Abstract: Driven by the growing integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into daily work, this study investigates the Human-Intelligent Personal Assistants (IPAs) coregulation of work-life practices. Guided by an interpretive case study of Microsoft Viva Insights (MVI), we focus on the participation and influence ofIPAs in daily work-life practices. Our findings reveal three coregulatory roles adopted by IPAsrationalist, normalist, and moralist-that influence personal productivity, social bonding and relationship management, self-care, and work-life boundary management practices. By diving deeper into the human-AI relationship from a coregulation perspective, we contribute to the emerging IS literature on the nature and role of AI in transforming how people work. Our research provides valuable insights for practitioners, developers, and scholars aiming to enhance AI design and management, and investigate AI's broader impact on human behaviours at work. Abstract: The substantial attention of extended reality (XR) technology poses challenges for multichannel retailers. On the one hand, retailers' adoption of XR can enhance consumers' online shopping experience and stimulate their purchases. On the other hand, XR technology replace the necessity for multichannel retailers to operate physical stores, which reflects the need to optimize channel structures while adopting XR. To ascertain how the multichannel retailers can outperform under such circumstances, this study combines the data sources of online website information and offline transaction information for over 1,100 global multichannel retailers from 2018 to 2022, thus involves 13497 monthly-brand observations. By using the fixed-effects model, the current study found that XR adoption duration has a non-linear impact on offline store conversion rate, which can initially increase customers' purchase decision in offline stores, but then turns to result in the negative impacts. Moreover, there are nuanced effects for XR with and without the affordance of create-ability. Findings of the paper aims to provide managerial implications for multichannel retailers to optimize channel structure and adopt XR technology for creating positive cross-channel synergy. Collapse

Abstract: During crisis situations, emergency operators require fast information access to achieve situation awareness and make the best possible decisions. Augmented reality could be used to visualize the wealth of user-generated content available on social media and enable context-adaptive functions for emergency operators. Although emergency operators agree that social media analytics will be important for their future work, it poses a challenge to filter and visualize large amounts of social media data. We conducted a goal-directed task analysis to identify the situation awareness requirements of emergency operators. By collecting tweets during two storms in Germany we evaluated the usefulness of Twitter data for achieving situation awareness and conducted interviews with emergency operators to derive filter strategies for social media data. We synthesized the results by discussing how the unique interface of augmented reality can be used to integrate social media data into emergency control rooms for situation awareness support. Abstract: Open Social Innovation (OSI) involves the collaboration of multiple stakeholders to generate ideas, and develop and scale solutions to make progress on societal challenges. In an OSI project, stakeholders share data and information, utilize it to better understand a problem, and combine data with digital technologies to create digitally-enabled solutions. Consequently, data gover­ nance is essential for orchestrating an OSI project to facilitate the coordination of innovation. Because OSI brings multiple stakeholders together, and each stakeholder participates voluntarily, data governance in OSI has a distributed nature. In this essay we put forward a framework consisting of three dimensions allowing an inquiry into the effectiveness of such distributed data governance: (1) openness (i.e., freely sharing data and information), (2) accountability (i.e., willingness to be held responsible and provide justifications for one's conduct) and (3) power (i.e., resourceful actors' ability to impact other stakeholder's actions). We apply this framework to reflect on the OSI project #WirVsVirus (“We versus virus” in English), to illustrate the challenges in organizing effective distributed data governance, and derive implications for research and practice. Abstract: The lack of understandability of AI-based decisions is increasingly posing trust-related and regulatory problems. This also applies to the educational sector, where AI is a central element of modern automated essay scoring (AES) systems. However, current research on explainable AI primarily focuses on complex technical approaches. These explanations usually show a lack of understandability by the actual users, who often have no knowledge of AI. Based on an experiment with 245 students at a German university, we were able to show that even the basic principles of user interface design can improve understandability and hereby trustworthiness. Thus, the use of visual elements promotes understandability even when only little information is provided. Especially when providing further AI-specific information on the scoring of AES systems, however, it must be considered that in combination with visual elements an information congruency can be observed, leading to a cognitive overload in the worst case. Abstract: Social media provides great opportunities to engage with content based on commenting or liking. Especially confirmation bias was found to be highly influential in engaging with content. However, social media also imposes privacy risks on its users. Past research found that trust in the platform facilitates, while privacy risk beliefs reduce engagement on social media. However, research did not address how confirmation bias interacts with privacy concepts on social media. To address this research gap, we conducted a scenario-based study and manipulated confirmation bias in the context of COVID-19 vaccination. The results show that privacy risk beliefs are heavily diminished under confirmation bias to the point where trusting beliefs dominate. We provide a novel view of the influence on commenting and liking by entangling another piece of the privacy paradox. Collapse

Abstract: Online retailers are increasingly focused on maintaining a long-term relationship with customers, encouraging repeat visits rather than single-time purchases to increase customer lifetime value. To help retailers maximize the probabilities of customers' revisiting and purchasing, we develop a two-stage model to better characterize and predict these two fundamental customer activities. In the first stage, we characterize the propensity of a customer revisiting the retailer's website. In the second stage, we develop a stochastic model that predicts revisits while also incorporating individual customer heterogeneity in exerted search effort during repeated visits. This heterogeneity is based on individual customer preferences in the choice of consideration sets, product information, pricing, and the search environment. Using customer level clickstream data, we show that our approach is not only better at predicting repeat customer visits, compared to existing methods, but also explainable and managerially interpretable. Most importantly, using computationally efficient simulation-based prescriptive analytics, we leverage our modeling approach to propose practical intervention strategies that maximize the joint likelihoods of customers revisiting and purchasing at the individual customer level. Abstract: Recommendation systems are widely used to promote product visibility and sales. However, past research suggests that they primarily benefit market superstars and therefore, can be detrimental to niche products. This is especially critical in superstar dominated markets such as the market of mobile apps. This study incorporates social network analysis and econometric models to empirically examine the impact of content-based filtering (CBF) recommendation systems on the distribution of demand in mobile app markets. The analysis results of two comprehensive panel datasets from App Store and Google Play suggest that CBF recommendations favor niche items and effectively boost the long tail of the market. Moreover, consistent with signaling theory, relative quality signals provided by recommendation systems can impact consumer decision making process, leading to a spillover of demand. Our findings provide important implications for developers and market operators to better promote their products in the highly competitive market of mobile apps. Collapse

Nowadays, users tend to search for information on the Internet before making purchase decisions. How to provide personalized services while avoiding information overload has gradually become an important issue. This study proposes a dialogue-based personalized recommendation mechanism with opinion intelligence. In addition to understanding user preferences through dialogue and interaction with users, we further analyze the content of reviews and the social influence of review authors to better help users. Abstract: As consumers increasingly engage in online brand communities, the demand of brand-related activities (e.g., finding relevant product information and sharing product information) also increases. Consumers may feel overwhelmed by these brand-related activities. To provide an understanding of this phenomenon, we concep­ tualize it as brand overload and then empirically examine its antecedents and consequences based upon the Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) framework in the context of online brand community. Using two rounds of surveys to collect data from 409 American consumers, our results show that consumer-generated content and social interaction quality are the primary drivers of information and social overload. Consumer-generated content quality has a quadratic effect on information overload following an inverted U shape. Social interac­ tion quality also significantly affects social overload following an inverted U-shaped relationship. Information and social overload are both positively related to brand overload, which in turn leads to brand disloyalty as the negative consequence. In addition, to supplement the quantitative study, a qualitative study was used to test and substantiate the proposed research model. With its mixed-method design, our study contributes to the literature by proposing the concept of brand overload and empirically investigating its antecedents and consequences from the SOR perspective. Practically, our study delivers insights for companies on how to use online brand com­ munities strategically and efficiently to avoid negative impacts. Collapse
