Abstract: The development of science and technology (ST) should respond to the needs of today's world, which is unfortunately heading towards a climate catastrophe. Many people do indeed use ST to protect the environment. However, for many, technological progress, economic growth is prioritized over environmental concerns. The presented study tracks the mutual relation of these attitudes. Log-linear analysis was conducted using secondary data obtained from the World Values Survey. The study sample includes all European countries that participated in the survey and Canada, China, Turkey, United States of America. The research considers four types of attitudes: Synergy of attitudes, Green attitudes, Red attitudes and Rejection of attitudes. The results explain the relationship between classification into a particular type of attitudes and variables such as gender, age, education level. The study is addressed to practitioners, policy-makers, educators interested in better understanding the needs of future participants in educational activities for environment protection. Collapse

Abstract: Evaluating the attractiveness of startup employment requires an understanding of both what startups pay and the implications of these jobs for earnings trajectories. Analyzing Danish registry data, we find that employees hired by startups earn roughly 17% less over the next 10 years than those hired by large, established firms. About half of this earnings differential stems from sorting—from the fact that startup employees have less human capital. Long-term earnings also vary depending on when individuals are hired. Although the earliest employees of startups suffer an earnings penalty, those hired by already-successful startups earn a small premium. Two factors appear to account for the earnings penalties for the early employees: Startups fail at high rates, creating costly spells of unemployment for their (former) employees. Job-mobility patterns also diverge: After being employed by a small startup, individuals rarely return to the large employers that pay more. Collapse

Abstract: Online consumer reviews offer an unprecedented amount of information for consumers to evaluate services before purchase. We use the dual process theory to investigate consumer perceptions about information helpfulness (IH) in electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) contexts. Results highlight that popularity signals, two-sided reviews, and expert sources (but not source trustworthiness) are perceived as helpful by consumers to assess service quality and performance. Although two-sided reviews exercise a significant influence on perceived IH, their influence on purchase intention was indirectly mediated by IH. IH predicts purchase intention and partially mediates the relationship between popularity signals, source homophily, source expertise, and purchase intention. Collapse

Abstract: The paper examines the issue of the information systems (IS) discipline’s influence as represented by its key journals. We examine the well-studied topics of cumulative tradition and reference disciplines from two unique perspectives: cohesion and stability. We demarcate journals into “IS journals” and “non-IS journals that are receptive to IS work” and examine the sphere of influence of these journals based on citations over time. Specifically, we compute a logmultiplicative model to identify subareas in the IS discipline and assess journal influence using the index of structural influence based on citations from a basket of 42 IS and IS-related journals over four periods: 1999-2000, 2004-2005, 2009-2010, and 2013-2014. Results indicate that the IS discipline has established a stable and cohesive knowledge underpinning, which converges with emerging (newer) journals and diverges with non-IS journals during the late period. These results suggest that the discipline has developed boundary conditions and a strong cumulative tradition. Furthermore, based on our analysis, pure IS journals gradually gained dominance in their own network and even started to exert influence in the broader network of journals. These findings provide a unique complement to other recent studies that signify the IS discipline’s influence. Collapse

Abstract: Knowledge management systems (KMSs) facilitate the efficient and effective sharing of a firm's intellectual resources. However, sifting through the myriad of content available through KMSs can be challenging, and knowledge workers may be overwhelmed when trying to find the content most relevant for completing a new task. To address this problem, KMS designers often include content rating schemes (i.e., users of the KMS submit ratings to indicate the quality of specific content used) and credibility indicators (indicators describing the validity of the content and/or the ratings) to improve users' search and evaluation of KMS content. This study examines how content ratings and credibility indicators affect KMS users' search and evaluation processes and decision performance (how well and how quickly users selected alternatives offered by the KMS). Four Interrelated laboratory experiments provide evidence that ratings have a strong influence on KMS search and evaluation processes, which In turn affects decision performance. Finally, this study demonstrates that certain credibility indicators can moderate the relationship between rating validity and KMS content search and evaluation processes. Collapse

Abstract: The study investigated the use and effectiveness of computerized information and communications support in 90 problem and opportunity finding episodes within the banking industry. In 76 problem finding episodes, branch managers used some form of computerized information and communications support. The descriptive data suggested that branch managers frequently use Management Information Systems and Transactions Processing Systems reports to identify both operational and strategic problems. When managers used computerized information or communications support tools to find potential problems or opportunities, they (1) found potential problems and opportunities in a more timely fashion, (2) used inputs from a larger number of departments, and (3) sought information from more sources. Surprisingly, when compared to non-computerized support, computerized information or communications support did not produce more accurate problem finding. The study suggests organizational and managerial practices that can enhance information support of problem finding. Finally, the potential for additional research is presented. Collapse

Abstract: Cognitive feedback in group decision making is in formation that provides decision makers with a better understanding of their own decision processes and that of the other group members. It appears to be an effective aid in group decision making. Although it has been suggested as a potential feature of group decision support systems (GDSS), little research has examined its use arid impact. This article investigates the effect of computer generated cognitive feedback in computer-supported group decision processes. It views group decision making as a combination of individual and collective activity. The article tests whether cognitive feedback can enhance control over the individual and collective decision making processes and can facilitate the process of convergence among group members. In a laboratory experiment with groups of three decision makers, 15 groups received online cognitive feedback and 15 groups did not. Users receiving cognitive feedback maintained a higher level of control over the decision-making process as their decision strategies converged. This research indicates that (1) developers should include cognitive feedback as an integral part of the GDSS at every level, and (2) they should design the human-computer interaction so there is an intuitive and effective transition across the components of feedback at all levels- Researchers should extend the concepts explored here to other models of conflict that deal with ill-structured decisions, as well as study the impact of cognitive feedback over time. Finally, researchers trying to enhance the capabilities of GOSS should continue examining how to take advantage of the differences between individual, interpersonal, and collective decision making.
