Abstract: Social commerce (s-commerce) has gained prominence with advances in social media and social networking technologies over the last decade. Prior research has employed diverse theoretical perspectives to understand and explain consumer behavior within s-commerce but has also produced inconsistent results. This study integrates different theoretical perspectives including trust, social support, and social presence. The research portrays an integrated research model involving factors that impact behavioral intention and use behavior of s-commerce consumers whilst synthesizing prior empirical findings. A meta-analytic structural equation modeling (MASEM) method was used to synthesize 189 findings reported in 68 s-commerce studies and to analyze the structural model. Our findings show that trust and informational support have positive effects on behavioral intention while trust and emotional support have positive effects on use behavior. Furthermore, our findings highlight that behavioral intention influences use behavior and mediates the effect of trust and informational support on use behavior. The implications for research and practice are discussed in detail. Collapse

Abstract: Digital business models (DBMs) are built on digital technologies with complexity-inducing characteristics. Thus, they form ever-more complex (eco)systems as they connect heterogeneous actors for value cocreation and blur the boundaries of organizations, markets, and industries. The co-existence of actors' multiple logics in pluralistic settings has been associated with tensions and controversies. However, information systems (IS) research has ignored controversies' role in DBMs in settings of logic multiplicity. Drawing on the 'orders of worth' framework, we follow the controversies over DBMs in the academic publishing ecosystem. Building on our in-depth case study data, we develop a model highlighting three roots of controversies in sociotechnical DBMs. We add to the literature by furthering our understanding of controversies' role in DBMs and enriching the community's methodological toolbox in applying a theory from French pragmatic sociology to study pluralistic contexts. Abstract: With the unparallel advance of leading-edge technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), the healthcare systems are transforming and shifting for more digital health. In recent years, scientific productions have reached unprecedented levels. However, a holistic view of how AI is being used for digital health remains scarce. Besides, there is a considerable lack of studies on responsible AI and ethical issues that identify and suggest practitioners’ essential insights towards the digital health domain. Therefore, we aim to rely on a bibliometric approach to explore the dynamics of the interplay between AI and digital health approaches, considering the responsible AI and ethical aspects of scientific production over the years. We found four distinct periods in the publication dynamics and the most popular approaches of AI in the healthcare field. Also, we highlighted the main trends and insightful directions for scholars and practitioners. In terms of contributions, this work provides a framework integrating AI technologies approaches and applications while discussing several barriers and benefits of AI-based health. In addition, five insightful propositions emerged as a result of the main findings. Thus, this study’s originality is regarding the new framework and the propositions considering responsible AI and ethical issues on digital health. Collapse

Abstract: The internet has created new markets and enabled alternative business models for criminal activity, such as human trafficking. Consequently, research is needed to understand the complexity, occurrence, and impact of internet-enabled crime on victims and society. Many scholars have called for interdisciplinary approaches to study and develop interventions to address a broad range of cybercrimes, but this call is challenging to implement. Therefore, we provide a confessional account of our experience associated with developing an interdisciplinary research team and conducting research related to a specific form of cybercrime, predatory crime involving deceptive or covert solicitations. Our confessional account allows us to reflect on our project and discuss the challenges we have encountered along with a discussion of how we have addressed these challenges. We offer guidance to researchers in various stages of conducting interdisciplinary research based on our experiences with a specific form of cybercrime, internet-enabled crime. Collapse

Abstract: Despite the consensus that considering social factors is as important as economic and environmental dimensions for long-term successful, sustainable energy development projects, there is a lack of quantifiable assessments in multi-energy simulation decision support systems. Therefore, we applied a design science research approach to develop an energy system simulator that includes all three dimensions of sustainability. Based on a rigorous literature review and expert interviews, we establish a framework for assessing social sustainability. We then implement the derived criteria and indicators in the open-access software NESSI and validate it in an applicability check for a Madagasi neighborhood. With our framework, we aim to provide guidance to researchers and stakeholders on incorporating the social sustainability dimension into their approaches, tools, and decision-making process. The user-friendly, web-based simulation software enables various stakeholders to explore the interrelationships of threefold sustainability in specific energy systems. Abstract: Manually analyzing large collections of research articles is a time-and resource-intensive activity, making it difficult to stay on top of the latest research findings. Limitations of automated solutions lie in limited domain knowledge and not being able to attribute extracted key terms to a focal article, related work, or background information. We aim to address this challenge by (1) developing a framework for classifying sentences in scientific publications, (2) performing several experiments comparing state-of-the-art sentence transformer algorithms with a novel few-shot learning technique and (3) automatically analyzing a corpus of articles and evaluating automated knowledge extraction capabilities. We tested our approach for combining sentence classification with ontological annotations on a manually created dataset of 1,000 sentences from Information Systems (IS) articles. The results indicate a high degree of accuracy underlining the potential for novel approaches in analyzing scientific publications. Collapse

Abstract: This study focuses on how collaborative organizing is achieved in a natural-resource commons, organized as an actor-oriented structure. In a framed field experiment, teams of Maasai livestock owners played a board game related to sustainable usage and preservation of a commons (in this case, grazing areas). We examine team decisions over time and draw inferences about the difference between two information infrastructures: one that enables learning about the ecosystem and one that enables shared situational awareness. We also examine the effectiveness of these information infrastructures in obtaining sustainable usage and preservation of a commons, finding that participants who are subjected to an information infrastructure that enables shared situational awareness are more effective than those subjected to an information infrastructure that only enables learning about the ecosystem. This, we argue, is because shared situational awareness enables members to address their interdependencies related to both task and knowledge interdependence. In other words, without shared situational awareness, they are less efficient at coordinating their actions, despite sharing collaborative values. Based on our findings, we argue that actor-oriented structures should be designed to include information infrastructures that specifically address members’ interdependencies. Abstract: The enactment of the revised Payment Services Directive (PSD2) by the European Union, has pushed banks to develop digital open banking platforms to enhance market competition and promote innovation in the banking industry. PSD2 mandates banks to offer APIs to provide access to banking data to external third-party providers (TPPs). This mandate might disrupt the role of banks since external complementors such as fintechs have the legal right to access and leverage banking data to offer innovative banking services. As such, the emergence of regulated open banking platforms engenders complex interdependent relationships between banks and fintechs. Drawing on a case of an open banking platform by Nordea Bank, we aim to examine these interdependencies with emphasis on the engagement between banks and external complementors in a regulated platform context. Abstract: In a thought-provoking paper published in EJIS more than a decade ago, Lyytinen and colleagues asked the question, why does the “old world” perform poorly in high academic impact publishing? This triggered a lively debate on the epistemological and methodological traditions, preferences, and research practices of Europeans versus North Americans that has lasted until today. Is it still true, we asked ourselves, that European scholars generate less academic impact than their North American colleagues? Is the European research context indeed disadvantageous for developing high academic impact research? In this paper, we set out to explore these questions by analysing the Google Scholar profiles of 1713 IS researchers from all over the world. Our findings show that Northern and Western European scholars no longer seem to differ significantly from their North American peers, even though the different research contexts still exercise a certain level of influence. However, is this a development the “old world” desires? We provide an assessment and some suggestions for the future of European IS research. Collapse

Abstract: The failure rate of fintech platforms is disproportionately high, which may be because (1) there is a lack of published knowledge on the appropriate strategies to adopt and/or (2) the traditional prescriptions for strategy may be less relevant in the context of fintech platforms. To ascertain either or both of these possibilities, we conducted a comprehensive review of the fintech literature and found that not only is there a relative paucity of research on Fintech Strategies, but there are also important limitations associated with the existing works. To address these limitations, we first identified the unique characteristics of fintech platforms and the strategic implications of those characteristics. Next, we adapted a framework made up of six conventional core logics of strategy and juxtaposed the prescriptions of those logics with the unique characteristics identified. Finally, we constructed a research agenda consisting of a number of open questions based on our analysis to provide directions for future research in this area. The agenda suggests that fintech platform strategies have to account for competing institutional logics stemming from the platforms' dual identity and the tensions between conforming for legitimacy and differentiating for competitive advantage. There is also a need to account for an exceptionally dynamic and unpredictable regulatory landscape, as well as the responses and competitive actions of influential market incumbents. Collapse
