Abstract: This study focuses on how collaborative organizing is achieved in a natural-resource commons, organized as an actor-oriented structure. In a framed field experiment, teams of Maasai livestock owners played a board game related to sustainable usage and preservation of a commons (in this case, grazing areas). We examine team decisions over time and draw inferences about the difference between two information infrastructures: one that enables learning about the ecosystem and one that enables shared situational awareness. We also examine the effectiveness of these information infrastructures in obtaining sustainable usage and preservation of a commons, finding that participants who are subjected to an information infrastructure that enables shared situational awareness are more effective than those subjected to an information infrastructure that only enables learning about the ecosystem. This, we argue, is because shared situational awareness enables members to address their interdependencies related to both task and knowledge interdependence. In other words, without shared situational awareness, they are less efficient at coordinating their actions, despite sharing collaborative values. Based on our findings, we argue that actor-oriented structures should be designed to include information infrastructures that specifically address members’ interdependencies. Abstract: A key challenge faced by entrepreneurs is financing the venture for which equity crowdfunding presents an alternative with relatively low entry barriers. While it has recently been shown that perceived personality traits of the entrepreneur can impact crowdfunding success, so far, little is known about which perceived personality traits drive funding success in the context of sustainable ventures, which this study explores. To answer this question, through the lens of asymmetric information, we use quantitative regression analysis of U.S.-based equity crowdfunding projects. Overall, our preliminary results suggest an interaction between sustainability and the negatively perceived personality trait (neuroticism) on equity crowdfunding funding success. Further, we replicate recent findings on the role of negatively perceived personality traits in crowdfunding. This study contributes to our knowledge of the role of the entrepreneur's perceived personality and communication in successfully financing sustainable ventures via equity crowdfunding, bringing us closer to co-creating sustainable digital futures. Abstract: Social referral reward programs (SRRPs) aim to incentivize existing customers to recommend a product or service to others. Based on the reward threshold, we classify social referrals into two categories: singletasking social referral (SSR) and multi-tasking social referral (MSR). Considering that MSR involves multiple responders, we explore how to design an effective reward mechanism in this new context. Our primary interests in outcomes include users' willingness to recommend and their continuous referral intentions. Drawing from fairness theory and loss aversion theory, we propose three reward models based on the keeping percentage of rewards obtained, i.e., keep-it-all (KIA), discounted keep-it-all (DKIA), and all-or-nothing (AON). We designed an experiment to test the hypotheses regarding the effects of reward types on referral intention and continuous intention. This study will provide important implications for research and practice in designing an effective reward mechanism in MSR. Collapse

Abstract: This paper analyzes the herding behavior that characterizes lenders' lending decisions on a microloan platform and explains how rational herding behavior can resolve the information-asymmetry problem, which is a well-known reason for the failure of online microloan platforms. Using a set of panel data on individual lending decisions acquired from Paipaidai.com (PPDai), an online microloan platform, we examine the influence of the lending decisions of prominent, experienced lenders on novice lenders to identify rational herding behavior. Our empirical analysis demonstrates that rational herding behavior can in fact efficiently reduce lender loss from borrower defaults caused by limited information. Although it is typically assumed that herding behavior is irrational, we find that it can be rational in this context and can thus shed light on why PPDai has succeeded while most other microloan platforms have failed. Accordingly, we make three key contributions: 1) we use heterogeneous herding effects to empirically determine whether lenders' herding behavior on PPDai is rational based on observational learning; 2) we investigate the moderating effect of borrower credit and novice-lender experience on herding, and we leverage this heterogeneity in lender experience to better explain loan results; and 3) because PPDai publicly provides potential lenders with a transparent credit score—in contrast to platforms like Prosper.com, which leverage hidden proprietary credit information from Experian—we further analyze the credit composition of prominent lenders to better understand the crucial determinants of rational herding. In fact, our follow-up survival simulations indicate that without rational herding, the total number of successful PPDai loans would have decreased by around 46 percent during the study period—a finding that further underlines the crucial influence of rational herding and the unique contextual factors of PPDai that have fostered it. Abstract: Data breaches and cyber incidents are on the rise, and companies continually research new technologies to defend against attacks and protect customer data. The blockchain is a data store designed to promote data privacy, as well as transaction integrity. Enterprises in several industries, especially banking, have investigated the implementation of blockchain-based databases to replace centralised databases as one mechanism for protecting customers’ data by separating transactional data from personally identifiable information. Despite the blockchain’s privacy protections, consumers remain largely unaware of these benefits. Building on the Health Belief Model (HBM), we include privacy concerns and inertia as critical factors that influence consumers’ perceptions of blockchain-based databases’ benefits. Using a sample of 304 respondents, we test a theoretical model incorporating these factors. Our study results indicate threat severity, threat susceptibility, awareness, and inertia significantly influence the perceived benefits of blockchain, which has a significant positive influence on consumers’ intention to switch to blockchain-based applications. Although consumers’ comfort with the status quo of traditional banking mechanisms is a significant barrier to the realisation of blockchain banking applications benefits, additional awareness of consumer privacy protections can persuade customers to use the blockchain-based applications, especially if they exhibit heightened privacy concerns. Abstract: Using mixed reality (MR) glasses for preoperative patient education (PPE) can help patients understand the purpose and risks of surgical procedures through informative visualizations. However, patients tend to be critical regarding the use of MR glasses in healthcare and often prefer the status quo of healthcare services provided. This study explores the resistance to MR technologies in PPE through the lens of the status quo bias theory by surveying n = 171 participants. We conducted a fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis revealing configurations that provide a typological understanding of patient resistance. This allows healthcare stakeholders to take more targeted interventions to promote MR adoption. Notably, the results indicate that healthcare providers need to be transparent in communicating the benefits and drawbacks of using MR, as uncertainty costs are the main driver of resistance to MR glasses in PPE. Abstract: To avoid the detrimental consequences of global warming, digital nudges were recognized as effective means to steer individual behavior toward sustainability. We investigated the applications, contexts, and outcomes of green digital nudges by conducting a systematic literature review of 64 nudge interventions. We found six distinct types of nudges-priming, goal-setting, default, feedback, social reference, and framingand 18 sustainable target behaviors (e.g., energy conservation). To explain how behavior changes through green nudges, we clustered the identified target behaviors into three behavior change outcomes: (i) altering an existing behavior, (ii) reinforcing an existing behavior, and (iii) forming a new behavior. Based on our findings, we propose guidance for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers who seek to design choice architectures that facilitate pro-environmental behavior. Collapse

Abstract: Boosted by the Covid-19 pandemic, the utilization of online grocery shopping has gained an increasing relevance over recent years. Increasing customer value by reducing friction can be a key option for online grocers to maintain and increase growth, customer loyalty and satisfaction. Being easy and inexpensive to implement, digital nudges can offer distinct benefits for consumers and online grocers. In this context, we investigated the potentials of digital nudging, using anchoring, social norms and a hybrid nudging concept as rational choice triggers. Our results indicate that anchoring and hybrid nudges have a significant effect on purchase frequency, while none of the investigated concepts is capable of reducing the overall shopping duration. Interestingly, in combination with anchoring nudges, social norms do have a significantly influential effect, although individually proven to be ineffective in low involvement decision contexts such as buying groceries online. Abstract: The risk of water resources has become a serious crisis threatening the human survival and social development. Based on the establishment of a comprehensive risk evaluation system from perspective of water quantity and water quality, this paper proposes a group TODIM (an acronym in Portuguese for Interactive and Multi-criteria Decision Making) with multi-granularity proportional hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (PHFLTSs) based on a novel comparison method to evaluate water resources risk. In the method, a novel supplementary of extension function and hesitation value function of comparing and measuring the PHFLTSs is firstly proposed. Furthermore, incomplete weight information method is introduced to establish optimization model to compute the final indicator weights, which are extended to TODIM method to evaluate water resources risk of Hubei Province of China. Finally, the availability and reliability of the method are confirmed by further analysis, and specific management suggestions are put forward to reduce the associated risk. Collapse
