Too Tired and in Too Good of a Mood to Worry About Privacy: Explaining the Privacy Paradox Through the Lens of Effort Level in Information Processing

Abstract: The confluence of digital transactions, growing cybersecurity threats, and the internet of the future (e.g., web 3.0 and the metaverse) have made information privacy increasingly important to consumers and companies that rely on consumers willingly sharing their personal information. Although information privacy has been of interest to researchers for decades and much has been learned, one thing that perplexes scholars is the privacy paradox, which we define as a mismatch between stated privacy concerns and actual disclosure behaviors. In this paper, we shed light on this phenomenon and show that low-effort information processing triggered by cognitive depletion (Experiment 1), positive mood (Experiment 2), or both (Experiment 3) significantly attenuates the association between stated privacy concerns and disclosure behaviors. These findings do not indicate that individuals do not care about privacy because we find consistent evidence in the three experiments for a significant negative association between stated privacy concerns and disclosure behaviors when individuals have sufficient cognitive capacity (Experiment 1), experience a negative (or neutral) mood (Experiment 2), or have sufficient cognitive capacity coupled with a negative mood state (Experiment 3). Our findings reveal that the paradox is neither an absolute phenomenon nor a myth, but its existence is conditional on contextual factors, including psychological factors related to information processing. Abstract: Advances in digital platforms allow influencers to use live shows to showcase products, which has given rise to live-stream shopping. Moreover, new communication forms have emerged, such as the metaverse. The social interactions that occur in these immersive environments foster influencer-follower interactions. This research compares the impact of live-stream shopping on followers’ experiences and behaviors on two communication channels (live shows on Instagram and in the metaverse) and analyses the moderating role of content involvement in telepresence. Data were collected in a between-subjects quasi-field experiment. Two scenarios that differed in degree of telepresence were created, a live show on Instagram and a live show in the metaverse. The results showed that telepresence is an important part of the user experience and in the success of live shows. Telepresence was seen to have a major influence on experiential value, but not on instrumental value. Both values provided followers with satisfaction with the experience. This satisfaction generated stickiness intention and intention to recommend the influencers’ live shows. The effect of telepresence on experiential value was greater for followers less involved with the influencer’s content. This research is pioneering in comparing an established platform, Instagram, with the metaverse. Despite the greater experiential value provided by the metaverse, to increase its instrumental value metaverse spaces needs to be further developed. Collapse

Abstract: Interorganizational information systems (IOIS) are valuable tools providing platforms for information flow enabling more efficient and reliable collaboration in digitalized supply chains. An IOIS is subject to influencing factors originating in the company and environment. Inspired by complex adaptive system theory, an agent-based simulation model is designed, exploring factors affecting the integration and efficiency of IOIS. These factors are derived from resource-based view and dynamic capabilities theory. The influence on information system deployment is assessed by merging these factors into exogenous, intercompany climate, and operational dimensions. First, the results indicate that product-specific factors have a greater influence than the environment when deploying an IOIS. Second, deliberate design of IC relationships should be considered during the development of an IOIS. Third, extensive information exchange between supply chain partners might be disadvantageous for IOIS utilization. Fourth, the advantages of IOIS can be lost when completely open systems are used. Abstract: Although big data analytics (BDA) does enhance innovation performance, it remains unclear whether BDA contributes more or less than traditional marketing analytics (TMA) to firm innovation. This study tests hy­ potheses based on data collected from multiple sources by using four-wave survey and archival data from 201 firms. The results indicate that BDA has a stronger positive effect on new product development (NPD) perfor­ mance than TMA, over time. However, TMA, when coupled with exploitative innovation strategy, has a stronger positive effect on NPD performance than if coupled with exploratory innovation strategy. Abstract:While access and adoption issues related to online health management tools (OHMT) have been studied in healthcare contexts, questions remain about whether and how their use impacts patients' perceptions of healthcare. Drawing on technology affordance and media synchronicity frameworks, we explore how the existence of multiple chronic conditions (MCC) and differences in usage pattern due to patient's generation impact these relationships. Utilizing HINTS data, this study provides empirical support for a positive relationship between utilization of electronic personal health records (e-PHRs) and healthcare quality perceptions, albeit with a caveat that patients with greater healthcare needs as well as millennial and younger generations do not seem to enjoy the same benefits from increased use of e-PHRs. Furthermore, asynchronous patient-provider electronic communication is yet to achieve positive perceptions of better healthcare quality for most users. This research bears implications for personalization and customization of OHMT to account for variations in patients' healthcare needs and usage patterns. Collapse

The importance of analytics in the modern business environment has made it necessary to include analytics as a foundational course for all business majors. There is much debate on what content should be taught in analytics courses and what is the role of computational skills versus the skills needed to interpret and communicate the results that are needed as part of the analytics process? These problems point to the essential difference between analytics and statistics. As we discuss in this paper, analytics is a process that employs statistical tools. We first discuss the business analytics process which we feel should be taught in all business analytics courses. Abstract: In e-Governance, information and communication technologies such as virtual reality are used to aid communication between government and citizens, and engage citizens in government policies and strategies. The aim of this study is to explore virtual reality as a tool to engage citizens in social issues such as mobility, climate change and sustainable urban development. A study was conducted in a workshop setting, where virtual reality displays were utilized to engage users. The users rated their experiences on a 7-point Likert scale, and the results indicated that perceived usability, intention to use, enjoyment, and novelty positively influenced citizen engagement. Further, it was revealed that citizen engagement had a positive impact on self-efficacy and citizens' interest in the topics. Our contributions include theoretical and practical implications, along with a preliminary relationship model. Overall, the findings suggest that virtual reality displays have the potential to be an effective tool for engaging citizens. Collapse

Abstract: This study investigates whether the Agile principles introduced in the Agile Manifesto (2001) have endured today two decades later and whether they are still relevant to software developers. Further, are they positively correlated with work and affective outcomes of software development projects? We find out by conducting a survey with team members of 58 software development project in one of the largest global IT firms. To our surprise we find that overall, the Agile principles have endured and were positively correlated with team motivation, project effectiveness and project innovation. However, they were negative correlated with project efficiency. As expected, projects using Agile and plan-driven methodologies showed differential findings. Collapse
