships of ideological polarisation on brand defending and attacking behaviours, and their impacts on business and organisation strategies. Abstract: Initial coin offerings (ICOs) and initial exchange offerings (IEOs) are distinct blockchain-based token offerings. Following multiple frauds associated with decentralized and unregulated ICOs, IEOs are emerging as a novel pathway that relies on centralized crypto exchange platforms acting as intermediaries. However, the question as to how this shift affects fundraising processes in what has traditionally been a decentralized environment remains unresolved. We here address this issue by empirically comparing the performance of ICOs and IEOs through the lens of signaling theory, focusing specifically on the impact of social media information across 305 token offerings (ICOs and IEOs). Our work introduces IEOs and explains how and why the volume and sentiment of social media signals may serve as predictors of fundraising performance. We furthermore find that the impact of these electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) media signals is reduced in the case of IEOs—in the presence of a central cryptocurrency exchange platform mediator. We delineate implications for investors, ventures, platform providers, and regulators alike. Collapse

Abstract: In the contemporary remote work environment, the demand for effective and timely feedback has significantly grown. Despite the adoption of feedback systems, many employees still find these platforms lacking in delivering meaningful insights. This study delves into the potential of digital nudges-reminder notifications sent to users-as a strategy to enhance feedback contributions on mobile platforms. A randomized field experiment was conducted in collaboration with a prominent organization, exploring variations in nudge send times and the emphasis on task significance. Spanning five weeks, the experiment evaluated the efficacy of these nudges in fostering feedback engagement among employees. Our findings indicate that the timing, content of nudges (i.e., task significance message), and a combination of these two, can significantly influence feedback behavior. The study's findings have potential implications for organizations aiming to bolster their feedback systems, making them more responsive and effective in the digital age. Collapse

Abstract: Acknowledging the global relevance of controlling corruption, our study contributes to the existing body of literature by exploring the relationship between E-Government (EGOV) and Corruption Control at the EGOV subindices level. Toward this, we draw upon theoretical insights from Resource-Based View (RBV), Media Lit­ eracy Theory, Agency Theory, Information Quality, and Transaction Cost Theory to derive a set of testable hypotheses. Using a panel dataset comprising 102 countries, we employ a Linear Mixed Effects (LME) estimation method to thoroughly investigate and uncover the relative effectiveness of EGOV subindices in controlling corruption. Abstract: In Cognitive Fit Theory (CFT) based research, there is a consensus about cognitive effort as the underlying mechanism impacting performance. Although critical to the theory, cognitive effort and its direct empirical assessment remain a challenge. In this repeated measures experimental study, we introduce a research model and develop hypotheses based on the fundamental relationships underlying CFT while integrating eye tracking as an approach for assessing cognitive effort. Our study finds that eye tracking technology, specifically fixation-based metrics, can be used in the understanding of cognitive processes initiated by our data representation choices. Specifically, we find that in all tasks except the complex-symbolic task, users experience meaningful change in the physiological assessment of cognitive effort based on the condition of cognitive fit. We contrast our findings to existing research and find that physiological indicators of cognitive effort can provide critical insights often missed in traditional CFT research. Collapse

Abstract: As data breaches continue to rise, customers exhibit heterogeneous expectations regarding the company's response. Universal responses can show backfire effects since they fail to meet the expectations. Thus, the challenge arises that customer expectations must be known to mitigate the consequences while time is limited to publish the data breach announcement. By drawing on service failure, data breach, and justice research, we theorize that customer involvement provides a viable approach to this challenge. We argue that active customer involvement allows customers to formulate their expectations. Thus, enabling companies to leverage these expectations to provide tailored data breach responses. We test our hypotheses in a digital experiment (n=304). Our results provide a first indication that active customer involvement in a data breach drives positive group value and negative self-interest effects. We contribute to the data breach literature by revealing that customer involvement constitutes a suitable mechanism for identifying customer expectations. Collapse

Abstract: The global market uptake of the fourth generation-Long-Term Evolution (4G-LTE) Mobile Broadband (MoBro) services are steadily rising, leading to higher capital investments by mobile network operators (MNOs) to scale-up their infrastructure for meeting the impending demand for MoBro data the world over. However, MNOs face uncertainties about financial returns from such investments, owing to a host of technological and market-related factors, which impact the enablement of such 4G-LTE MoBro services. These challenges are clearly evident in the Indian market. Firstly, 4G-LTE subscribers in the rural India contribute to less than one-third of the overall market size. Secondly, India performs poorly in terms of minimum capacity requirements of the 4G-LTE MoBro services. Thirdly, the rise in per-user consumption of MoBro data does not translate into a similar rise in the MNOs’ revenue. Fourthly, the socio-economic-geographic segregation of India into twenty-two administrative zones (referred to as telecom circles) add to the complexities in the capital investment decisions of MNOs. To address the above challenges, we model various cost and profitability scenarios of a hypothetical MNO providing universal 4G-LTE deployment across the twenty-two telecom circles in India using the available spectrum bands. Our proposed model is firmly established in the “network investment economics” framework for telecom innovations. We adopt a technology diffusion-based approach to forecast the 4G-LTE subscribers in India. We focus on the requirements of 4G-LTE MoBro infrastructure investments, including the spectrum selection decisions by MNOs, and show that, for valuation of the spectrum, the policymakers in India need to take into account the potential of the spectrum in terms of financial returns to an MNO deploying 4G-LTE using that spectrum, as against merely valuing the spectrum based on primarily the technical characteristics of its carrier frequency and benchmarks of prior spectrum auction prices in a particular telecom circle. Finally, we also show that a nationwide 4G-LTE network, which is universal, inclusive, and adhering to the global standards in terms of service quality, can be financially lucrative for MNOs, if enabled by appropriate policies instituting collaborative frameworks for infrastructure sharing, and price rationalization of spectrum bands across the twenty-two telecom circles. This paper proposes a gradual-coverage game describing the situation of locating emergency facilities, to which the Shapley value can be used to evaluate the candidate locations. To be specific, the rescue risk and utility are assessed in terms of the response time to construct a gradual-coverage game. Then, we characterize the Shapley value by proposing two new axioms. Furthermore, to ensure that the analytical model can be practically applied to real-world situations, an algorithm for locating emergency facilities is designed based on the properties of the Shapley value, which is then tested for efficiency. This research focused on two questions centered around a difference in users' visual attention, performance, and cognitive effort between pie chart visual properties and design variations. Two experiments were conducted with 30 participants each. Experiments found there was a variation in performance (accuracy error and time) and effort (fixation count and duration) across pie chart visual properties.
