Abstract: Digital micro-influencers (DMIs) seem to drive social commerce as they connect with customers in tier-II towns better than others. The extant literature on the efforts and work processes of DMIs is limited. The present study fills the gap through a qualitative study in India. Using the persuasion knowledge model as a guiding framework, nineteen qualitative in-depth interviews with the DMIs were conducted and analyzed using thematic analysis. The study finds that understanding the target (target knowledge) helps DMIs in selecting appropriate brands (topic knowledge) and creating compelling content (persuasion knowledge), leading to social commerce. Also, topic knowledge assists persuasion knowledge. The study further offers insights into the nature of the motivators on the DMIs in the light of organismic integration theory. Theoretical and managerial implications for future research are provided. Collapse

Abstract: Questioning the IT governance structures of international NGOs through the critical lens of post-colonial theory allows us to postulate a new combined theory. We conducted a series of 20 interviews with both international and local NGOs to examine IT decision structures more closely. Using the six aspects of post-colonial theory Lin et al. (2015) established, we examine potential additional influences in more detail. Our proposed theory explains our findings of mainly centralized governance structures that do not correspond to the innovation and flexibility goals we observed in addition to security needs and standardization efforts. We find that both IT goals (as part of IT governance) and post-colonial structures shaping organizational structures influence IT decision structures. Our findings indicate that we do not only need to take biases in the design of information systems but also in their governance into account. Collapse

Abstract: In this article, we introduce a blockchain governance framework that defines the governance of a blockchain as a combination of six dimensions and three layers. An evaluation through eight expert interviews confirms the perceived usefulness and operational feasibility of the presented framework. Furthermore, the framework, is demonstrated by an application in two case studies. Abstract: Robotic Process Automation (RPA) has seen significant uptake in practice over the last years due to its ability to cut costs and rapidly connect legacy applications. However, organizations struggle to apply RPA to tasks with higher complexity. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities to augment RPA promises to overcome this limitation. Nevertheless, little detail is available on how these technologies can complement each other. Drawing on the theoretical links of the Task-Technology Fit model, we propose a set of AI capabilities that fit specific RPA tasks. Based on these fits, we propose a typology of use cases that AI enable in RPA. These results are derived from a literature study, nine case studies, and 15 expert interviews and validated through a case simulation and expert evaluation. Collapse

Abstract: E-commerce continues to grow at double-digit rates. While many e-tailers are presumably delighted with their prospering businesses, this growth also poses challenges. Logistics networks are reaching their capacity limits, which is why firms are looking for new solutions that enable fast, reliable, and cost-efficient delivery. Of special interest is the particularly costly last-mile. Against this background, this paper qualitatively examines which factors influence the acceptance of three last-mile transportation mode innovations, namely, (1) drones, (2) robots, and (3) crowd delivery. To this end, 29 interviews were conducted with e-commerce customers to gain insights into how they view such concepts. Logistics service providers and e-tailers can use the findings to increase acceptance of such solutions by means of targeted communication. The results also form the basis for further research, as they can be used to operationalize the theory of planned behavior (TPB) constructs of "attitude", "subjective norms", and "perceived behavioral control". Abstract: Online configuration tool kits present attractive opportunities for creating customized offers. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relevance of both the TAM (Technology Acceptance Model) and the experiential learning theory to understand how configuration contributes to provide value for end users. The qualitative survey shows that the TAM needs to be adapted to the case of configurators by measuring both perceived usefulness (PU) of the configured product and PU and ease of use of the configurator itself. The study shows the relevance of experiential learning theory as an antecedent of the TAM. A model summarizing our observations is proposed and discussed. Collapse

Abstract: Driven through ever increasing cost pressure, service providers rely on complex information and optimization systems to increase their operational efficiency. Those systems, however, typically optimize from a provider perspective and, thus, neglect potential for cost reduction on the customer side. Therefore, current approaches to increase operational efficiency result in an inefficient resource allocation from a system’s perspective. We address this issue by designing and evaluating a novel method—system-oriented service delivery (SOSD). We follow a stringent Design Science Research approach and ground our work in an analysis of current practice as well as draw upon the kernel theories of service system engineering and mechanism design. In addition to evaluations for effectiveness and illustration, we perform a naturalistic evaluation capturing expert feedback on the proposed method. Thus, we contribute a new method with high practical potential to the service system engineering discipline as well as the industrial maintenance domain. In addition, we explore reception in industry and further improvement areas for future design cycles to improve SOSD’s implementability. Collapse

Abstract: The process by which technological innovation is adopted and diffused within an industry persists as a key research interest in the existing literature. Furthermore, the innovation and diffusion of ICT (information and communications technology) in general and smartphones in particular are viewed as a useful resource to support and foster socio-economic wellbeing in developing countries. As such, sustainable design and development of smartphone industry in developing world and their contribution to socio-economic wellbeing has drawn significant research attention. In the current study, we explore and analyse various factors and their inter-relationships that initiate, support and disseminate technological innovation within the smartphone industry in Bangladesh and Indian province of West Bengal who share linguistic, historical and cultural ties. Drawing on the concept of co-creation of value we develop a dialectical perspective toward multi-stakeholder involvement in smartphone industry’s creation of value. Through in-depth interviews with senior government and private sector employees, industry experts, researchers, and small and medium enterprise owners, we conclude that the development of ancillary industries, contextually appropriate apps and innovation by small enterprises and inter-industry collaborations contribute to current and future innovation and sustainable development of smartphone industry. Abstract: The introduction of enterprise-wide systems requires users to simultaneously adjust to both the new system’s requirements and changes associated with modified business processes—an adaptation that often goes beyond conspicuous behavioral elements. Therefore, to investigate the underlying attributes that characterize user interaction with and adaptation to information technology (IT), we collected data from four organizations that had implemented enterprise-wide systems for at least three years prior to commencing fieldwork. By taking a grounded theory approach, we identify four distinct adaptation patterns: reluctant, compliant, faithful, and enthusiastic. These patterns represent configurations of five interrelated attributes that users espouse in their interaction with enterprise-wide systems: attitude towards the system, approach to learning how to use the system, level of interaction with the system, exploration of system features, and stance towards changing work practices. We propose an emergent, substantive theory of IT adaptation patterns that explains the intricate interplay of individual, task, and organizational initiatives in shaping these adaptation patterns.
