Abstract: Significant investments in information systems (IS) over the past decades have led to increasingly complex IS architectures in organisations, which are difficult to understand, operate, and maintain. We investigate this development and associated challenges through a conceptual model that distinguishes four constituent elements of IS architecture complexity by differentiating technological from organisational aspects and structural from dynamic aspects. Building on this conceptualisation, we hypothesise relations between these four IS architecture complexity constructs and investigate their impact on architectural outcomes (i.e., efficiency, flexibility, transparency, and predictability). Using survey data from 249 IS managers, we test our model through a partial least squares (PLS) approach to structural equation modelling (SEM). We find that organisational complexity drives technological complexity and that structural complexity drives dynamic complexity. We also demonstrate that increasing IS architecture complexity has a significant negative impact on efficiency, flexibility, transparency, and predictability. Finally, we show that enterprise architecture management (EAM) helps to offset these negative effects by acting as a moderator in the relation between organisational and technological IS architecture complexity. Thus, organisations without adequate EAM are likely to face large increases in technological complexity due to increasing organisational complexity, whereas organisations with adequate EAM exhibit no such relation. Abstract: Recent achievements of artificial intelligence (AI) have caused organizations to increasingly bring AI capabilities into their core business processes. Such AI-supported business processes often result in human-AI hybrid systems, which consist of an AI system, which performs most of the execution, and humans, who monitor this execution and occasionally provide additional inputs and overrides. Using sales data from Walmart, we conduct an online study to investigate if human supervision can improve upon state-of-the-art AI forecasts. Furthermore, we analyze the perceptions and behavioral intentions of the human participants over time. We find that human interventions consistently lead to less accurate forecasts and that participants initially underestimate the AI system's accuracy and overestimate their own potential to improve upon AI forecasts. However, perceptions quickly shift over the course of the study, causing the participants to perceive the AI system increasingly favorably, which also leads to behavioral changes and better hybrid system performance. Abstract: We draw on the attention-based view of the firm to examine whether and when the presence of a CIO in the TMT has a positive effect on both firms' ideated digital innovation (IDI) (i.e., the intensity of firms' digital patenting activity) and commercialized digital innovation (CDI) (i.e., the digital sophistication of firms' new products). Building on the idea that attention processes are context dependent, we also explore the moderating roles of CEO characteristics (IT background and role tenure) as well as environmental characteristics (the industry's IT attention). We analyze data from a cross-industry panel of U.S. S&P 500 firms over eight years that includes up to 2,852 firm-year observations. The results indicate that CIO presence in the TMT is positively related to a firm's IDI and CDI. Furthermore, they show that the organizational context related to CEO characteristics moderates the CIO-CDI relationship and that the environmental context related to the industry's IT attention moderates the CIO-IDI relationship. Our research contributes to the information systems literature by providing robust evidence that CIO presence in the TMT positively influences a firm's digital innovation outcomes, showing how internal and external boundary conditions affect the work of CIOs, and elaborating the role of managerial attention as an underlying mechanism explaining digital innovation. Abstract: Twitter is a commonly used social platform for communication during disasters. Tweets by citizens during disasters to share information, seek, and offer help create a body of spontaneous, decentralized, emergent social media communication. Users' exploit Twitter's reach-enabling technological functionalities (hashtags (#), mentions (@), and 'reply-to') to draw attention to the messages. Set in context of the second wave of COVID-19 in India, that saw a surge in citizen-driven tweets seeking healthcare resources from fellow citizens and officials (i.e., SOS tweets), our paper empirically analyses the effects of Twitter's reach-enabling functionalities on online responses (i.e., retweets and replies) to these SOS tweets. We investigate the effects of inclusion of hashtags, mentions, and 'reply to' SOS tweets. We also examine the moderating effect of how the effects of the reach-enabling functionalities change as the social platform gets crowded with SOS tweets. Abstract: Misinformation has been on the rise, and in many cases, misinformation is intentionally shared for political reasons. This phenomenon first started with political news but now has spread in consumer products. To understand how misinformation sharing occurs differently between politized versus nonpoliticized products, we conducted an experiment and survey 800 respondents in an online crowdsourcing platform. The results show that for a politicized product, individual bias disposition and social norms indeed sway an individual's evaluation of information credibility, her trust and intention to share. However, this effect is not observed for non-politicized products. This call for more research to understand the role of social norms in stopping the spread of misinformation. Collapse

Abstract: The internet and social media are constantly evolving and providing innovations for communication. Persuasive communication, like advertisements, can be adapted to peoples' personal preferences and desires based on tracked data. Emotions have been found to play an important role within persuasion. Based on theoretical assumptions of framing and affective priming, we hypothesize different effects of positive and negative messages and mood within social media advertising. To investigate the reception of ads regarding their persuasiveness in sustainability campaigns we conducted an online experiment using a 2x2 between design (N=147) measuring ad evaluation and behavioral intention. Our findings revealed that wording can be an influential factor in persuasive messages towards more sustainability. Positive framing led to a better ad evaluation than negative wording. However, behavioral intention was not affected and there was no enhancing effect of recipients' environmental awareness. Collapse

Abstract: The increasing use of information technology artifacts in daily life makes security a shared responsibility of both users and companies. In recent years, increasing a user’s objective (i.e., actual) security knowledge and providing applications with more secure default settings appear among the most ubiquitous tools companies use to broaden their efforts to help users make more secure decisions. Examining both solutions matters because they are widely used, cost effective, and understood by many security practitioners. Additionally, default settings and users’ objective knowledge provide anchors for decision-making. However, human errors and insecure default settings are increasing and raising further questions about the efficacy of such efforts. Using the theory of bounded ra­ tionality, we investigated the role of objective, subjective (i.e., self-assessed) security knowledge, and default settings security level on the overall decision security. We found that objective security knowledge can lead to secure decisions when paired with high subjective security knowledge. In the absence of the latter, objective security knowledge is unable to lead to better security decisions. Furthermore, subjective security knowledge reduces the extent to which users fully accept default security settings, thereby mitigating bias toward insecure default settings. Collapse

Abstract: With the latest technological developments and associated new possibilities in teaching, the personalisation of learning is gaining more and more importance. It assumes that individual learning experiences and results could generally be improved when personal learning preferences are considered. To do justice to the complexity of the personalisation possibilities of teaching and learning processes, we illustrate the components of learning and teaching in the digital environment and their interdependencies in an initial model. Furthermore, in a pre-study, we investigate the relationships between the learner's ability to (digital) self-organise, the learner's priorknowledge learning in different variants of mode and learning outcomes as one part of this model.
