Abstract: “Low-code/no-code” (LC/NC) platforms are designed to empower non-IT business professionals to use model driven development to rapidly create sophisticated applications. Organizations are increasingly adding LC/NC platforms to their IT software portfolios. Thus, it is likely that current business students will encounter such tools and be expected to be able to use them. This research assesses the implementation of a low-code app development case within a business management information systems (MIS) course with the aim of identifying whether it promotes student self-efficacy of learning complex technology topics and how this relates to interest in further LC/NC skill development and interest in the MIS major. Abstract: In the context of disaster management, the intervention of Autonomous Systems brings many benefits to human rescuers. Autonomous Systems can quickly reach regions that may be inaccessible for humans. In addition, they can perform a rapid mapping of the impacted area and therefore enhancing the human knowledge. However, it is necessary to choose the best Autonomous Systems according to (i) mission environment and (ii) mission objectives. In this article, we describe our work on ArcTurius rover, a wheeled Autonomous System in support to disaster management. We validated its design through simulation and formal verification. A first simulation step occurs during the system definition. This allows to formally verify the design choices. A second type of simulation is performed to check the adequacy of the rover with respect to a specific mission. Thus, an Autonomous System can be adapted prior to a real mission to enhance its level of performance. Collapse

Abstract: This article deals with the question of risk and opportunity identification based on data management as one main step of the convergence of artificial intelligence and industrial engineering. Two main subjects are addressed in this article: (i) the data management framework that could be the backbone for the whole approach, and (ii) the modeling theoretical background that could be used as a basement for the definition of a formal system for risk and opportunity modeling. Abstract: The Internet of Things (IoT)is a prominent concept in academic and technology business discourse in recent times reflecting a wider trend to connect physical objects to the Internet and to each other. This idea of connect things started in the beginning of the 2008 through RFID. But after the open hardware initiatives (as Arduino), it gained more visibility and access to experiments with sensors in the environment. The IoT is already generating an unprecedented volume of data in greater varieties and higher velocities. Making sense of such data is an emerging and significant challenge. Infographics are visual representations that provide a visual space for end users to compare and analyze data, information, and knowledge in a more efficient form than traditional forms. The nature of IoT requires a continuum modification in how end users see information to achieve such efficiency gains. Conceptualizing and implementing infographics in an IoT system can thus require significant planning and development for both data scientists, graphic designers and developers resulting in both costs in terms of time and effort. To address this problem, this paper presents SiMoNa, a domain-specific modeling language (DSML) to create, connect, interact, and build interactive infographic presentations for IoT systems efficiently based on the model-driven development (MDD) paradigm. Abstract: By traversing academia and developer communities, two predominant approaches to cross-platform mobile development have been identiﬁed, speciﬁcally Hybrid and Interpreted. Previous research has established the use and integration of platform- and device-speciﬁc features to be core requirements for cross-platform frameworks. In this study we assess and discuss how the Hybrid and Interpreted approaches facilitate the use of native device features from within a JavaScript context, and how custom communication bridges are both developed and integrated. Our research motivation lies in data from an industry survey, stating that developers perceive device communication as a real painpoint. While both approaches exist to ease development of mobile apps, they are fundamentally different at a technical level. The article takes a technical approach, drawing evaluations and discussions from two app implementations. Our ﬁndings indicate that implementation and development of communication bridges are non-complex tasks, and that execution-time performance varies greatly. Collapse

Abstract: Enterprise agility, i .e., the ability of enterprises to respond to changes, is a core imperative for effective change management. It can improve operational efficiency as well as support resource optimization. Yet, it is challenging and a major concern for corporate executives. To facilitate agility, it can be useful to design modeling constructs for representing changes. Such modeling constructs can help stakeholders to represent and better understand change concepts. This research contributes by extending existing enterprise modeling approaches with new modeling constructs for representing concepts of change. These modeling constructs are integrated into a conceptual model. Abstract: This article aims at describing an approach to support crisis management. The main idea is to use an original vision of Big-Data to manage the question of collaboration issues in crisis response. On the one hand, this article introduces a general framework that structures the methodology applied in our approach. This framework includes several technical and business dimensions and embeds scientific results that are presented in this article or have been described in previous articles. On the other hand, the resulting implemented suite of tools is also presented with regards to the conceptual framework. Finally, in order to emphasize all the main features described in this article, both the framework and the suite of tools are illustrated and put into action through a scenario extracted from a real exercise. Abstract: Clinical guidelines contain recommendations on the appropriate management of patients with speciﬁc clinical conditions. A prerequisite for using clinical guidelines in information systems is to encode them in a Computer-Interpretable Guideline (CIG) language. However, this is a difﬁcult and demanding task, usually done by IT staff. The goal of the paper is to facilitate the encoding of clinical guidelines in CIG languages, while increasing the involvement of clinicians. To achieve this, it is proposed to support the reﬁnement of guideline processes from a preliminary speciﬁcation in a business process language to a detailed implementation in one of the available CIG languages. The approach relies on the use of the Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) for the speciﬁcation level, a CIG language for the implementation level, and on algorithms to semi-automatically transform guideline models in BPMN into the CIG language of choice. As a ﬁrst step towards the implementation of the approach, in this work algorithms are implemented to transform a BPMN speciﬁcation of clinical processes into the PROforma CIG language, and are successfully applied to several clinical guidelines. Abstract: The idea behind Model Driven Development (MDD) (Miller and Mukerji 2003) is to model the software system on several layers of abstraction. A designer starts from the very abstract specification (independent of the platform and language used) and progresses to more concrete models (using platform-specific constructs) and finally to code. Ideally, each step of the transformation of the model from the more abstract to the less abstract is achieved by a declarative transformation obtained (semi-)automatically. In our previous work, we have developed an approach for designing XML schemas based on MDD. We showed that a set of XML schemas representing different views of the same problem domain can be first modeled in a platform-independent level with a uniform conceptual schema expressed as a UML class diagram. Then each XML schema can be modeled as a view on this uniform UML class diagram. In this paper, we further extend our approach to modeling XML schemas using UML class diagrams with modeling integrity constraints using Object Constraint Language (OCL). We show that an integrity constraint expressed at the platform-independent level as an OCL expression can be translated to an expression at the XML schema level which can be used to validate XML documents. In particular, we propose a method which translates an OCL expression at the platform-independent level to a Schematron expression. Schematron is a language which enables to express integrity constraints at the XML schema level. We show that our approach saves time and prevents from errors made by designers when expressing Schematron constraints manually. Collapse
