Abstract: Interorganizational information systems (IOIS) are valuable tools providing platforms for information flow enabling more efficient and reliable collaboration in digitalized supply chains. An IOIS is subject to influencing factors originating in the company and environment. Inspired by complex adaptive system theory, an agent-based simulation model is designed, exploring factors affecting the integration and efficiency of IOIS. These factors are derived from resource-based view and dynamic capabilities theory. The influence on information system deployment is assessed by merging these factors into exogenous, intercompany climate, and operational dimensions. First, the results indicate that product-specific factors have a greater influence than the environment when deploying an IOIS. Second, deliberate design of IC relationships should be considered during the development of an IOIS. Third, extensive information exchange between supply chain partners might be disadvantageous for IOIS utilization. Fourth, the advantages of IOIS can be lost when completely open systems are used. Abstract: There has been an explosion in the popularity of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), drawing attention from practitioners and scholars alike since 2021. Each NFT denotes a digital asset in the likes of an artwork, a tweet, or a video that is recorded on the blockchain with a unique identifying code. In turn, the emergence of NFTs has transformed the digital asset landscape. With the rapid growth of the NFT market, there is a concern that the market is becoming increasingly homogenized due to readily available blockchain technologies and relatively low costs of NFT mints. To this end, this study attempts to elucidate how NFT portfolio homogenization affects transaction volume and variation in the marketplace. Particularly, we collected and analyzed a dataset of 2,004 collections comprising 7,151,515 NFTs from OpenSea, a leading NFT platform. We discovered significant inverted U-shaped relationships between NFT portfolio homogenization and transaction variation and transaction volume. Collapse

Abstract: Climate change and the fast-changing natural environment necessitate firms to adapt their way of doing business towards environmental sustainability. As information systems (IS) are seen as a potential lever to facilitate this adaptation successfully, this study focuses on the role of ISrelated human capital of top management team (TMT) members in facilitating green IS innovation activities in firms. Using a panel data set of firms listed in the S&P 500 index, this study finds that IS-related education and experience of TMT members are positively associated with green IS innovation activities. In addition, the results show that the presence of a CIO positively moderates the positive association of IS-related experience with green IS innovation activities. Consequently, this study contributes to the IS literature on the intersection of human capital theory from an upper echelon perspective and environmental sustainability. Collapse

Abstract: Vulnerability Discovery Models (VDMs) attempt to estimate the potential vulnerabilities present in a software that will be discovered after a software is released. A general framework is required to encompass all the attributes such as number of detectors, their skill, market share, etc. that impact the discovery of vulnerability. VDMs have been developed by various industry and researchers to assess the vulnerability trend over time. In this proposal, we try to formulate the discovery process based on the software reporters that are the legitimately working to fetch-out the vulnerabilities in a software. The available reporters present in the market impact the discovery process significantly as a vulnerability is more likely to be discovered if a greater number of users are working simultaneously. The interdisciplinary approach highlights the association of vulnerability discovery process and the number of reporters. To empirically validate the preposition, we consider three datasets and the proposed methodology perform significantly better as compared to the traditional VDMs. Collapse

Abstract: Despite growing engagements between firms and nonmarket stakeholders—such as local communities and nongovernmental organizations —research has yet to examine the emergence of formal contracts between them. Given that a very large number of such contracts are theoretically possible but only a small number exist, we seek to understand what factors explain the use of contracts to govern some relationships between firms and nonmarket stakeholders but not others. We draw on transaction cost economics to study transactions wherein a nonmarket stakeholder provides a firm access to a valuable resource and to understand when these transactions are governed by formal contracts. We propose that, when a firm makes site-specific investments, a stakeholder’s use rights to the resource sought by the firm, the negative externalities generated by its use, and the stakeholder’s capacity for collective mobilization increase holdup risk for the firm and therefore the probability of a contract. We collect novel data on the location of indigenous communities and mines in Canada to identify a plausible exhaustive set of indigenous communities “at risk” of signing a contract with a mining firm. We test our hypotheses by relying, respectively, on historically assigned property rights over lands, the mine-community colocation in a watershed and proximity on transportation routes, and archival records of community mobilization events. We find support for our propositions by examining which of the 5,342 dyads formed by 459 indigenous communities and 98 firms signed 259 contracts between 1999 and 2013. Collapse

Abstract: As a result of advances in data mining, more and more empirical studies in the social sciences apply classification algorithms to construct independent or dependent variables for further analysis via standard regression methods. In the classification phase of these studies, researchers need to subjectively choose a classification performance metric for optimization in the standard procedure. No matter which performance metric is chosen, the constructed variable still includes classification error because those variables cannot be classified perfectly. The misclassification of constructed variables will lead to inconsistent regression coefficient estimates in the following phase, which has been documented as a problem of measurement error in the econometrics literature. The pioneering discussions on the issue of estimation inconsistency because of misclassification in these studies have been provided. Our study attempts to investigate systematically the theoretical foundation of this problem when a newly constructed variable is used as the independent or dependent variable in linear and nonlinear regressions. Our theoretical analysis shows that consistent regression estimators can be recovered in all models studied in this paper. The main implication of our theoretical result is that researchers do not need to tune the classification algorithm to minimize the inconsistency of estimated regression coefficients because the inconsistency can be corrected by theoretical formulas, even when the classification accuracy is poor. Instead, we propose that a classification algorithm should be tuned to minimize the standard error of the focal regression coefficient derived based on the corrected formula. As a result, researchers can derive a consistent and most precise estimator in all models studied in this paper. Collapse

Abstract: Understanding how information systems (IS) architecture evolves and what outcomes can be expected from the evolution of IS architecture presents a considerable challenge for both research and practice. The evolution of IS architecture is marked by management's efforts to keep local and short-term IS investments in line with enterprise-wide and long-term objectives, so they often employ coercive mechanisms to enforce enterprise-wide considerations on local actors. However, an organization is shaped by a multitude of heterogeneous local actors' actions that pursue their own, sometimes conflicting, goals, norms, and values. This study offers a theory-informed simulation model that explores how IS architecture evolves and with what outcomes in various types of organizations. The simulation model is informed by institutional theory to capture various types of organizations that are characterized by different combinations of coercive, normative, and mimetic pressures, and by complex adaptive systems theory to capture the emergent character of IS architecture's evolution. First, we outline the insights from simulation experiments. Then, building on the simulation model and theoretical insights, we discuss implications for both research and practice. Collapse

Abstract: Cellular phones have gained popularity in emerging and developing economies over the last two decades. In this study, we show that the phenomenon of falling prices over time is applicable to the diffusion of prepaid mobile phones. This article extends the logistic diffusion model to accommodate disadopters of the service category. Goodness of fit of the extended model is found superior to the original version, which does not consider dis­ adoption. The empirical findings show that for the 12 countries considered in the analysis, the diffusion speeds and the disadoption rates are influenced by one marketing factor and three socioeconomic factors. Abstract: We propose in this work to use the utility theory to compute the optimal security investment over an investment horizon, considering the typologies and dynamic aspects of vulnerabilities related to the assets of a firm. A regression over a 17-year statistics available in the National Vulnerability Database is performed to predict and forecast the evolution of vulnerabilities’ rates over the investment horizon. Techniques and methodologies are proposed to compute and plan investment tranches over the whole time-horizon, while coping with budget constraints. An analysis is conducted to assess the variation of the optimal investments and the residual risk, taking into account the attitude of decision-makers towards risk. The obtained results show that : a) the optimal amount of investment in information security necessary to counter located attacks increases with the investment horizon for all types of vulnerabilities, but such an increase highly depends on the type of vulnerabilities affecting the firm; b) differently to located attacks, the optimal amount of investment in information security necessary to counter distributed attacks does not always increase with the investment horizon; and c) the optimal amount to invest in security, and the optimum value of the residual risk depend on the decision-maker attitude towards security risk. Abstract: We examine the impact of information system (IS) function maturity and IS planning process on IS planning success in an exploratory approach. We conducted non-linear regression analysis using the Alternating Conditional Expectations algorithm, and found significant non-linear relationships between the dimensions of IS function maturity/IS planning process and those of IS planning success. We also visualised how various IS planning success measures can evolve with low or high values of determinant variables. We used four dimensions of capabilities, analysis, cooperation, and alignment to evaluate IS planning success. We also employed four dimensions to analyse each of IS function maturity and IS planning process. IS function maturity consists of IT planning mode, IT integration, IT industry practice, and IT perspective. On the other hand, IS planning process is composed of long-range planning, medium-range managerial planning, short-range operational planning, and organisational IT potential. Collapse
