Abstract: Massive open online courses (MOOC) are free learning courses based on online platforms for higher education, which not only promote the open sharing of learning resources, but also lead to serious information overload. However, there are many courses on MOOCs, and it can be difficult for users to choose courses that match their individual or group preferences. Therefore, a combined weighting based large-scale group decision-making approach is proposed to implement MOOC group recommendations. First, based on the MOOC operation mode, we decompose the course content into three stages, namely pre-class, in-class, and post-class, and then the curriculum-arrangement-movement- performance evaluation framework is constructed. Second, the probabilistic linguistic criteria importance through intercriteria correlation method is employed to obtain the objective weighting of the criterion. Meanwhile, the word embedding model is utilized to vectorize online reviews, and the subjective weighting of the criteria are acquired by calculating the text similarity. The combined weighting then can be obtained by fusing the subjective and objective weighting. Based on this, the PL-MULTIMIIRA approach and Borda rule is employed to rank the alternatives for group recommendation, and an easy-to-use formula for group satisfaction is proposed to evaluate the effect of the proposed method. Furthermore, a case study is conducted to group recommendations for statistical MOOCs. Finally, the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed approach were verified through sensitivity analysis as well as comparative analysis. Collapse

Abstract: Generalized grey target decision method (GGTDM) for mixed attributes has different decision-making bases (DMBs) owing to different mechanisms. A combination GGTDM based on zero-sum game theory is proposed to obtain the desirable decision-making effect by fully using the characteristics and information of different DMB based GGTDMs. First, two players are set to compete in the zero-sum game. One player takes different DMB based GGTDMs as the set of his strategies, while the other player adopts the alternatives as the other player’s set of strategies. Then, the ranking values of all alternatives decided by different GGTDMs are converted into scores by equivalent way, and the scores are regarded as the payoffs of the two players. Next, the zero-sum game based linear programming model is built to obtain the solutions when reaching the Nash equilibrium. Finally, the combination decision-making values of all alternatives can be calculated based on the strategy solutions for all GGTDMs. And the decision making is based on the value with which the smaller the better. The application analysis verifies that the proposed method has its feasible and can make full use of the advantages of different DMB based GGTDMs and avoid their shortcomings. Collapse

Abstract: A popular framework of the supplier selection process is usually characterized by problem definition, criteria formulation, supplier screening, and supplier selection. The literature review suggested limitations of this framework as it ignores the screening of criteria (beyond criteria weighing) and evaluators (buyers) and its inability to guide the supplier selection problems where a measure of confidence or trust is needed to confirm the reliability of the selected supplier. While extending de Boer’s influential supplier selection framework, the current study argues that the supplier selection problem is not merely about ranking suppliers based on given criteria; instead, it involves evaluating criteria and evaluators as well. Guided by the theory of statistics and the Ordinal Priority Approach (OPA), the study pioneers a probabilistic approach of supplier evaluation and selection under incomplete information using a novel Confidence Level measure. The study suggests, the probability that a supplier shortlisted for selection is actually the optimum choice or not can be explained through a probability distribution, called W-distribution, therefore, confidently preventing the decision-makers from selecting the sub-optimum suppliers. The study presents a novel contribution to the theory of multiple-attribute decision-making through the OPA. The proposed approach can help build intelligent decision support systems to aid managers while providing them with early warning tools and suggestions to improve confidence in their selection. Abstract: Researchers of decision-making and human–computer interactions have been concerned with the issue of action slips and the development of supportive functionalities to reduce the occurrence of the slips. However, it remains unclear how to measure slips in a decision-making context and how motivational factors can help to reduce action slips. In this study, we formulate the construct of execution discrepancy to represent an individual’s deviation from his/her planned actions and propose a self-regulatory model to explain the antecedents and consequences of this construct. The model specifies that self-efficacy exerts a positive influence on the reduction of execution discrepancy that, in turn, leads to enhanced decision performance. An experiment was conducted based on the multi-attribute decision paradigm, and decision-makers’ eye movements were tracked to measure their execution discrepancy. The results support our hypothesis that self-efficacy serves as an important moti­ vational factor to modulate cognitive efforts needed to reduce execution discrepancy during strategy execution. In addition to its theoretical and methodological contribution to the construct of execution discrepancy, this study may have essential implications for the design of technological artifacts that can predict and prevent possible action slips. Abstract: A rating system (RS) comprises a rating metric defined by a discrete set of integers contained in an interval (e.g., [0, N]), and an aggregation rule. RSs are widely used in various fields to capture and summarize individuals' opinions on alternatives. In this paper we argue that the multi-attribute additive value model (MAVM) should be used as a benchmark to analyze the reliability of RSs, and present some tight bounds on the parameter N and overall rating scores, which guarantee the consistency between the RS [0, N] and MAVM at the ranking and rating levels. Interestingly, the tight bounds at the rating level are twice as large as those at the ranking level. The results in this paper can provide new insights about the reliability analysis of RSs. Abstract: Selecting a portfolio of projects is essential for organizations to sustain and develop their businesses and increase profitability. While creating a suitable portfolio, the opinions of the employees in the organization’s hierarchy about alternative projects can improve the decision process. In this paper, we structure the information technology/business development (IT/BD) project portfolio selection problem as a hierarchical group decision-making setting. Our aim is to process information provided from a large number of employees participating in the decision-making process and prevent the dominance of a single decision maker or biases due to irrelevant evaluations. A weighted cumulative belief degree approach is proposed for aggregating the evaluations of the decision makers and experts on the projects and on the importance weights of the criteria. We conduct a real-life case study in an organization in the automotive sector. The application shows that the proposed approach can enable getting evaluations from a large organization with less time and provides diverse results based on the several satisfaction levels. Abstract: Crowdfunding platforms offer project initiators the opportunity to acquire monetary resources from the Internet crowd and therefore have become a valuable alternative to traditional sources of funding. However, some processes on crowdfunding platforms cause undesirable external effects that influence the funding success of projects. In this context, we focus on the phenomenon of project overfunding. Massively overfunded projects have been discussed to overshadow other crowdfunding projects which in turn receive less money. We propose a taxation mechanism to internalize these overfunding externalities and to improve overall funding results. To evaluate this concept, we develop and deploy a sophisticated agent-based model (ABM). This ABM is based on a multi-attribute decision-making (MADM) approach and is appropriate to simulate the dynamic funding processes of a crowdfunding platform. Our evaluation provides evidence that possible modifications of the crowdfunding mechanisms bear the chance to optimize funding results and to alleviate existing flaws. Collapse

Abstract: Based on the “wisdom of the crowd” effect, consumer-generated online reviews are supposed to help consumers make more accurate product evaluations. However, the large amount of information in the reviews, coupled with conflicting opinions, can make it difficult for consumers to identify and consider those attributes relevant to their decision. Thus, while online product reviews are generally believed to empower consumers, we suggest that they may have “swaying” effects in that attribute preferences (i.e., the relative importance consumers place on various product attributes in product evaluation) are more heavily influenced by characteristics of the online reviews rather than by the relevance of the attributes to the consumers’ decision context. We propose that three characteristics of online reviews affect the assessment of attribute preferences: (1) the amount of information about attribute-level performance, which is often unevenly distributed across attributes, (2) the degree of information conflict about attribute-level performance, and (3) the relationship between the overall numeric rating and the attribute-level performance information in the reviews. We test our hypotheses in two randomized experiments and a free simulation study. Results from the three studies show that the three review characteristics influence attribute preferences and that their effects are strong enough such that attribute preferences are influenced more by these online review characteristics than by the relevance of the attributes to the consumers’ decision context. Our work, which illustrates a dark side to online reviews, has implications for both online word-of-mouth and preference construction research. Collapse

Abstract: The concept of a common operational picture has been utilized by the military for situational awareness in warfare domains for many years. With the emergence of cyberspace as a domain, there is a necessity to develop doctrine and tools to enable situational awareness for key-decision makers. Our study analyzes key elements that define cyber situational awareness to develop a methodology to identify assets within key cyber terrain, thus enabling situational awareness at the tactical level. For the purposes of this work, we treat critical assets to be key cyber terrain, given that no formal study has determined differences between asset criticality and key cyber terrain. Mission- and operationallybased questions are investigated to identify critical assets with the TOPSIS methodology. Results show that the ICS system can be evaluated using TOPSIS to identify critical assets contributing to key cyber terrain, enabling further research into other interconnected systems. Collapse
